A song browser for YARG, served to the phones at your party.

Run it on the machine hosting the game and your library shows up on any phone on
the network — sortable, filterable, searchable, with album art, 30-second
previews, and whatever is playing right now. It reads YARG's own files and never
writes to them, so a scan in YARG reaches every connected phone in about half a
second. There is nothing to export and nothing to keep in sync.

Try the demo first → — the real app with a
made-up library, no install required.

Downloads

File Platform
YASS-1.0.0.exe Windows — portable, ~91 MB
YASS-1.0.0-x86_64.AppImage Linux x86_64 — ~128 MB

One file either way: nothing to install, nothing left behind but a settings file
and a cache directory it can rebuild. Both put YASS in the notification area with
a QR code to hand guests, settings behind native file pickers, and the server
running underneath.

You need a YARG install that has scanned at least once. If YARG is not in the
default location, point YASS_YARG_DATA_DIR at the folder holding
currentSong.json and songcache.bin — usually it is found for you.

On Windows, the build is unsigned, so SmartScreen warns on first run.

On Linux, chmod +x the AppImage and run it. Two things differ:

  • AppImages mount themselves with FUSE, which Ubuntu 24.04 and up no longer ship.
Install libfuse2, or run it with --appimage-extract-and-run.
  • ffmpeg — which album art and previews need — is not fetched for you, because the
build YASS pins is a Windows one. apt install ffmpeg (or your distro's
equivalent, or YASS_FFMPEG=/path/to/ffmpeg) and restart. Without it the song
list works and the art stays dark.

What is in it

  • The library comes from songcache.bin, the index YARG writes when it scans.
Nothing is filtered out, including songs above YARG's Max Song Rating.
  • Album art and previews are read straight out of the charts — SNG, .yargsong
    and CON all work.
  • Genres are normalized the way YARG normalizes them, using the same
    Genrelizer mappings the game
downloads, so Alt Rock and Alternative Rock stop being separate filters.
  • The banner can pick up YARG's stage lighting. Turn on Settings →
Experimental → Other → Enable UDP data stream
    and the now-playing banner tints
to match the venue. Nothing flashes, and it is off under
    prefers-reduced-motion.

Public domain, under the Unlicense
— but read
THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md
before shipping anything commercial: the fonts, the source badges, YARG's design
tokens and a genre normaliser ported from LGPL-3.0 source travel with it and carry
their own terms.

YASS is unofficial and unaffiliated with YARC, Harmonix, Activision or Epic Games.
