Install or upgrade

brew install --cask drdroidlab/tap/marmot # new install
brew update && brew upgrade --cask marmot # from an earlier version

Or download Marmot-0.2.4.dmg, drag Marmot to Applications, and on first open use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

Important fix: Install hooks no longer resets your settings. In 0.2.2 and 0.2.3, Settings → Advanced → Install hooks also overwrote your Marmot settings (limit marks, sound, style, caps) with the defaults. If you clicked it, check Settings → Notifications after upgrading and set your marks again.

New

  • Install hooks from the menu. When Claude Code's hooks are missing, the menu offers to install them in one click. Hooks add long-session nudges and the daily digest; limits, cost and limit notifications work without them. After upgrading from an earlier version, click Install hooks once so they point at the installed app.
  • Demo data for screenshots: Settings → Advanced → Use demo data. Every screen shows synthetic sessions instead of yours.

Fixed

  • "1 MCP server never called add…" now reads "adds".

Node v24 LTS ships inside the app. Requires macOS 14+, Apple Silicon or Intel. Details: https://drdroid.io/marmot

Or download Marmot-0.2.3.dmg, drag Marmot to Applications, and on first open use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

Node v24 LTS ships inside the app. Requires macOS 14+.

@aravind-drdroid aravind-drdroid released this 15 Sep 11:24

Third pre-release of the Marmot menu bar app. Built from #15.

Install or upgrade

brew install --cask drdroidlab/tap/marmot # new install
brew update && brew upgrade --cask marmot # from 0.2.0 or 0.2.1

Or download Marmot-0.2.2.dmg, drag Marmot to Applications, and on first open use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

Accurate daily numbers

  • Cost and tokens are counted on the day each turn happened, in your local time zone. The chart used to put a whole session on the day it ended, in UTC.
  • Today, the 30-day total and the chart come from the same daily figures, so they always agree.

Charts

  • Cost | Tokens toggle, with hover details per day and per model.
  • An expanded window: Usage (7/30/90 days, stacked by model, totals, model table) and Recommendations.

Notifications settings

  • Separate 5-hour session and weekly limit sections, each with any number of % marks.
  • Long-session marks, the limit-runs-out and limit-pace reminders, and the daily digest with a test button.

Menu

  • Limit bars are green below 50%, yellow from 50%, red from 75%.
  • Two one-line recommendations that open in place; "See all" opens the window.
  • When a limit window resets, its row stays at 0% ("just reset") instead of disappearing.
  • "View Insights in Browser" (renamed from "Open session browser").

Node v24 LTS ships inside the app. Requires macOS 14+. Claude Cowork usage appears in the limit bars; Cowork sessions don't write local session files, so they aren't in cost, tokens or the insights page.

Marmot for Mac 0.2.1 (pre-release)

@aravind-drdroid aravind-drdroid released this 15 Sep 09:16

Second pre-release of the Marmot menu bar app. Built from #15, now merged with main (#16).

Install or upgrade

brew install --cask drdroidlab/tap/marmot # new install
brew upgrade --cask drdroidlab/tap/marmot     # from 0.2.0

Or download Marmot-0.2.1.dmg, drag Marmot to Applications, and on first open use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

New since 0.2.0 (from #16)

  • Long-session reminders at 10, 15 and 20 prompts you typed, on every plan
  • Dollar caps only on Enterprise and pay-as-you-go API; on Pro, Max and Team the plan limits speak
  • A stale limit reading is refreshed in the background instead of falling back to dollars
  • Limit marks can be set per window (marmot remind --window session --at 90)
  • Every notification shown is kept in ~/.claude/marmot-notifications.jsonl (marmot notifications)

App

  • Every Marmot notification, including marmot test-notification, goes to the menu bar app while it is running, and falls back to the dialog when it is not
  • Notifications the app posts between turns are also recorded in the notification log
  • Homebrew 7: the recipe uses postflight_steps, so installs show no deprecation warning

Node v24 LTS ships inside the app. Requires macOS 14+.

Marmot for Mac 0.2.0 (pre-release)

@aravind-drdroid aravind-drdroid released this 15 Sep 08:01

First pre-release of the Marmot menu bar app. Built from #15.

Install

brew install --cask drdroidlab/tap/marmot

Or download Marmot-0.2.0.dmg, drag Marmot to Applications, and on first open use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (the app is not yet signed with an Apple Developer ID).

What's inside: the menu bar app, the Marmot engine, and Node v24 LTS. Nothing else needs installing. Requires macOS 14+.

What it does: Claude plan limits (5-hour session and weekly), today's and 30-day modelled cost, tokens, a 14-day chart, recommendations, and Marmot's nudges as native notifications, with a Settings window. Everything is read locally from files Claude Code already writes; no login.
