DA Media Browser 0.15.0 (beta)

Video playing in the app can now pop out into mpv's own window and come
back, some of mpv's keys work on the video in the app, and the queue
switches between audio and video as a whole.

Pop out to mpv

  • Pop Out on the transport bar moves the video playing in the app into
mpv's own window, where all of mpv's controls work. The transport bar
still controls it. Into App brings it back. Both are also in the
    Playback menu (Ctrl+Shift+P).
  • Playback carries on from the same moment: paused or playing, with the
same volume, subtitles and audio track. There's a short gap while a new
mpv starts, which can be a few seconds for a Blu-ray.
  • The rest of the queue keeps playing where the video went, until you next
    choose to play a video.

mpv's keys on the video in the app

With the video in the app focused:

  • S saves a screenshot to Pictures/DA Media Browser. The status bar
shows where it went. Screenshots taken with S in mpv's own window go
    there too.
  • V shows or hides subtitles.
  • J switches to the next subtitle track, and # to the next audio track.

Each key shows a short message over the video, so they work in fullscreen
too.

The queue plays as audio or as video

  • The whole queue now plays one way. Whatever starts the queue sets it, and
anything added later plays the same way.
  • A new Audio / Video button above the queue switches all of it. If
something is playing, it switches over from the same moment.
  • Playlists remember whether they were saved as audio or video. Play
plays them that way, and Play as Audio / Play as Video override it.
Playlists saved by earlier versions play as your default (see below).
  • The queue's right-click menu is now just Play and Remove.

Choose audio or video as the default

Playback → Play by Default → Audio / Video sets what a double-click
(or Enter) on a chapter plays. It also sets which Play button on a video's
page is the main one, and what Add to Queue starts an empty queue as.
Audio is still the default.

Tidier window

  • The video page's extra Fullscreen button is gone. The one on the
transport bar does the same job and stays reachable in fullscreen.
  • Add Folder is off the toolbar. It's still in the File menu and at the
    top of the Libraries panel.
  • View → Libraries / Queue reopens either panel if you close it.

Before you start

  • Beta, no warranty. See the README and LICENSE (GPL-3.0-or-later).
  • AI features cost money. They're off until you add an API key, and each
one shows roughly what it costs, but a large library adds up. Use a key
    with a daily spending limit.
  • Needs from your system: ffmpeg, mpv and (for Blu-ray folders)
libbluray, plus a keyring if you use the AI features. Video in the app,
and Pop Out, need X11 or XWayland (the app arranges XWayland itself on a
    Wayland desktop).
