Edge-Drop v0.3.0 introduces smarter multi-monitor edge detection, cleaner drag-and-drop integrity, larger file stack previews with animated GIF support, hardware-accelerated animations, and enhanced Windows integration reliability.

Smarter Multi-Monitor Edge Opening

  • Rest-as-Intent Seam Policy: Moving your cursor between displays is now fluid and natural. Edge-Drop distinguishes when you are crossing over to an adjacent monitor versus intentionally stopping at the edge to open your shelf, preventing accidental activations on interior display boundaries.
  • Deterministic Multi-Display Geometry: Geometric screen calculations are cached and versioned, eliminating edge jitter across mixed-DPI monitor configurations.

Refined Drag and Drop Lifecycle

  • Clean Return-to-Shelf: Dragging an item out and dropping it back onto the shelf is now a safe return-to-shelf operation without duplicating files, splitting card stacks, or incrementing usage counts.
  • Click vs. Drag Discrimination: Pointer movements are now differentiated with a movement threshold, ensuring drag attempts on text and link cards never dispatch accidental click-to-paste actions.
  • External Usage Accounting: Usage counters (hitCount) and top-of-shelf reordering now update exclusively when an item is dropped into an external application (such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, Discord, or File Explorer).

Richer File Stack Previews & Animated GIFs

  • 20% Larger Preview Tiles: Collapsed file stacks now display 154px preview cards with unified folder-silhouette masks and category-specific pastel vector badges.
  • Animated GIF Playback: Stack preview tiles now support animated playback for GIF files.
  • Fluid Stack Folding: Expanding and collapsing bundles is seamless—clicking anywhere outside an open stack neatly folds it back into place without layout shifting.

Hardware-Accelerated Motion & Virtualized Scrolling

  • Compositor-Only Transitions: Card pinning, unpinning, and category tab switching run entirely on GPU transforms (transform and opacity), eliminating layout reflows during rapid interactions.
  • Smooth History Scrolling: Implemented list virtualization with content-visibility: auto, ensuring a steady 60 FPS scroll performance even across large history databases.

Original File & Image Name Preservation

  • Consistent File Naming: Images and files captured or dropped into Edge-Drop retain their original source filenames throughout drag-and-drop operations, image previews, and disk exports.

Startup and Update Reliability

  • Persistent Launch at Login: Windows Registry startup configuration is automatically synchronized with live binary paths, ensuring your Launch at Login preference persists across automatic updates.

Installation & Upgrades

Windows Package Installer (GitHub Release)

  1. Download Edge-Drop-Setup-0.3.0.exe from the Assets section below.
  2. Run the installer. If you are updating from an existing version, your preferences, pinned items, and history will be automatically preserved.
  3. Edge-Drop will launch minimized to the tray. Move your cursor to the designated screen edge (or press Alt+C) to open your shelf.

Microsoft Store Version

Users running the Microsoft Store package will receive this update automatically via Windows Store background updates.
