DA Media Browser 0.17.0 (beta)
DA Media Browser 0.17.0 (beta)
You now choose what the app may send online, libraries can sit inside one
another without losing their titles and chapters, a library whose folder
moves (or whose NAS changes address) can be found again, and Blu-rays get
covers.
Privacy settings
- AI Settings is now Settings (File → Settings,
Ctrl+,), with a
Privacy tab: looking up tracklists on MusicBrainz, fetching cover art
from the Cover Art Archive, sending videos to the AI, and letting the AI
search the web are each off until you tick them, and each says what
it sends. - The first launch, before any library is added, says to go there first.
- A library or video marked Private is still never sent anywhere,
whatever is ticked.
Libraries inside libraries
- Titles and chapters now belong to the video, not the library. Add
BABYMETALas a library, name its concerts, then add theMusicVids
folder around it: MusicVids has every name already, and from then on the
two share them. Adding a folder inside a library works the same way. - Before either, the app says what it found and that nothing is lost. The
Libraries panel shows a nested library as "in MusicVids". - Forget says exactly what would go. Forgetting a library inside
another loses nothing, and adding it again finds it all there. - A nested library set Locked or Private covers its videos when they're
seen through the library around it, too.
Renamed, moved, a new NAS
- Video files renamed or moved within a library are found on the next
rescan and keep their titles and chapters. - If a library's folder was renamed or moved, its NAS has a new IP
address, or it's on a new NAS: right-click it, Locate Moved Folder…
or Locate on Network…. It checks the videos are there and says what
will move. When the library around it moved too, the whole share moves
together.
Restore, and deleting for good
- A backup is kept whenever a library is forgotten, merged into one
around it, moved or restored into. Restore… (Libraries panel, or
File → Restore Library…) brings one back without losing anything done
since. - Delete Library Data… (right-click a library) and File → Delete All
Library Data… delete for good, backups included, after a warning that
counts what will go and a box you must tick. - Only the app's own records are ever changed. Every file it writes,
renames or deletes is checked to be in its own data folder, and anything
else is refused - your videos are never touched.
Covers for Blu-rays
- A disc now shows its own artwork - the thumbnail its maker put on the
disc for players' menus - and a frame of the title when it has none.
Before, a Blu-ray had no cover unless an image sat beside it.
Faster
- Ticking libraries on and off is about three times quicker with a large
library, and quicker still on a network share: missing files are now
found with one look per folder rather than one per video.
Fixes
- Covers from the Cover Art Archive were never kept. The downloaded
sleeve was scaled onto itself, which ffmpeg refuses. - A name joined by underscores ("BABYMETAL_LEGEND_MM_20NIGHT") was cut
off at both sides of its tile. It now wraps.
Upgrading from 0.16
- MusicBrainz, cover art and the AI are off until you tick them in
Settings → Privacy - including on an existing install. Until then,
those buttons are greyed out and say why. - Libraries you had stored separately that overlap are folded together
the first time 0.17 starts, the further-along copy of each video kept.
A backup of each is kept first.
Before you start
- Beta, no warranty. See the README and LICENSE (GPL-3.0-or-later).
- AI features cost money. They're off until you allow them and add an
API key, and each one shows roughly what it costs, but a large library
adds up. Use a key with a daily spending limit. - Needs from your system: ffmpeg, mpv and (for Blu-ray folders)
libbluray, plus a keyring if you use the AI features. Video in the app
needs X11 or XWayland (the app arranges XWayland itself on a Wayland
desktop).
