First release of HoldTalk — push-to-talk dictation for macOS, 100% free and offline.

Hold a key, speak Bangla or English, release: your words appear at the cursor. Powered by whisper.cpp running entirely on-device.

Highlights

  • 🎙️ Hold Right ⌥ to transcribe (Bangla→Bangla, English→English, auto-detected)
  • 🔁 Hold Right ⌥⇧ to translate Bangla speech → English text
  • ⚡ ~1.5–3.5s per dictation — model preloads while you speak, stays warm between dictations
  • 🪶 ~57 MB idle RAM; the speech model auto-unloads after idle (great on 8 GB Macs)
  • ⌨️ Customizable hotkeys, launch at login, menu bar UI
  • 🔒 No API keys, no accounts, nothing uploaded — ever

Install

Recommended (builds locally + downloads models):

git clone https://github.com/DevWizardHQ/HoldTalk.git && cd HoldTalk && ./setup.sh

  2. First open: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/HoldTalk.app (self-signed, Gatekeeper)
  3. Install whisper.cpp: brew install whisper-cpp
  4. Launch, grant Microphone + Accessibility, download models from Settings (~1.1 GB)

Requirements
