Lacquer 1.0.1

@Deunnis Deunnis released this 27 Sep 13:26

Fixes from the r/omarchy thread on 1.0.

Descriptions no longer wait for a hover. Resting on a setting opened its
description and pushed everything below it down, so scrolling with a mouse
re-flowed the page under your own cursor. Three people reported it and one
rolled back to the beta. They are simply there again, as they were in 0.3.0:
nothing opens, nothing moves.

  • The wheel no longer changes values when you scroll past a slider. Plain
wheel scrolls the page; Ctrl+wheel still steps.
  • The window can be resized by the grip in its bottom-right corner, and the
    size is remembered.
  • The tab marker is an underline again rather than a half-drawn brush stroke.
  • The Windows tab is no longer a telephone (U+F118F is
md-phone_bluetooth_outline in the installed Nerd Font).
  • The paper grain is lighter and even; the key hints read "key – what it
does" and say "section" rather than "page".
  • Per-app rules can pin an app to a screen, for a game on the big monitor.
  • The ink drop on the rail falls down the left edge instead of over the labels.

Not fixed, and why: Super+W will not close Lacquer. Hyprland binds it
globally, so the compositor consumes the key before any client sees it. A bar
button is not here either: Omarchy's registry gives a plugin one place, either
shell.json's plugin list or the bar layout, so a plugin that is already a
panel cannot also take a slot on the bar. It needs its own plugin id.

The three-and-a-half minute tour on the 1.0 release
is still current.

One app for how your Omarchy desktop looks.

Watch the tour — the lacquer-1.0.mp4 asset below is a three-and-a-half
minute walk through every page, recorded in one take on an empty desktop.

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/Deunnis/omarchy-lacquer --enable

What is new since the beta

  • Saved looks — name a whole set of settings (theme, windows, bar, fonts,
pointer, text rendering) and put it back whenever you like. One file carries
    them to another machine.
  • A tour — seven notes on first run, each pinned over the thing it explains.
It lives behind the lamp in the header afterwards.
  • How text is drawn — smoothing, hinting and subpixel order, in a file
Lacquer owns, so your fonts.conf is never touched.
  • Mouse pointer its own page — style, size, and what the pointer does while
    you type or switch desktop.
  • Paint the desktop in your theme's colour — what shows where there is no
window, following every theme change with Lacquer closed.
  • A readability check when you build a theme from a wallpaper, so you find
out before you live in it.
  • A new look for the app itself — ink on paper: hairline rules, two inks,
a serif for names and a typewriter mark.

Under it

Every setting round-trips: set it, unset it, and the config file is
byte-for-byte what it was. Nothing is sent anywhere; there is no telemetry and
no network call. lacquer-cleanup takes every trace back out.

MIT. Built on Omarchy 4.

Omarchy Lacquer 0.3.0 (beta)

@Deunnis Deunnis released this 14 Sep 17:38

First public beta of Omarchy Lacquer: one app for how your Omarchy desktop looks.

Themes and wallpapers, theme shuffle and aether palettes; fonts, text size, GTK and icons, cursor and nightlight; gaps, borders, blur, animations and a bezier curve editor; shell style, bar and menu look; lock, boot and screensaver; terminal padding and opacity, btop and the prompt; and the settings of every installed plugin. Everything applies live, with undo, and it opens on a Home screen with a live miniature of your desktop and search across about 310 settings.

Install

omarchy plugin add https://github.com/Deunnis/omarchy-lacquer --enable

Open Omarchy Lacquer from the app launcher (Super + Space).

Before you rely on it

  • The first time it opens, Lacquer copies looknfeel.lua, shell.toml and shell.json to *.lacquer-backup-<time>. Opening it changes nothing else; only changes you make are written.
  • lacquer-cleanup shows what Lacquer changed, and lacquer-cleanup --yes undoes it (see Remove in the README).
  • The theme shuffle is off until you turn it on. Coming from Omaland or OmaShuffle, nothing is imported or removed unless you ask.

Tested

  • Fresh Omarchy 4.0.3 in a VM, installed straight from this repository: 26 of 26 checks passed (install, first open, all 21 sections in a dark and a light theme, settings round-trips, a pinned icon theme across a theme switch, clean shell log, cleanup and removal restoring every config file and GTK setting).
  • Daily use on a Ryzen 5 4500U laptop (1080p, one screen, foot).

Not tested yet: reports welcome

Several screens, screen scaling, HiDPI panels, kitty/ghostty/alacritty as the main terminal, and nightlight on hardware other than the author's. If something breaks or looks wrong, open an issue and paste the output of ~/.config/omarchy/plugins/io.github.deunnis.lacquer/lacquer-report.

Optional companions

lock-explorer adds the Lock & boot controls; OmaMenu with its Menu Look IPC adds Menu look.
