Mac Duo 0.1.14 keeps Apple silicon native and adds a separate Intel preview. 🟠

• No Rosetta on M-series Macs: Mac-Duo.dmg and Mac-Duo-mac.zip remain ARM64-only, with the same renderer and animation path as 0.1.13.
• Native Intel preview: Mac-Duo-Intel.dmg and Mac-Duo-Intel.zip contain only x86_64 code. They are intended for Intel MacBooks with a continuous lid-angle sensor, notably the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro.
• Architecture-aware updates: Check for Updates selects the native ZIP for the Mac’s processor and verifies its entry in the shared SHA-256 manifest.
• Safer release builds: Apple-silicon and Intel builds use separate output folders, preventing one package from overwriting the other.

Install or update

Use Mac-Duo.dmg on Apple silicon. Use Mac-Duo-Intel.dmg on an Intel Mac. Open the DMG and drag Mac Duo into Applications. Quit an older copy before replacing it. Native ZIPs and SHA-256 checksums are also included below.

The app is free and open source. Public builds are not notarized. If macOS blocks the first launch, try opening the app, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Allow Screen Recording to use the live desktop effect; Mac Duo does not capture audio or upload desktop frames. An update may need Screen Recording approval again.

Apple-silicon compatibility remains unchanged: expected hardware is M2+ MacBook Air and 14-/16-inch M1 Pro/Max+ MacBook Pro. M1 Air and 13-inch M1/M2 Pro are unsupported.

The Intel download is a preview because physical Intel hardware testing is still pending. Older Intel models with only an open/closed clamshell switch remain unsupported. Please report the exact Mac model and macOS version with Intel results.

Built for macOS 13. The ARM64 build, all six Metal effects, Ghost motion, updater packages, localization, and source tests were verified on an M4 Mac.

Mac Duo 0.1.13

Mac Duo 0.1.13 brings more languages, a quieter way to start, faster lid sampling, and a steadier Ghost. 🟠

• English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Japanese: Mac Duo now follows the macOS language setting across controls, menus, status messages, update dialogs and the Screen Recording description.
• Open at login: opt in from settings or the menu. Login launches start paused, so following and Screen Recording still require an explicit Enable click each session.
• Optional menu-bar icon: it remains visible by default, but can be hidden. Reopen Mac Duo from Applications or Spotlight to bring settings back.
• More responsive lid tracking: sensor polling now follows the existing power-, temperature- and display-aware 30/60/120 Hz refresh cap.
• A steadier Ghost: whole-degree lid reports are smoothed without overshoot or a full degree of lag. The keyboard-fixed viewing geometry, clearer hinge, and paired reference plane also remain intact.

• New Ghost effect: the desktop appears to stay at its resting plane while the lid tilts, with perspective compensation and gradual blur. Duo remains the default, with six effects to choose from.
• macOS 13 Ventura support, on compatible Apple silicon MacBooks.
• Check for Updates → Install & Relaunch from the app or menu bar. Downloads are verified; no background polling.
• Gentler blur for small bends, a new movement reference after resting, and a smooth return to clear in both the desktop and preview.
• Fewer repeated frame imports and main-thread callbacks, shared Metal pipelines, and release of unused effect buffers.

Mac Duo 0.1.6 — Background behavior fixed

Mac Duo now keeps following your lid in the background without bringing its settings window forward.

• Switch desktops: old frames are cleared and capture resumes on the new desktop while Mac Duo stays enabled.
• Use another app: settings remain at their normal window level. They stay above the effect only while you are actively using them.
• Keep it running: removed the old 45-second auto-pause. Two-second stillness clearing, the adjustable 1–5 second timer, Esc and the pause shortcut remain available.
• Capture keeps its own process-exclusion identity when settings are closed or on another desktop.

The optimized build and 19 tests passed. Live checks recorded 214 seconds of enabled operation, successful desktop changes, and fresh background capture with the settings window at normal level. The five effect shaders are unchanged.

Quit Mac Duo, open Mac-Duo.dmg, and drag Mac Duo into Applications. This public development build is not notarized. If macOS blocks it, try opening it once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway for Mac Duo and confirm Open. Apple’s guide.

Mac Duo 0.1.5 — Five ways to move

Mac Duo makes your desktop respond to the physical movement of your MacBook lid. This first public release includes Duo, Roll, Shutter, Flex and Iris, live preview, configurable 1–5 second stillness clearing, compact floating controls, orange Light/Dark themes, and menu-bar controls.

Download and install

Apple silicon · macOS 14+ · compatible MacBook lid sensor. Tested on an M4 MacBook Pro. External displays are not animated.

1. Download Mac-Duo.dmg below, open it, and drag Mac Duo into Applications. The ZIP contains the same app.
2. Open Mac Duo once. This is an unnotarized development release, so macOS may initially say it cannot open or verify the app.
3. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Security → Open Anyway for Mac Duo, then confirm Open. Apple’s instructions.
4. Click Enable Mac Duo and allow Screen Recording. Reopen if macOS asks. Frames stay in memory on your Mac; nothing is recorded or uploaded.

Replay works without capture permission. Keep Clear when the lid is still enabled to use the screen normally at any angle. Press Esc or ⌃⌥⌘F to pause. Quit Mac Duo before replacing it with an update. Development signatures may require granting Screen Recording again after updates.

Verification

The optimized arm64 build, 19 tests, and all five Metal rendering checks passed. Checks cover exact open/reopened pixels, full closure, distinct geometry, smooth onset, Reduce Motion and blur-cache freshness. On an Apple M4, native-resolution offscreen GPU time at the 95th percentile was 1.94–2.30 ms across the effects. This does not establish an end-to-end 120 FPS or battery-life result. Full physical lid sweeps and sustained energy/latency measurements remain unverified.

The DMG and ZIP passed integrity checks; mounted DMG files match the built app. Mac-Duo-SHA256SUMS.txt contains SHA-256 hashes of both downloads.
