Game Optimization Linux 1.8.0 Alpha is a smaller follow-up release to 1.7, focused on improving the user experience, subtitle selection, Couch Mode, OptiScaler, and the overall interface.

This is not a massive feature release, but it includes a number of useful changes and lays some groundwork for features planned for future versions.

🎙️ AI Game Narrator

The narrator received another round of improvements, especially around selecting the subtitle area on the screen.

Graphical subtitle area selection

You can now select the subtitle area directly from a captured game image.

The selected region is now also displayed visually in the narrator settings, making it much easier to understand exactly which part of the game screen will be sent to OCR.

Improvements include:

  • Graphical subtitle-region selection
  • Visual preview of the selected OCR area
  • Better connection between the graphical selector and the narrator runtime
  • Improved subtitle-region saving and lifecycle handling
  • The selected normalized region is used consistently by the narrator

This should make configuring the narrator much easier than manually entering coordinates.

Narrator pipeline improvements

Additional internal improvements were made to subtitle processing, OCR filtering, duplicate handling, and replay/regression coverage.

However, dialogue repetition is not fully solved yet. Some OCR variants of the same subtitle can still be spoken more than once. The narrator remains an actively developed feature.

🛋️ Couch Mode

Couch Mode received another round of UI and usability improvements.

The goal is to make GameOpti more comfortable to use from a TV or controller-friendly setup, with a more console-like presentation.

This release includes:

  • UI adjustments and refinements
  • Improved visual consistency
  • Small usability improvements
  • Additional work toward a more console-style interface

Couch Mode is still being actively redesigned and is not yet at the final design direction planned for future releases.

🚀 OptiScaler

The OptiScaler workflow received a visual and usability update.

The downloader/installer interface has been improved and now provides a cleaner way to work with different OptiScaler builds.

Added / improved:

  • Cleaner OptiScaler download UI
  • Better presentation of available versions
  • Support for Nightly builds
  • Experimental Nightly version handling
  • OptiPatcher support in the OptiScaler workflow
  • Improved icons and interface presentation

OptiScaler remains one of the main graphics-related workflows in GameOpti and will continue to receive improvements.

🧩 DLSS Enabler

DLSS Enabler is now represented in the GameOpti interface and the UI groundwork is already present.

The actual backend/integration is not included yet.

It is planned for a later update rather than being shipped as an unfinished feature in this release.

💖 Donate / Support GameOpti

A new Donate section has been added to the main GameOpti navigation.

GameOpti is developed as a passion project focused on Linux gaming and game optimization.

Development also requires tools, services, testing resources, and other expenses. If GameOpti is useful to you and you would like to support its continued development, you can now do so directly from the application.

Available options:

  • Buy Me a Coffee
  • PayPal

Donations are completely optional and GameOpti remains a free project.

🎨 UI & Visual Improvements

A number of smaller visual improvements were made across the application.

This includes:

  • Improved icons
  • Refined interface elements
  • Better visual consistency
  • UI cleanup
  • Small spacing and presentation improvements
  • More polished OptiScaler screens
  • New Donate page

Some of the current icons and graphics are still temporary/simple assets. More polished artwork and iconography are planned for future releases as the project continues to grow.

🧹 Graphics Remaster

The Graphics Remaster section has temporarily been removed from the main interface.

The feature is still planned, but keeping a dedicated tab for a future system that is not yet implemented did not make much sense.

The Graphics Remaster system will return when the actual functionality is ready.

🧪 What is NOT finished yet

Game Optimization Linux is still in Alpha, and several planned features are not ready yet.

Not finished in 1.8.0:

  • Full narrator duplicate-dialogue prevention
  • Final Couch Mode redesign
  • DLSS Enabler backend/integration
  • Graphics Remaster functionality
  • Additional new icon artwork
  • Various smaller UI and runtime issues

Some existing edge cases may still occur depending on the game, subtitle font, OCR quality, capture environment, or desktop setup.

🐛 Fixes & Stability

This release also contains a collection of smaller fixes and internal improvements.

Among them:

  • Improved narrator regression coverage
  • Improved OCR-related handling
  • Improved subtitle-region state handling
  • UI stability improvements
  • Various small fixes and cleanup
  • Additional test coverage for newly changed functionality

There are still known issues, and this release should be considered experimental software.

🔮 What's next?

Development will continue in several areas:

  • Better narrator accuracy and duplicate prevention
  • Further Couch Mode redesign
  • DLSS Enabler integration
  • Graphics Remaster
  • More advanced game optimization
  • Better graphics and UI assets
  • Continued performance and stability improvements

GameOpti is still evolving, and some features may change significantly before reaching a stable release.

⚠️ Alpha Release

This is an Alpha release.

Some features are experimental, incomplete, or may behave differently between games and Linux configurations.

If you encounter a problem, please report it with as much information as possible, including your game, Linux distribution, GPU, driver, and relevant GameOpti diagnostics.
