Inkscape SVG to Plain SVG Conversion

Convert Inkscape SVG files to standard/plain SVG while preserving SVG 2 features.

CLI Usage:

# svgm CLI
svgm --to-plain-svg inkscape.svg -o plain.svg
svgm --to-plain-svg --keep-flow-text inkscape.svg -o plain.svg

# svg-matrix CLI
svg-matrix to-plain inkscape.svg -o plain.svg

API Usage:

import { convertToPlainSVG } from '@emasoft/svg-matrix';
const plainSVG = await convertToPlainSVG(inkscapeSVG);

What gets removed:

  • sodipodi:* elements and attributes
  • inkscape:* elements and attributes
  • SVG 1.2 flowText elements
  • Namespace declarations

What gets preserved:

  • Mesh gradients and hatches (SVG 2)
  • All standard SVG elements

Run Without Installing

bunx @emasoft/svg-matrix svgm input.svg -o output.svg
bunx @emasoft/svg-matrix svg-matrix to-plain inkscape.svg -o plain.svg
