LocalRock v1.3.0 adds cleaning settings per room, control over the order rooms are cleaned in, SmartPlan, and optional robot alerts. It also fixes the online indicator, slow starts, and several problems on older robots and on robots that never used the official app.
Server requirement: none. Everything in this release talks to the robot directly over the existing connection, so any server that works with v1.2.0 works here.
Before you update (Android): the app now checks that your server's MQTT certificate matches its host name. A server whose certificate does not match connected before and will be refused now.
Settings per room
Open the cleaning mode and choose Per room (#10).
- Every room on the map gets its own suction, water flow and route. Set a room's suction to Off to only mop it, or its water to Off to only vacuum it.
- Save writes all rooms in one go and then reads them back to confirm the robot stored them.
- A clean started while Per room is selected uses these settings. Switch back to Manual or SmartPlan to use one setting for the whole home again.
Cleaning order
- Picked rooms are cleaned in the order you tap them (#8). The numbers on the room chips are now the order the robot follows.
- Default cleaning order. More > Rooms > Default cleaning order sets the order for a clean without picked rooms. Move rooms up and down in the list and save.
- Both are stored as the robot's own cleaning sequence. The default order is put back each time you start a clean without picked rooms from LocalRock.
SmartPlan
On robots that have it, the cleaning mode offers SmartPlan, where the robot chooses suction, water and route for each room. Contributed by @maiis (#16).
Robot alerts
Settings > Notifications, off until you turn it on.
- Alerts for errors and a stuck robot, a finished clean, and a dock that needs attention (clean water empty, dirty water full, dust bag missing).
- Android: "Keep watching in the background" keeps the connection to your server open so alerts arrive while the app is closed, and can show the progress of a running clean. Android shows one permanent notification while this is on.
- iOS: alerts arrive while LocalRock is open.
- Alerts come straight from your own server, so they only arrive while your phone can reach it.
Fixes
- Online indicator (#6). The device list asks each robot directly instead of mirroring the server's home data, so a robot that does not answer no longer shows as online.
- Slow start and stuck offline (#20). The app connects as soon as you are signed in instead of when a robot's screen opens, keeps retrying when the first attempt fails, and retries at once when you return to the app. The offline banner no longer flashes on every start, and the map is requested again until it arrives. Based on a report and patch by @binarious.
- Map editing and map switching on older robots (#11, #14). Robots such as the S7 and S5 Max refuse or ignore the command format newer firmware uses. The app now falls back to the older format by itself.
- Saving the first map on a robot that never used the official app (#17). Such a robot has map saving switched off. "Save new map" turns it on first, and the Maps sheet shows a button for it.
- Connecting through a reverse proxy (#18). The Android MQTT connection now sends the server name (SNI).
- The cleaning mode button under the map shows SmartPlan and Per room instead of "Vac & Mop".
- Error messages no longer show internal names; a robot that does not answer reads "The robot didn't answer in time".
Other
- The Routines screen is now called Schedule.
- Add vacuum explains more clearly what to do when the run ends, and tells you to turn off a VPN when the phone cannot reach the vacuum's Wi-Fi.
Known limitations
- The fixes for #11, #14, #17 and #18 could not be tested here on the affected robots and setups. If you reported one of them, please say in the issue whether this release solves it.
- Settings per room and the cleaning order were tested on an S8 Pro Ultra. Robots with a different water system (water slide models) may not take the per-room water levels yet.
- Settings per room has no cleaning count per room.
- Removing the default cleaning order only stops LocalRock from applying it. The robot keeps the last order it was given.
- Map edits can only be saved on a robot with a single saved map (map 0). Editing a second floor is not supported yet.
- Map names are limited to plain characters for now (no æ, ø, å or emoji).
