Reading Partner v0.26.1
Voice calls on Android, and topic search reads what posts link to.
Android phones with 8 GB of memory or more can now hold a voice call with Lumen, as on iPhone and iPad. Everything runs on the phone: Silero VAD and Smart Turn detect the end of your turn, Qwen3-ASR-0.6B recognises Chinese and English, and Kokoro reads the answers aloud. Download the models once in Settings > Optional > Voice call (about 1.07 GB from Hugging Face, plus the Silero model from its official GitHub release; an interrupted download resumes). The call runs in its own background process, so a failure in it does not take down the rest of the app. Phones under 8 GB, and Android versions before 12, do not show the voice call.
Xiaomi MiMo is gone from every platform; Kokoro on the device is the only voice. Desktop does not read answers aloud.
A voice chat now starts from the waveform button in Lumen's chat, and tapping Lumen ends it.
Topic search now opens the originals that X posts link to (pages, PDFs, GitHub READMEs, papers by DOI) and judges a post by what it links to, reads Hugging Face's paper search beside arXiv and X, and scores a post about a paper as a paper.
Stored data
voice-models/in the app's no-backup storage on Android: the Kokoro model and voices, Qwen3-ASR-0.6B (Q4_K_M) with its audio projector, Silero VAD v6.0 and Smart Turn v3.2. Excluded from device backups.
Known limitations
- Android voice calls have not been run on a real phone yet. They were built and tested in CI and against a simulated audio device on Linux only.
- On Android, echo cancellation quality depends on the phone; Lumen may be interrupted by its own voice on some models. Bluetooth headset routing is untested.
- On Android, a call uses about 2.8 GB of memory. Speech recognition starts as soon as you stop talking and adds roughly 0.3-0.4 s after the end of your turn on a desktop CPU; on a phone it is unmeasured.
- The Android app is arm64 only.
