CTR Decrypted v1.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Decryptu Decryptu released this 02 Nov 20:47

CTR Decrypted v1.4.0 adds a 200cc speed class, Roo on the title screen, colour filters, and fixes for far scenery, the sky and 60 FPS physics.

Download: ctr-decrypted-v1.4.0-windows-x86.zip on Windows, ctr-decrypted-v1.4.0-linux-x86.tar.gz on Linux and Steam Deck. From v1.3.0, the main menu offers this update by itself. Setup guide: ap-pie.com, or SETUP.md (as shipped). Project site: decryptu.github.io/ctr-decrypted, with a YAML builder for this release's world.

New

  • 200cc in Arcade and VS. After the difficulty (Arcade) or the player count (VS), a new SPEED screen offers CLASSIC or 200CC. At 200cc every racer, bots included, is about 20% faster, with quicker acceleration, bigger boosts and slightly sharper steering. The game remembers your pick. Adventure, Time Trial and Battle stay at the normal speed.
  • Title screen: Roo dances in Crash's place, with DECRYPTED under the CTR logo.
  • Colour Filter (OPTIONS → Extras): Greyscale, Sepia, Negative, Vignette, and corrections for protanopia and deuteranopia. It combines with every screen filter.
  • LCD screen filter, next to Sharp Bilinear, FXAA, Scanlines and CRT.
  • F7 captures go to their own folder each time, with a savestate and your position, so a bug report can show exactly where it happened.

Fixed

  • With widescreen, the far camera or increased draw distance, far road, sky and scenery could vanish and come back a moment later (Hot Air Skyway), and split screen could lose the floor under a kart.
  • A corner of the sky could show a flat-coloured patch from the far camera or in widescreen.
  • Distant karts lost their wheels. Increased draw distance now pushes every limit out together.
  • At 60 FPS, karts lost speed faster in the air and downhill than at 30 FPS, and jump arcs differed. Both now match the original.
  • Tires, shadows, skid marks, particles and warp-pad numbers jittered by a pixel with PGXP on.

Updating

  • From v1.3.0, accept the update offer in the main menu. From v1.2.0 or older, download this release by hand once.
  • Use the ctr.apworld from this release to generate seeds. Seeds made with v1.3.0 still work.
  • Your saves and settings carry over.

Reporting a problem

Bugs, crashes and stuck seeds go to the issue tracker. Run support-bundle.bat (Windows) or ./support-bundle.sh (Linux and Steam Deck) next to the executable and attach the archive it creates, with your version, platform, and seed or YAML. For questions, use the Crash Team Racing channel on the Archipelago Discord.

v1.3.0

@Decryptu Decryptu released this 02 Nov 11:03

CTR Decrypted v1.3.0 updates itself from now on, guides your first launch, keeps backups of your saves, and is ready for the Steam Deck.

Download: ctr-decrypted-v1.3.0-windows-x86.zip on Windows, ctr-decrypted-v1.3.0-linux-x86.tar.gz on Linux and Steam Deck. Setup guide: ap-pie.com, or SETUP.md (as shipped).

New

  • In-game updates. When a newer release is out, the main menu offers it; accepting downloads it, checks its signature, installs it and restarts the game. Your settings, saves and solo seeds stay. Turn it off with update_check in config.ini.
  • First-launch setup. With no disc image in place, the game looks for yours in the game folder, the folder above it, and Downloads, Desktop, Documents and Games, and asks before using it (or opens a file picker). Then a short guided screen sets up your Archipelago room and a few options. It never opens if you already have a room saved.
  • Save backups (OPTIONS → Backups). The game keeps the last 10 copies of your save and of every Play Solo seed's progress: one at each start, and one every 15 minutes while you play. Pick one to restore it; the game restarts to load it. The save is now also written safely, so a crash while saving keeps the previous one whole.
  • Steam Deck. The first launch on a Deck is fullscreen at 16:10, the Deck's screen, with no mouse cursor in Game Mode. The built-in controls work as a controller and the Steam keyboard comes up for text fields. Install steps are in SETUP.md. This is the first release meant for the Deck; tell us how it runs.
  • Mods screen: the tabs are now Tracks, Racers and Installed, each in its own box. A racer's portrait shows before you install it, and Installed lists your racers too.
  • Discord status shows "Playing CTR Decrypted" with its own logo.

Fixed

  • Custom racers were smaller on the character select than in a race, with the kart floating between the wheels.
  • In Time Trial, a custom racer raced as the character it is built on.
  • With a custom racer in the race, the HUD and the loading flag flickered.
  • On wide screens the four start lights had gaps between them.
  • The racers catalogue listed some characters twice (Bowser, Crunch Bandicoot, Rilla Roo, N. Brio); each now appears once, the better-made version. Coco is now named COCO (ABOUT TIME), after the mod it comes from.
  • Stopping a Play Solo session could leave DeathLink off for the next room.

Updating

  • From v1.2.0 or older, download this release by hand once: older builds check another repository for updates and never see ours. From v1.3.0 on, the game offers each new release itself.
  • Use the ctr.apworld from this release to generate seeds. Seeds made with v1.2.0 still work.
  • Your saves and settings carry over: copy them next to the new ctr_native_ap.exe as usual.

CTR Decrypted v1.2.0

@Decryptu Decryptu released this 02 Nov 05:26
b4d761f

CTR Decrypted v1.2.0 adds custom racers, track pictures in the Mods screen, and an Archipelago prompt for a room's missing tracks.

New

  • Custom racers. The character select now has pages, so it can hold more racers than the original 16. A custom racer races with its own model, wheels, engine class and HUD portrait.
  • Racers tab in the Mods screen (title screen → MODS, then R1). It lists a catalogue of 37 racers converted from community mods, each credited to its author. Install one with a button.
  • Track pictures: Browse and Installed show each track's Project Saphi picture next to its title. A picture is kept after it loads once, so it also shows offline.
  • Missing tracks prompt: when you connect to a room that needs custom tracks you don't have, the game says how many are missing and offers to install them. Triangle skips it until the next room.
  • Steering (Options → Controls): the new Modern setting gives full lock on a stick pushed hard at any angle within about 45 degrees of horizontal. Original, the default, keeps the game's own curve.

Fixed

  • The cave between N. Sanity Beach and Gemstone Valley showed black shapes on its walls with PGXP on TEXTURES or FULL.
  • About one seed in 5,000 failed to generate solo with "No more spots to place items". The generator now tries another order instead.
  • Long controller names such as "Nintendo Switch Pro Controller" no longer overlap their label, and the device picker no longer shows the rows under it.
  • The Vanilla and Custom page titles in track select have proper arrows on both sides.

Updating

  • Use the ctr.apworld from this release to generate seeds. Seeds made with v1.1.0 still work.
  • Your saves and settings carry over: copy them next to the new ctr_native_ap.exe as usual.

CTR Decrypted v1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Decryptu Decryptu released this 01 Nov 17:46

CTR Decrypted v1.1.0 brings the Archipelago work dowlle has been building for 0.3.0, a Mods screen for custom tracks, and a lot of fixes.

New

  • Play Solo (title screen → PLAY SOLO): play the randomizer alone without installing Archipelago. Pick a preset (Quick, Standard or Full Adventure) or your own YAML, and the game generates the seed and hosts the room itself.
  • Mods screen (title screen → MODS). Browse Project Saphi's custom tracks and install one with a button. Under Installed, turn a track off, remove it or check its files. In a room that uses custom tracks, the Seed tab shows what the room needs and installs what is missing.
  • Custom tracks in Arcade and Time Trial in the Archipelago client: installed tracks appear on extra pages after the normal ones (when you are not connected to a room).
  • Starting Roster (new YAML option, on by default): Adventure starts with the 8 original racers, picked with the original character select. Only the other 8 racers are items.
  • The 0.3.0 Archipelago features from dowlle's unreleased line: custom tracks on warp pads, the Wumpa Shop, boss and pad randomization options, lap checks, and more. See the option guide in the YAML template.
  • The game is called CTR Decrypted everywhere: window title, title screen and the downloads.
  • The game has its own icon.

Fixed

  • PLAY SOLO on the title screen did nothing (and was labelled WUMPA SHOP).
  • The title menu ran off the screen with the Scrapbook unlocked.
  • The hub pause menu named pads after their original track; in a shuffled seed it now shows where each pad leads and that pad's own trophy, relic and token.
  • The camera: smoother and steadier, with no wobble when the kart speeds up or slows down; the sky and the level no longer jitter.
  • Some option sets (fixed gems, for example) failed to generate about one seed in 200 with "No more spots to place ... items". The generator now plans the whole opening and redraws a plan that does not fit.
  • The game remembers the L2 camera distance and the Triangle map/speedometer choice.

Known issues

  • With some option sets, a seed can still fail to generate with "No more spots to place ... items" (seen once in 500 seeds with shuffled warp pads). Generate again; another seed works.

Updating

  • Use the ctr.apworld from this release to generate seeds. Seeds made with the v1.0.0 apworld still work.
  • Your saves and settings carry over: copy them next to the new ctr_native_ap.exe as usual.

  • 60 FPS in every mode, on by default.
  • PGXP anti-wobble and perspective-correct textures, with a depth test that fixes the original's level sorting errors.
  • Screen filters: Sharp Bilinear, FXAA, Scanlines, CRT.
  • Extras: reserves meter, kept reserve fire, blue fire at Ultimate Speed Fire, slide meter gradient, cyan super pads.
  • Playable N. Oxide, unlocked by beating him in Adventure.

  • Built on the latest CTR-native decompilation, with its fixes to bots, weapons, menus, audio and loading.

Downloads

  • ctr-archipelago-v1.0.0-windows-x86.zip and ctr-archipelago-v1.0.0-linux-x86.tar.gz: the game. Extract, put your disc image in assets/, run.
  • ctr.apworld and Crash.Team.Racing.yaml: for whoever generates the multiworld, and the players' options template.
  • *-box-authoring-*: a separate build for placing item boxes on tracks, not for playing.
  • *.debug: debug symbols, to turn a crash report into a readable stack trace.
  • manifest.json and manifest.json.minisig: the signed checksums of the two game downloads. Check them with minisign -Vm manifest.json -P RWT7UfQHfRUpLC61tcAYdT0TiObrV6ahvUjDb6znPuexIDd7wu9h2i+j, then compare each archive's SHA-256 with the manifest.
