Question about the behavior of the Delete button during an active audio recording (dictation) #197

I have a question regarding the behavior of the app when pressing the "Delete" button while an audio message is being recorded. Particularly with regard to future features and the storage of conversation history, I am asking the following: Is the audio recording actually deleted immediately and permanently by clicking Delete? Or does the recording remain stored so that one could later generate a transcript from it via the "Repeat" button? Personally, a genuine and complete deletion of the audio file would be very important to me. My preferred workflow is for Dictate to begin recording immediately, but I want to avoid the privacy issue where unwanted voice recordings are saved somewhere due to accidental activations. Furthermore, this would prevent the history from being unnecessarily cluttered with unused data junk—for example, if the app was activated before anything relevant was actually said, making speech recognition unhelpful at that point anyway. Therefore, my specific question is: what is the current or planned future status regarding this? Does pressing the Delete button ultimately mean the immediate removal of the recording, and how exactly does it interact with the "Repeat" button (is the last message sent there instead, or does the previously deleted audio recording still remain as a basis)? |

Hey, that’s actually a good question. Recordings are only saved in the history once you press Send, or after they’ve been transcribed. If an error occurs during transcription, the recordings are still saved, provided you’ve enabled that in the settings, so you can transcribe them again later. But if you record something and press the delete button while recording, then no recording is saved. :) |
