First tagged release of FreeFlight API: free, self-hosted live flight tracking.

Highlights

  • Merges three volunteer ADS-B networks (adsb.lol, airplanes.live, adsb.fi) with OpenSky's global snapshot
  • Nearby, bounding-box, world, military, emergency, squawk and aircraft-type queries
  • /v1/track/{callsign}: live position, route, airline, aircraft details and photo
  • Server-Sent Events stream, live Leaflet map, OpenSky- and ADSBExchange-compatible endpoints
  • Polite by design: per-network pacing, circuit breakers, request coalescing and a grid cache
  • MCP server, CLI and Docker image

New in this release

  • Live demo GIF in the README, recorded by the new Demo GIF workflow: real aircraft around London, a track popup, then all of Europe
  • scripts/record_demo.py to re-record it; it refuses to save a GIF if no aircraft come back
