Erebus 0.2.4
Packaged builds now start on all three platforms
The previous macOS builds could not be opened at all: without a developer identity electron-builder
left the bundle unsigned, keeping only the linker-signed signature of the original Electron binary,
which macOS treats as damaged with no way past it. The bundle is now ad-hoc signed and verifies.
Testing the other platforms the same way turned up two more:
- the deb installed and then failed with
libasound.so.2: cannot open shared object file - the Windows MCP server quit the moment a client connected, because an Electron GUI process there
is handed a stdin that cannot be read as a stream
Both are fixed, and the release workflow now installs and launches every artifact it builds — dmg
bundle, deb, AppImage and the NSIS installer — and requires each to answer over MCP before anything
is published.
First launch on macOS
macOS still asks about software that is not notarised: "Apple could not verify Erebus.app is free of
malware". Clear it once:
- Press Done.
- System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom.
- Press Open Anyway next to the message about Erebus, confirm with Touch ID.
- Open Erebus again and press Open.
Right-click → Open no longer works — Apple removed that shortcut in macOS 15. From a terminal:
sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Erebus.app.
Windows SmartScreen: More info → Run anyway. Linux: chmod +x the AppImage.

Erebus 0.1.0
The first public build of Erebus — a desktop client for Apache Kafka and RabbitMQ, with terminal tabs and an MCP server for Claude Code.

The builds are not code-signed. On macOS run xattr -cr /Applications/Erebus.app after installing; on Linux chmod +x the AppImage.
What is in it
Apache Kafka — cluster dashboard, brokers and their configuration, topics with the full lifecycle, a message browser
with seek by offset or timestamp, Avro through the Schema Registry, substring and sandboxed JavaScript filters and live
tail, produce with headers and compression, consumer groups with lag and offset resets, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect,
ksqlDB and ACLs.
RabbitMQ — overview, queues with peek and consume, exchanges and bindings, publishing (with routed/unrouted
feedback), connections, channels and consumers, over the management HTTP API.
Terminal — an IDE-style panel with tabs running through your login shell, and saved profiles that can auto-start on
launch, so kubectl port-forward is up before you touch anything.
MCP — Erebus --mcp serves 46 tools over stdio for Claude Code. It calls the same handlers the UI does, so
read-only clusters stay read-only for the agent as well.
Plus light/dark themes, a command palette, and secrets stored in the OS keychain.
