OG Converter v1.8.0
OG Converter v1.8.0 (Windows x64 and Linux x64 beta)
Windows: download og-converter-v1.8.0-win-x64.exe and run it; no install or .NET runtime needed. Already installed? Use Settings > System > Check for updates.
Linux (beta): download og-converter-v1.8.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, then tar -xzf it and run ./og-converter. Install it from Settings > System, and on GNOME turn on drag-and-tap in Settings > Desktop integration.
What's new
- Several pictures to one PDF: select several pictures, tap the wheel key and choose PDF. OG Converter now asks whether to
merge them into a single PDF (a page per picture, sorted by name, with the order editable in the list) or create a PDF for
each picture, as before. It remembers your last choice. Each page is made the same way as converting that picture alone (JPEGs
are kept as they are, SVGs stay vector). - Linux (beta): the same choice when you drag several pictures from Files and pick PDF (individual PDFs are made one after another).
- Folder Icon (Actions wheel, for folders): give a folder a coloured icon with a symbol from the built-in library (10 colours,
32 symbols) or your own picture, with a live preview, and Reset to default to undo. Drag several folders to give them all the
same icon. The icon is kept inside the folder, so it moves with it. Works on Windows and on Linux (GNOME Files, Nemo, Caja). - Fixed: a JPEG with neither a JFIF nor an Exif header (written by some web and editing tools) failed to convert to PDF with
"Unsupported image format". It's now embedded as a lossless PNG instead.
Linux is in beta
Everything works except custom templates that ship a renderer plugin (.dll): plugins are Windows only for now, and such templates are drawn with the classic ring on Linux. Drag-and-tap needs GNOME (other desktops: the file manager's right-click menu), and Linux copies don't update themselves yet. We'll be sorting these out soon. If you notice anything else, please open an issue.
Requirements
- Windows: Windows 10 (1809) or later. Media features (video, audio, GIF, WebP/AVIF/JPEG XL) need FFmpeg:
winget install Gyan.FFmpeg - Linux: 64-bit, glibc. Optional tools (Ubuntu):
sudo apt install ffmpeg libreoffice chromium tesseract-ocr tesseract-ocr-eng 7zip libarchive-tools wl-clipboard xclip poppler-utils libheif-examples - Verify a download with its
.sha256file:Get-FileHash <file> -Algorithm SHA256on Windows,sha256sum -c <file>.sha256on Linux

OG Converter v1.7.0
OG Converter v1.7.0 (Windows x64 and Linux x64 beta)
Windows: download og-converter-v1.7.0-win-x64.exe and run it; no install or .NET runtime needed. Already installed? Use Settings > System > Check for updates.
Linux (beta): download og-converter-v1.7.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, then tar -xzf it and run ./og-converter. Install it from Settings > System, and on GNOME turn on drag-and-tap in Settings > Desktop integration.
What's new
- Convert many files at once: select several files, drag them and tap the wheel key. The option you pick runs on every file it
suits (the wheel shows "+N more files"); files it doesn't suit are listed in Recent activity with the reason. - Runs a few at a time: videos convert 2 at once (3 on PCs with 16 or more threads) and lighter files up to 4 at once, so a big
batch finishes sooner without freezing the PC. The rest show "Waiting…" until a slot frees up. - One notification for the batch: "4 of 10 done · 2 running · 1 failed" with an overall progress bar, then a summary with the
first problem and Open folder. - Cancel: a Cancel button on the progress notification, a × on each running file in Recent activity, and Cancel all
while several run. Video and audio work stops at once and the half-written file is removed. - Compress asks for its settings once per kind of file in a batch, and Zip once; Crop, Trim and the other tools still ask for each
file. Dragging several PDFs and choosing Merge starts the merge with all of them. - Two files that would get the same output name (for example
clip.movandclip.mkvto MP4) no longer overwrite each other. - Fixed: a finished conversion's notification could briefly show "100%" instead of its result.
- Linux (beta) still converts one file per drag; batches come to Linux in a later release.

OG Converter v1.6.1
OG Converter v1.6.1 (Windows x64 and Linux x64 beta)
Windows: download og-converter-v1.6.1-win-x64.exe and run it; no install or .NET runtime needed. Already installed? Use Settings > System > Check for updates.
Linux (beta): download og-converter-v1.6.1-linux-x64.tar.gz, then tar -xzf it and run ./og-converter. Install it from Settings > System, and on GNOME turn on drag-and-tap in Settings > Desktop integration.
What's new
- The wheel only opens for file and folder drags: holding the left mouse button in a game (or selecting text, or moving a window)
and pressing Shift, Ctrl or Alt no longer opens the wheel. It now opens only when you're actually dragging files or folders
(from Explorer, VS Code, JetBrains IDEs and so on), and never while a full-screen game or app is in front. - Recommended extras: an install of FFmpeg or LibreOffice can now be cancelled with Cancel install, Esc or Alt+F4, so a hidden
admin prompt or a stuck download no longer leaves the window stuck. If the LibreOffice admin prompt doesn't show up, click the
flashing shield icon on the taskbar. Nothing needs a restart: installed helpers are picked up straight away.

What's new
- Compress to a target file size: in Compress › Lossy, choose Size control › Target file size and type the size you need
(for example1for 1 MB or0.5for 500 KB) instead of trying qualities by hand. OG Converter finds the highest quality that fits:
for images (JPEG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL, palette PNG, TIFF), GIFs, PDFs and Word/Excel/PowerPoint/OpenDocument files it tries
qualities from the best down, and only makes the picture smaller (or lowers the resolution of pictures in a document) when even a
low quality doesn't fit. Audio gets the highest bitrate that fits its length. Video keeps its two-pass target size.
New presets: Under 2 MB, Under 1 MB and Under 500 KB for images, PDFs and Office files. The limit counts 1 MB as
1,000,000 bytes, so the file is under it however a site counts megabytes. If a file can't get that small, the smallest result is
kept and marked "Smallest possible, over target".

OG Converter v1.5.0
OG Converter v1.5.0 (Windows x64 and Linux x64 beta)
Windows: download og-converter-v1.5.0-win-x64.exe and run it; no install or .NET runtime needed. Already installed? Use Settings > System > Check for updates.
Linux (beta): download og-converter-v1.5.0-linux-x64.tar.gz, then tar -xzf it and run ./og-converter. Install it from Settings > System, and on GNOME turn on drag-and-tap in Settings > Desktop integration.
What's new
- Linux version (beta): OG Converter now runs on Linux, as
og-converter-vX.Y.Z-linux-x64.tar.gznext to the Windows exe.
The wheel, the dashboard, every dialog, notifications, the tray and templates work. On GNOME, a small helper extension
(Settings › Desktop integration) brings drag-and-tap; on other desktops, use the file manager's right-click menu.
Still being sorted out: templates with a renderer plugin (.dll) are Windows only for now and are drawn with the classic ring
on Linux, and Linux copies don't update themselves yet (the updater links to the release page). Please report any bugs you notice. - Crop: zoom in with Ctrl+scroll or the new −/+ buttons, scroll or middle-drag to move around, Fit to see the whole picture and
Width to fill the width at the top of the selection, which makes long pictures (a README saved as one image) easy to crop.
Dragging a handle past the edge scrolls the picture. - Web pages, Markdown and SVG: two jobs that render at the same time no longer delete each other's output (which failed with "The
browser didn't produce a PDF"), a browser that exits without output gets one more try, and the error now says why the browser failed.

What's new
- Archive replaces Zip in the Actions wheel. Pack files and folders as ZIP, 7z, RAR, TAR, tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.xz, tar.zst, tar.lz4, tar.lz, tar.br, gz, bz2, xz, zst, lz4, lz, br, cpio, ISO or ar. Each format has its own settings: compression level, method (Deflate, LZMA2, PPMd…), solid mode, all CPU cores, zstd long-range matching, Brotli window size and RAR recovery records.
- Passwords in Archive › Advanced for ZIP (AES-256 or ZipCrypto), 7z and RAR (AES-256, optionally hiding file names).
- Protect › Password-protected archive can now make a 7z or RAR as well as a ZIP, with the compression level and file-name encryption. Unlock opens password-protected 7z and RAR archives.
- Guetzli JPEG re-encoding: in Compress (as an output format) and in Archive (for every JPEG in the folder). JPEGs come out 20–30% smaller and look the same. Downloaded on request. The dialogs show this PC's CPU and free memory, the memory and time the job needs, and how many pictures to encode at once (each choice with its cost). Pictures bigger than the free memory are skipped unless you tick Do it anyway.
- 7-Zip and WinRAR install from the Archive and Protect dialogs when a format needs them.
- Archive and Protect show live progress like conversions do, and quitting OG Converter stops any Guetzli, 7-Zip or WinRAR still running.
- Extract now handles .tar.zst, .tar.lz4, .tar.br, .tar.lz, .zst, .lz4, .br, .lz, .cpio and .iso too.
- In-app updates: Settings › System › Check for updates finds the latest release, shows what's new, then downloads it, verifies its checksum and restarts. Settings and templates are kept. OG Converter only contacts GitHub when you click.
- About: shows the real version of the build, plus Source code (opens the GitHub repository) and Release notes buttons.
- Recommended extras: on first start and right after installing, OG Converter offers to install FFmpeg if it's missing, and the free LibreOffice suite if neither Microsoft Office nor LibreOffice is found. Settings › Engine has the same Install buttons and now also shows the web browser's status. Nothing installs unless you click Install.
- New wheel defaults: 45% size, with the shortcut hints under the wheel hidden (turn them on in Settings › Advanced).
- Developers list updated, with GitHub links for Anandhu Suresh and Mahesh P S.
