v0.3.7 — No More Flashes
- Fixed: the screen no longer goes black (turning off and back on) when you log in or log out. The login screen now uses the same monitor setup as your desktop.
- Fixed: the login screen wallpaper now follows your display scaling. Change the scale, click Keep Changes, and the login screen matches.
- Fixed: no more strip of misaligned blur on the top bar after logging in or plugging in a monitor, and no flash when it corrects itself.
- Removed: the "Rebuild the panel blur after a monitor change" setting. It's no longer needed, and updating removes the old service automatically.
- Upgrading from an older version: run one full install so the login screen picks up your current monitor layout.
v0.3.6 — Glass Styles and a New Updates Page
✨ What's New in v0.3.6
🔄 Updates
• Updating just works: Install no longer greys out or stops at a git error. Local edits are stashed, your own commits are kept on a backup branch, and the checkout is moved straight to the version you pick.
• Releases and tags in one list: every commit on main is a tag named after the release before it (v0.3.5+25), shown beside the releases, newest first by date.
• Click to read what changed: each version opens into a short changelog grouped as New, Fixed and Other, or its release notes.
• One button: only the newest version has Install, so there is never a question of which one to pick.
• Every commit reaches you: Check now offers the newest tag as soon as it lands on main, not only tagged releases.
🛠️ Maintenance
• A tab of its own: the daily check and the repair buttons sit in a Maintenance tab inside Updates.
• Reset theme to defaults: forgets every choice, reinstalls everything and opens the setup wizard. Your old choices are kept in backups/, and cancelling the wizard puts them back.
🧊 Glass styles
• Liquid, Vibrant, Tinted and Smoked: new glass styles for the top bar, the dock and the overview, with Liquid and Vibrant also offered behind app windows.
• Fullscreen without blur: window blur drops on fullscreen windows, with a switch in settings to keep it.
🧩 Extensions
• Wiggly recommended: added on update and pointed at the cursor theme.
🐛 Fixes
• Preview keeps the overview blur after a preview is reverted.
• Wallpaper list written atomically, so GNOME Settings never reads it half-written.
Update from the Updates page in the settings app, or run ./install.sh in your checkout.
v0.3.5 — Hex & Sticky Edition
✨ What's New in v0.3.5
🐾 Wallpapers
• Meet Hex & Sticky: five wallpapers starring a tabby and a tuxedo cat on swirling glass, in Magenta Teal, Cyan Crimson, Emerald Gold, Rust Teal and Indigo Magenta.
• Sharp on big screens: 6880×2880, so they stay crisp when GNOME crops them to a 4K 16:9 panel.
• In GNOME's own picker: find them in Settings › Appearance › Background. They are offered, never set, so your current wallpaper stays put.
• Clean uninstall: uninstall.sh removes them with the rest of the theme.
📖 README
• Screenshots: the README now opens with a looping showcase and full-size screenshots.
Update with ./install.sh --settings-only -y or press Apply in the settings app.
v0.3.4 — Login Wallpaper, Screenshot Blur and Steady Services
✨ What's New in v0.3.4
🔐 Login screen
• Wallpaper per monitor: the GDM wallpaper is now laid out on each monitor instead of stretched across the whole stage.
• Know when an update undoes the theme: if a package update replaces the login theme, you get a notification at login telling you to run install.sh --gdm.
🪟 Window blur
• Screenshots match the screen: with rounded blur on a mixed-scale setup, the blur behind a window no longer samples the wrong part of the desktop in screenshots. gnome-rounded-blur is patched for this. On Arch it builds as its own pacman package, so the next full install asks for sudo once.
• Fewer rebuilds: editing the app list or scope now rechecks windows instead of rebuilding every blur pipeline, and window tracking frees everything it holds on disable.
• Rounded blur on every distro: the installer offers the build dependencies on Fedora, openSUSE and Debian, and the library check now finds it outside Arch's paths, so a working install no longer rebuilds on every run.
⚙️ Services
• No more crash loops: the panel blur worker waits for a running theme operation instead of failing and restarting, a second adaptive worker exits at once, and the GDM sync cleans up after itself and syncs once per burst of events.
📦 Install
• Dart Sass works: a machine with only sass (no sassc) no longer counts as missing a dependency.
• Copyous clipboard entries show up again: text items get the tracking object their listener needs, so they are no longer dropped.
v0.3.3 — Banner Blur, Apply Preview and Clean Modes
✨ What's New in v0.3.3
🔔 Notifications
• Banner blur every time: a notification banner now settles its blur after the slide-in finishes, so it no longer arrives with no blur or washed out until hovered. A hidden top bar (fullscreen window, autohide) or a banner on another monitor no longer fades the blur away.
• Rounded history cards: notification history cards get rounded blur corners without gnome-rounded-blur too.
🪟 Settings app
• Know what Apply will do: the "N changes" popover now opens on whether Apply is a quick apply (and of what) or a full reapply (and why).
• Package installs: installed from the AUR, the Updates page now checks GitHub and points you to your package manager instead of saying "Could not check".
• Moga cursor packs show up on the Packages page.
🧊 Glass modes
• The old Solid mode is gone: an install from that era is migrated once, to Performance, with its theme files and extensions put back.
• The window opacity follows adaptive performance transitions, and --no-window-menu now works and applies without a reload.
🔧 Install and packaging
• Rounded blur installs where the shell can load it: the rootless ~/.local build never loaded, so it is removed. gnome-rounded-blur now comes from your AUR helper, or meson with sudo.
• Honest messages on GNOME 51 and for the rounded-blur build. sudo is asked for only when it will be used.
• AUR package: MIT license, working install hooks, desktop entry and icon, and versions that follow the tags.
🧪 Checks
• New check that the Blur My Shell patches still apply to the pinned version and define every name they use.
• Lifecycle, overview and Moga checks now run on every commit, and the Moga check no longer touches your real settings.
v0.3.2
v0.3.1 — Desktop Icons Fix
What's Changed
Fixes
• Gray sheet over the wallpaper with Desktop Icons NG: the translucent window ground was also painting the desktop-icons window, covering the wallpaper until the Overview was opened. That window now stays transparent. Reported in #13.
v0.3.0 — Improvements
What's Changed
Improvements & Enhancements
• Fresh frosted seeding: a first --glass-mode frosted now starts at the same transparency and blur scope a flagless run would use, instead of coming out opaque.
• Window brightness per mode: window-brightness is now kept in each mode's drawer.
• Dry runs leave nothing behind: --dry-run resolves against a throwaway copy of the mode drawers and writes nothing to ~/.config/aura-glass.
• Reapply and updates in a terminal: the settings app runs theme reapply and updates in an interactive terminal.
Fixes
• Decoupled transient adaptive blur from shell reload and guarded the Blur My Shell refresh on GNOME 51.
• Dropped the obsolete rounded-blur Mutter 51 patch and refined the subwindow blur patch.
Docs
• New contributor docs: feature map, structure, consistency checklist and known issues.
v0.2.9 — Mode Isolation and Safe Blur Stand-Down
What's Changed
Improvements & Enhancements
• Mode Settings Isolation: Completely separated Frosted Glass mode and Performance mode drawer settings on disk (~/.config/aura-glass/modes/). Modifying colors, tints, or opacity in one mode no longer alters, defaults, or bleeds into the other mode.
• Safe Performance Stand-Down (GNOME 51 Crash Fix): Stand down all Blur My Shell blur pipelines dynamically without unloading the extension itself, avoiding Mutter/Clutter actor metadata segfaults and desktop logout crashes when toggling modes.
• Full Settings Restoration: Restoring Frosted Glass mode from the top-tray adaptive switcher or Settings GUI restores the full suite of frosted parameters (transparency, app/shell tints, blur strength, popup brightness, notification opacity, and blur scopes).
• Default 100% Performance Transparency: Performance mode defaults to 100% opacity (1.00) with zero GPU overhead while maintaining full Aura Glass theme geometry, corner radii, accents, and custom tints.
• GUI & Flag Precedence: Updated Settings GUI and CLI precedence so explicit blur controls override remembered modes cleanly without contradiction errors across all 71 flag transitions.
v0.2.8 — Quick Settings improvements and extension updates
What's Changed
Improvements & Enhancements
- Quick Settings Corner Radius Alignment: Restated corner radius at
!importantincss/shell-popup-blur.cssand added totools/token_manifest.pyso the foreground painted surface matches the Blur My Shell background blur across all 7 presets (flat, sharp, adwaita, soft, medium, default, rounded). - Recommended Extensions: Added Quick Settings Audio Panel (
quick-settings-audio-panel@rayzeq.github.io) to recommended and complete extension tiers, providing a per-app volume mixer and audio output switcher. - Tiling Assistant Activation: Enabled Tiling Assistant (
tiling-assistant@leleat-on-github) automatically on update and added it to the recommended extensions pack. - Removed Retired Extensions: Retired and uninstalled Magic Lamp Effect (
compiz-alike-magic-lamp-effect@hermes83.github.com) cleanly from the theme configuration and local user systems. - Display Scaling & Panel Metrics: Fixed logical monitor scale parsing in Mutter display config to prevent oversized panel icons on custom display scales.
- Blur My Shell Compatibility: Resolved blur conflicts between first-party extension components and upstream Blur My Shell.
