First launch
These builds are not signed with a paid Apple or Microsoft certificate, so the system asks once before the first start.
- macOS: drag AETHER-OS into Applications. Open it once; when macOS refuses, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway (on macOS 14 and older you can also right-click the app → Open → Open). Terminal alternative:
xattr -cr /Applications/AETHER-OS.app. - Windows: run the installer. If SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info → Run anyway. The
-setup.exeinstalls for the current user without admin rights and adds a Start menu entry; the.msiinstalls for all users. - Linux:
chmod +x AETHER-OS_*.AppImage && ./AETHER-OS_*.AppImage(Ubuntu 22.04+ needslibfuse2/libfuse2t64for AppImages), orsudo apt install ./AETHER-OS_*.deb/sudo dnf install ./AETHER-OS-*.rpm.
Local AI is optional: install Ollama and the setup wizard downloads a model for you.

Verify the download
SHA256SUMS.txt lists the SHA-256 of every file. In the download folder, on macOS run shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txt --ignore-missing, on Linux sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.txt --ignore-missing; the file you downloaded must say OK.
Windows (PowerShell): Get-FileHash .\AETHER-OS_*_x64-setup.exe and compare with the line in SHA256SUMS.txt.
