thunc now runs on an OpenAI API key as well as an Anthropic one.

pip install "thunc[openai]"
  • New openai backend using the OpenAI Responses API. Select it with configure(backend="openai") or THUNC_BACKEND=openai. With no backend set, an OPENAI_API_KEY alone selects it. The default model is gpt-5.5.
  • Local models: OPENAI_BASE_URL points it at any server that speaks the same API. Tested with LM Studio running openai/gpt-oss-20b; see the README's Local models section.
  • The Claude API backend has now been tested against the live API.
  • New contributor guide (CONTRIBUTING.md), Discussions, and starter issues labelled good first issue and help wanted.

Still beta: expect bugs, and the API may change.
