Release list
v0.1.2 - settings page + native window embedding
eDEX-Deck v0.1.2
New: a settings page
The dock has a SETTINGS button that opens a local page (http://127.0.0.1:8899/). It is bilingual — EN / 中文 switchable in the corner, remembered in localStorage and auto-detected on first visit. From there:
- Attach a running application — pick any window (Blender, an IDE, a browser). It becomes part of the eDEX frame by reparenting the real window handle, so it's the actual application, not a web copy.
- Embed a web address — anything over HTTP.
- Serve a local folder — from inside the binary, no external Python needed.
- Save it as a profile — written back to
edex-deck.json, optionally as the new default so the next double-click goes straight there.
An attached window tracks #main_shell, so it follows layout switches instead of freezing where it was attached.
Fixed
/api/windows returned an empty body. The handle coming out of EnumWindows is a ctypes HWND, which json.dumps rejects — and the error path then sent nothing at all, so the window picker could never load (you'd see Unexpected end of JSON input). Handles are now plain ints, and a response is never empty even when serialisation fails.
Notes
- Window embedding is Windows-only by design — Wayland and macOS do not permit cross-process window embedding.
- macOS (
.dmg) and Linux binaries are produced by CI and will appear here shortly after the tag is pushed. - Close eDEX before upgrading: the settings service binds
127.0.0.1:8899.

v0.1.1 - layout sync + module placement
eDEX-Deck v0.1.1
Fixes for layout switching and the embedded view, plus module placement.
Fixed
- The embedded Web UI no longer drifts out of place after switching layouts. Its bounds now follow the shell via a
ResizeObserverinstead of guessing the CSS transition duration — so you no longer have to click something else to make it snap back into alignment. - GLOBE is usable again under
COCKPIT. A wildcard selector was hiding the module together with its children, so the MODULES toggle couldn't bring it back. The right column now scrolls instead. - Double-clicking the binary now does something visible. A bare launch applies
defaultProfilefromedex-deck.json. Previously it only injected the dock and left the centre pane on the shell prompt, which looked like the embed feature was broken.
New
- Modules can be moved between columns. Every
PANELentry in the MODULES panel has a placement badge —Lleft,Rright,Dbottom strip. Click it to relocate the module; the columns, the bottom strip and the terminal all re-flow around it, and a column that gets emptied collapses instead of leaving a bare title. - The bottom strip is a real slot, so you can keep a few gauges visible in layouts that otherwise give the terminal everything.
--preset <name>and--eval-file <path>for scripted verification.

Note
If you already ran an earlier build, the layout you last selected is remembered in eDEX's localStorage. To reset, double-click the dock (restores the corner position) and clear the preset by selecting DEFAULT.

What it does
- Layout dock — 3 presets (
DEFAULT/COCKPIT/FOCUS) plus 11 per-module toggles. Draggable, snaps to screen edges and collapses to a hover tab. - Embed any local Web UI — the centre pane is a
BrowserView, so anything over HTTP can live there: VS Code (code-server), JupyterLab, Grafana, your own dashboard. - Themes — ships a
deck-tealtheme plus tooling to derive a palette from any screenshot. - Zero file modification — eDEX's install directory and
settings.jsonare never touched. Everything happens at runtime over the DevTools Protocol and disappears when eDEX exits.
Usage
Double-click the binary. It injects the dock and stays running until you close eDEX.
Keep edex-deck.json next to the binary to use profiles:
edex-deck.exe --profile vscodeRequirements
- eDEX-UI 2.2.x installed
- Nothing else — Python is bundled
Notes
- Windows only in this release; CI covers macOS and Linux on tag.
- The binary is unsigned, so SmartScreen may warn on first run.
- Uses eDEX's
--remote-debugging-port, which grants full renderer control to any local process while running. It is closed on exit.
