JustQuests 0.4.6

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Nov 10:59

[0.4.6] - 2026-11-01

Added

  • Ready for addons: other mods can add objective types with QuestObjective.register. The first
one is the JustQuests Create Addon, with goals that count what Create's machines really make,
such as "Press Iron Sheet". It is a separate download, so JustQuests itself stays small and still
doesn't need Create. (Requested on GitHub, #15.)

Changed

  • A client without an addon the server has no longer sees an empty quest book: only the quests that
use the addon's objectives stay off it.

JustQuests Create Addon 0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@ErikEdits ErikEdits released this 01 Nov 10:54

First version of the JustQuests Create Addon, for NeoForge 1.21.1.

Needs: JustQuests 0.4.6 or newer and Create 6.0.10, on the client and the server.

Added

  • Quest objectives for Create's machines. Each counts what one kind of machine really makes: press_item, compact_item, mix_item, mill_item, crush_item, saw_item, deploy_item, fill_item, mechanical_craft_item, wash_item, smoke_item, blast_item, haunt_item and assemble_item, all under justquests_create:. (Requested in #15.)
  • The quest book shows them in words, such as "0/16 Press Iron Sheet", with the item as the icon. English, German, Spanish, French and Japanese.
  • Who gets the progress: the player who placed the machine, wherever they are on the server. A machine without a known owner (placed before the addon, built by a schematic) counts for the nearest player within 32 blocks. An owner who is offline gets nothing.

An example datapack has one quest for every objective.

JustQuests 0.4.5

@github-actions github-actions released this 31 Oct 10:14

[0.4.5] - 2026-10-31

Added

  • have_item: a new objective that counts what the player has in the inventory, wherever it came
from - a machine of another mod (Create, Mekanism and so on), a chest or a trade. The most the
player has held at once counts, and the progress does not go back. Mod and plugin. (Requested on
    GitHub, #15.)
  • label on objectives: any objective can bring its own goal text, as a string or a per-language
map, for example "Press Iron Sheets". The quest book, the tracker and the chat show it instead of
the generated goal line. Mod and plugin. (Requested on GitHub, #15.)

Fixed

  • Abandoning a quest showed its id in the chat ("Abandoned quest: justquests:mining/iron") instead of
its title. (Reported on GitHub, #14.)

JustQuests 0.4.4

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Oct 15:15

[0.4.4] - 2026-10-29

Added

  • Alternative objectives: group. Objectives with the same "group" are alternatives, and one
of them is enough: "craft a Standard Backpack or find any backpack". Objectives without a
group are all still needed, so both can be mixed in one quest. The quest book, the tracker,
/quest list and /quest progress show "- or -" between them. Mod and plugin. (Requested on
    GitHub, #10.)
  • Unlocked quests start by themselves. When a finished quest unlocks others, they are accepted
at once, with a line in the chat. Players who would rather choose turn it off with
/quest autoaccept off or the box on the quest book's start page; they get the new quest in the
chat with an Accept button instead. Server owners set the default with autoAccept. Team quests
only get the button. Mod and plugin. (Requested on GitHub, #12.)
  • Accept all: /quest accept all and an "Accept all" button on the quest book's start page
take every quest that is available (not team quests and generated quests). Mod and plugin. (#12)
  • Fold groups in the quest book: a click on a category's (or status group's) header folds it,
so the next category is right there; an arrow shows which groups are folded, and the book
remembers them. A search still finds quests in folded groups. (Requested on GitHub, #11.)
  • A second click on the selected quest goes back to the book's start page.

Changed

  • The scroll bar of a long quest page is easier to see: a dark track with a light thumb that
shows where the page is. A click on the track jumps there. (Requested on GitHub, #6.)

Fixed

  • gain_advancement goals showed the advancement's id ("Earn advancement mypack:story/let_me_go")
instead of its title. They show the title now ("Earn advancement Please Let me go!"), also on
servers, and the id made readable for an advancement without a title. Mod and plugin. (Reported
    on GitHub, #13.)
  • The example datapack (docs/example-datapack) was shown as incompatible on Minecraft 26.x: its
pack.mcmeta now names the newer min_format/max_format fields as well. It has a new
    example, ex_group.

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Oct 10:31

[0.4.3] - 2026-10-28

Fixed

  • Quest book on Minecraft 1.21.6 and newer (Fabric 1.21.6 - 26.3, NeoForge 1.21.6 - 26.2): the
game crashed as soon as the book opened ("Can only blur once per frame") while the menu
background blur was on, which is the default. Since 1.21.6 Minecraft draws the blurred
background itself, and the book drew it a second time. Setting "Menu Background Blur" to 0 was
    the workaround. (Reported on Discord.)
  • Quest book on the same versions: the window, buttons and rows were drawn as black boxes
reaching to the top-left corner of the screen instead of the book's textures.
  • Quest book on Minecraft 26.3 (Fabric): clicks did nothing. 26.3 reads the mouse through SDL,
where the left button is 1 instead of 0.

JustQuests 0.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Oct 16:33

[0.4.2] - 2026-10-25

Added

  • Soft requirements: requires_min. Next to requires, a quest can say how many of those
quests must be done first: "requires": [16 quests], "requires_min": 12 unlocks as soon as any
12 of them are done. The quest book shows "Needs 12 of 16 quests (5 done)". (Requested on GitHub.)
  • reset_on_death: a quest with "reset_on_death": true loses its progress when the player
dies (a team quest: when any member dies). The quest book and /quest list say so, and the
player gets a message when it happens. (Requested on GitHub.)
  • Every kind once: "distinct": true on an objective counts each kind of item, block or mob
only once - consume_item with "item": "#c:foods", "count": 10 and "distinct": true
needs 10 different foods. The goal reads "(all different)". (Requested on GitHub.)

Changed

  • A quest without rewards is simply done when it is finished: no Claim button and no "Rewards
received" for nothing to claim. Mod and plugin.
  • The examples in a new custom-quests.json are only an explanation now: their keys start with
_, so they no longer show up as quests. Copy one and remove the _ to use it. Files that
already exist stay as they are. (Reported on GitHub.)

Fixed

  • Fabric: collect_item didn't count items picked up from the ground when the whole stack went
into the inventory (only a part taken by a nearly full inventory counted). NeoForge, Forge and
    the plugin were not affected.
  • The loot_table reward gave nothing on every version (the loot was rolled without the player,
which the game refuses; the server log showed "Loot-table reward failed"). Mod only; the plugin
    was not affected.
  • gain_advancement counts an advancement the player already had before taking the quest. Before,
such a quest could never be finished. Mod and plugin.
  • Quest book: quests added to or changed in custom-quests.json while the world runs show up in
the book at once (the file reloaded by itself, but the book only got the new list after a
    rejoin or /quest reload).
  • Quest book: a quest page with a long description or many objectives scrolls with the mouse
wheel instead of cutting the rest off. (Reported on GitHub.)
  • Quest book: long objective names (advancements, tags) wrap onto the next line instead of being
cut off with "...". Reward lines and choice options wrap too. (Reported on GitHub.)
  • A quest without rewards no longer shows an empty "Rewards" heading in the quest book or an empty
"Reward:" line in /quest list. (Reported on GitHub.)

JustQuests 0.4.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 14:09

[0.4.1] - 2026-10-23

Added

  • Settings for every world: config/justquests.json. Any key of a world's settings.json
set there applies to every world of the game or server and wins over the world's own file, so a
modpack can ship, for example, "generatedQuests": false. Commands can't change a key set there
and say so. The file is created with an explanation on first start. (Requested on GitHub.)
  • Folders are categories: a quest in a sub-folder of a datapack's justquests/quests/ (also
the plugin's quests/ folder, or a key like "mining/iron" in custom-quests.json) that names
no category gets the folder as its category - quests/mining/iron.json is in "mining". Deeper
folders only sort the files. (Requested on GitHub.)

Changed

  • mainQuests: false (and /quest mainquests off) now hides only the 25 built-in quests; quests
from your own datapacks stay. Before, it hid every datapack quest. Mod and plugin.
  • A category without a translation reads in chat as it does in the quest book: "mob_drops" shows as
    "Mob drops".

JustQuests 0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Oct 09:38

[0.4.0] - 2026-10-12

Added

  • Team quests: a quest with "team": true belongs to a whole team - any member takes it,
everyone's actions count, the quest book and tracker show the shared progress, and when it is
done every member gets the rewards like for their own quests (members who were offline when
they come back). A team is made with
/quest team create <name> (then invite, accept, leave, kick, info; up to 8 players),
or a player's scoreboard team (/team) counts. Mod and plugin alike; a world moving to the
    plugin brings its teams along.
  • Server plugin for Spigot, Paper and Purpur (1.19 – 1.21.11 and 26.1 – 26.3, on the plain
    Spigot API; one jar each for 1.19 – 1.20.6, 1.21 – 1.21.11 and 26.1 – 26.3): players join with a
vanilla client. The quest book is a chest menu (opened with the
quest book item new players get, or /quest, /quests, /jq), the quest tracker a boss bar.
It reads the same quests as the mod (built-in, datapacks, custom-quests.json, one file per
quest in plugins/JustQuests/quests/), has all objective and reward types, claiming, reward
choices, the commands and permission nodes, and the five languages; item, block and mob names
are translated by each player's game. A world played with the mod keeps its progress, custom
quests and generated board when it moves to a plugin server.
  • The server generator (plugin): the board of generated quests grows with the players of the
last 7 days; every player gets personal daily quests; harder weekly quests for everyone; a
weekly server goal everyone works on together, with the same reward for every helper; and
better rewards: a choice of three, a lucky bonus, a streak bonus for personal quests, loot on
weekly quests and goals, a reward multiplier, and money through an economy plugin's command.
  • Plugin extras: announcements for a new board, new weekly quests and a new server goal, with
harmless fireworks when the goal is reached; quest givers (/quest npc set [name]: the mob, villager
or armor stand you look at opens the quest book); and PlaceholderAPI placeholders
    (%justquests_completed%, %justquests_tracked%, %justquests_goal_percent% and more).
  • Minecraft 26.1 – 26.3: Fabric builds for 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3, and NeoForge
builds for 26.1.2 and 26.2 (NeoForge 26.3 follows once it leaves beta). JustQuests now has 43
builds. Minecraft 26.x needs Java 25.
  • Claim button: a finished quest now waits with its rewards until you claim them, with the
Claim button in the quest book, the [Claim rewards] button in chat, or /quest claim <id>
(/quest claim alone takes every waiting reward). The quest book shows these quests on top
under "Rewards ready", the HUD reminds you of them, and /quest progress and /quest list
mark them too. On Minecraft 1.18–1.19 (no quest book) the chat button and the command do it.
Server owners who prefer the old way set "claimRewards": false in settings.json; then
rewards arrive the moment a quest is finished, as before. A finished generated quest stays until
its rewards are claimed, also when the generator puts up a new set in the meantime.
  • Choice rewards (justquests:choice): a quest can offer several rewards of which the player
picks one when claiming: in the quest book by clicking an option, in chat with the [1] [2]
buttons, or with /quest claim <id> <number>. Quests with a choice always wait to be claimed.
    The example datapack has ex_choice.
  • HUD position button in the quest book's title bar: each click moves the tracker to the next
corner (clockwise). While you point at the button, the book shows the tracker in its corner.
  • Permissions (LuckPerms & co.): every command has a node, justquests.command.<name> for the
player commands (everyone by default) and justquests.admin.<name> for the operator commands
(operators by default). Quests can name a permission; players without it don't see the quest.
NeoForge and Forge use their permission API, the Fabric builds bundle fabric-permissions-api.
  • Six more mods for the quest generator: Applied Energistics 2, Immersive Engineering, Biomes O'
Plenty, Alex's Mobs, Tinkers' Construct and Ars Nouveau. Botania, Mekanism and the Twilight Forest
got more quests (more flowers and gear, metal blocks and steel machines, more wood, beetles and
meef). Every new target was checked against the mods' released jars.
  • settings.json gets new options added by itself, so owners see them without deleting the file.
  • Generated quests in five languages: quests from the generator now have their title,
description and reward message in English, German, French, Spanish and Japanese, and each player
reads their own game language. Item, block and mob names use the official translations of
Minecraft and of the supported mods. The built-in quests got Japanese as well.

Changed

  • Every text is translatable: the quest book, the HUD, goal and reward names, and all chat
messages of the commands now come from language files (assets/justquests/lang/), with
English, German, French, Spanish and Japanese included. Each player sees their own game
language, also on Minecraft 1.18–1.20.1. On 1.19.4 and newer, players without the mod see the
    English text.
  • The German, French and Spanish texts of the built-in quests have proper accents and use the
game's own names (for example the "Acquire Hardware" advancement).
  • Loot rewards read "Loot: simple dungeon" instead of the full loot table id; tag goals read
"any logs"; dimension goals name the vanilla dimensions ("Visit the Nether").
  • The Discord welcome no longer talks about voting on the v0.2 GUI.

Fixed

  • NeoForge 1.20.4: the mod did not load at all. Its jar only had the newer
neoforge.mods.toml, which NeoForge 20.4 does not read, and it needed Java 21. It now has
mods.toml and runs on Java 17 like Minecraft 1.20.4.
  • /quest generator status named the wrong Minecraft version on 1.21.11 and 26.x.

JustQuests 0.3.5

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Oct 07:59

[0.3.5] - 2026-10-04

Added

  • Minecraft 1.21.11 for NeoForge and Fabric. JustQuests now has 36 builds.
  • Search in the quest book: with 15 or more quests a search field appears next to the list
buttons. It looks at titles, categories and goals, so "diam" finds every quest with diamonds.
  • Pin quests to the HUD: active quests get a pin button next to "Abandon". With pins the
tracker shows only the pinned quests, without pins the newest ones as before. Finished or
abandoned quests are unpinned by themselves.
  • Mouse wheel over the quest list turns the pages.

Changed

  • What a button does now shows next to the "Quests" title while the mouse is on it.

Fixed

  • The "Abandon" button had an x drawn under its label.

JustQuests 0.3.4

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 03 Oct 21:38

[0.3.4] - 2026-10-04

Added

  • Quest tracker (HUD): your active quests and their goals in a small panel in the top-left
corner, newest first, up to three. Toggle it with H (rebindable in Controls) or the new
button in the quest book. Hidden with F1, F3 and while a menu is open.
  • Sorted quest book: the list is grouped under headers, either by category ("Combat 1/3")
or by status (Active, Available, Locked, Completed). A button switches between the two, another
hides completed quests. Page number between the arrows.
  • Pixel icons: every quest shows an item icon, in the list and next to its title. It is taken
from the first goal (the item or block, a spawn egg for mobs, a compass for places and so on),
or set with the new optional quest field "icon": "minecraft:diamond_sword". Categories and
states got their own pixel icons in the style of the book.
  • Stats page: a button in the title bar shows your progress in the book: completed and
active quests, every category with its count, your first and last completion and, on servers,
    your place on the leaderboard.

Changed

  • Locked quests are now marked in the book: if a quest needs another one first it shows a lock,
"Needs: " and a disabled button. Repeatable quests on cooldown show a clock and when
    they are available again.
  • The quest book window is 32 pixels wider so titles fit next to the icons.
  • Goal lines read "5/8 Mine Iron Ore" instead of "5/8 Mine 8x Iron Ore"; tags read "any logs".
  • Book and HUD options are saved in config/justquests-client.json.
  • A completed quest shows its goals as done and "Rewards received" (rewards are still paid out
the moment a quest completes; a claim button is planned for 0.4.0). It used to show 0/x.
