OmniSearch v0.1.14 is a major release that expands the desktop search experience and introduces the first official OmniSearch Android companion app.
This release adds deeper content search, improved file previews, secure local-network Android pairing, remote desktop search from mobile, bidirectional file transfer, duplicate management, and a standalone Android local file explorer.
Desktop Updates
Expanded Content Search and Highlighting
The desktop content search engine now provides better in-file search support. When OmniSearch finds a match inside a document, the preview pane highlights the matching text with surrounding context, making it easier to locate relevant content without opening the file in another app.
Built-in File Previewer
OmniSearch now includes an integrated side-by-side previewer for text files, JSON, source code, logs, and other readable documents. Preview text can be selected and copied directly from the app.
OmniSearch Android App v1.0
This release includes the first official OmniSearch Android companion app. The Android app connects to the desktop over a private local network, enabling remote desktop search, file browsing, file transfer, duplicate cleanup, and local Android file management.
Secure Local Pairing
Android sync is designed for trusted private Wi-Fi/LAN use.
- QR-based pairing: The phone connects by scanning a QR code generated by the desktop app.
- Encrypted WebSocket transport: Sync uses
wss://with a self-signed desktop certificate and certificate pinning from the QR pairing data. - Manual desktop approval: New phones must be approved on the desktop before file data is exposed.
- Rate-limited pairing attempts: Pairing attempts are rate-limited to reduce repeated unauthorized attempts.
- Session path validation: Remote file actions are limited to paths issued through the current approved search or duplicate-scan session.
Remote Desktop Search
Search your PC from the Android app using the desktop indexing engine. Results are returned in real time and can be previewed, opened on the PC, revealed in Windows Explorer, pinned, or downloaded to the phone.
Remote Directory Navigation
Browse desktop drives and folders from Android, inspect file metadata, open files on the PC, and reveal files in Windows Explorer.
Bidirectional File Transfer
- Download desktop files to Android from search results, pinned files, or remote browsing.
- Upload Android files to the desktop through chunked WebSocket transfer.
- Send files from Android’s system share sheet directly to OmniSearch.
Remote Duplicate Search
Start duplicate scans on the desktop from Android, review duplicate groups on the phone, and send cleanup requests back to the PC with Recycle Bin support.
Android Local File Explorer
The Android app also works as a standalone local file manager, with category browsing, internal/external storage navigation, multi-select actions, favorites, recycle-bin style recovery, and media/document previews.
