Ores and sun

  • Special rocks can be discovered by colour, scanned and melt via laser. Then, an "ore field" is created. There, a "mine" can be placed (pressing M) which starts collecting ore. On "lasering" the mine, the ore is moved to the ship. Mines work very slowly, but they also keep working when the player is far away.
  • The local star is now shown in a realistic size (for 60 degrees field of vision) and in the real astronomical position. Stars have also real sizes, types and colours. The screenshot is taken in the north pole.

Scalable persistency of alterations.

Now the alterations of the world are saved in a scalable way.

A distant rock can be fired on (temp increases), then the player goes far away (the rock stops cooling down), saves, loads and goes again back: the rock will have cooled down "during their absence".

This implies keeping rocks (and Km2) in memory, but inactive and only if the player changed something in them. I consider this scalable for a long time (later inactive chunks could be saved on drive). When they are activated again by the player's presence (also if the player saved and restarted the game) those "altered rocks" recalculate the cooling happened during that game time.

This is the most basic way to prove the most important concept. As her the DEVLOG, I will not concentrate on "nice things" which will provoke an extension of these concepts to more complex scenarios.

Other improvements: Orientation compass, tilted "rocks", rotating controls (Q and E).

The laser works.

Screenshot 2026-09-14 140809 Screenshot 2026-09-14 140840 The main concept to proof, has been proven: a player can make a change in the generated world (heating a "rock" with a laser, which changes its colour) and this change is persistent in the save file, without saving the world. When the game starts again and this savefile is loaded, the world is generated anew but with exactly the same elements, and the change "it has been heated" is applied to the rock when the player approaches this region.

Main changes:

  • WASD and Q/E for orientation change.
  • "Rocks" (actually cubes of different sizes and colors) are generated. OpenGL is now used for the GUI.
  • Refactoring of many Gui and Universe concepts to split concerns.
  • Loading only the newest file, regardless of game datetime.

First release. Testing the creation of releases itself.

  • A first cockpit is shown, with deterministically generated stars and world.
  • The horizon line is calculated realistically, too, using the radius of the world.
  • Use Notepad- and Notepad+ to accelerate / decelerate time.
  • Use F5 to save, F6 to load.
Nothing else happens, I have worked on this about 15 hours but mostly learning Python, how to connect GitHub, choosing the IDE, trying to choose connect a free AI, learning how to use the AI at all.
