Linux Loader is an evolved fork of the original Lindbergh Loader project. Its primary goal is to run all SEGA Lindbergh arcade games on both Linux and Windows, with planned future support for additional arcade platforms such as Namco N2 / ES1 and Raw Thrills.

The project is written in C/C++ and is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) — it is intended for preservation and non-commercial personal use only.

Note: Only submit GitHub issues here for datfile-related problems. For setup, install and general emulator questions, ask in the author's Discord.

About the SEGA Lindbergh Platform

The SEGA Lindbergh is a PC-based arcade system board released by SEGA in 2005. It is powered by an Intel Pentium 4 / Core 2 CPU paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 6 or 7 series GPU, running a customized Linux OS. Games are stored on a hard drive and execute as native Linux ELF binaries — the Linux equivalent of a Windows .exe. The platform was used for many notable titles from SEGA's arcade lineup in the mid-to-late 2000s, including the Initial D, House of the Dead, After Burner Climax, and Virtua Tennis series.

What is an ELF?
An ELF (Executable and Linkable Format) is the Linux equivalent of a Windows .exe. Lindbergh game executables are ELF binaries. They may or may not have a file extension.

Basic Usage (Windows)

Standard Launch

If your game folder is inside the emulator folder and you want to specify the elf file to use:

linuxloader.exe .\Games\After_Burner_Climax_Rev_A_SBLR_DVP-0009A_JPN_USA_UK\abc

If your game folder is elsewhere, use the full path with the drive letter:

linuxloader.exe --gamepath "D:\linux\roms\After_Burner_Climax_Rev_A_SBLR_DVP-0009A_JPN_USA_UK\abc"

ELF Autodetection

Linux Loader can autodetect the game ELF using the --gamepath option. Just point your path to the folder that contains the game elf:

linuxloader.exe --gamepath .\Games\Ghost_Squad_Evolution_Rev_A_SBNJ_DVP-0029A_JPN\vsg_1\

Batch Files / Custom Launchers

Most users create per-game .bat files, or build a simple GUI launcher. Either approach works — there's no required method.

Configuration Files

Linux Loader uses two ini files. By default, it looks for them in the game directory:

File Purpose
linuxloader.ini Emulator and game configuration
controls.ini Controller and input mapping

Generating Default Config Files

linuxloader.exe --create config
linuxloader.exe --create controls

Example — expected file locations for After Burner Climax:

D:\Roms\After_Burner_Climax_SBLR_DVP-0009_JPN_USA_UK\linuxloader.ini
D:\Roms\After_Burner_Climax_SBLR_DVP-0009_JPN_USA_UK\controls.ini

Alternatively, you can pass config paths on the command line to override this behavior. See --help for details.

Test Mode

To boot any game into its test / service menu, add the -t flag:

linuxloader.exe "D:\Roms\After Burner Climax (SBLR) (Rev. A)\abc" -t

Use the Q key to enter the test menu once the game boots.

Tips & Troubleshooting

After Burner Climax — ABX01 Motor Error Fix

  1. Launch the game with -t to enter test mode:
    linuxloader.exe "D:\Roms\After Burner Climax (SBLR) (Rev. A)\abc" -t

  2. Navigate to Game Assignments (press Q)
  3. Set Cabinet Movement to OFF
  4. Quit the menu and close the game
  5. Relaunch without -t

This same test menu procedure applies to any game that needs initial hardware/cabinet configuration.

Finding ROMs

Search for SegaLindbergh on Archive.org. Not all available dumps are currently supported, and not all supported games are available.

Supported Games

The table below lists confirmed, clean supported releases with their Game ID, Disc ID, and ELF executable path relative to the game root folder.

NOTE: The Linux version of the emulator currently supports MORE games than the Windows emulator does. I'm sure they'll eventually be par with each other, but for now, I have indicated the "Linux only" games so you don't needlessly try to run them in the Windows emulator with failed results.

I also don't promise to keep this list up to date perfectly in line and to the minute with the emulator website. If you're going to pick a list to follow for release status and such, don't use this one. This is more for my own use to keep track of things.
