Sable Markdown Writer 0.8.0

Sable Markdown Writer 0.8.0 adds manuscript export, name highlighting, and a disk-image download.

• Export your manuscript. In a Fiction Project, press Export… on the Manuscript tab (or File → Export Manuscript…, ⇧⌘E) to turn every chapter, in the order you arranged them, into one PDF, EPUB, Word (.docx), or Markdown file. Pick which chapters to include, add a title page, and choose a Manuscript look (Courier-style, double spaced, running header, ready for editors) or a Book look (justified serif, page numbers). US Letter and A4 are supported. The PDF has a clickable chapter outline. File → Export This Document… exports just the page you have open.
• Names & places highlighting. Character, location, and world-note names take a color and a soft shimmer, a band of light drifting through the letters (strength and speed are sliders; Reduce Motion is respected). Characters are found by full name, first name, last name, file name, and aliases; locations and world notes match the whole phrase only, so "Academy" won't light up "Highlandsburg Academy". Turn characters, locations, and world notes on or off separately in Settings → Highlights, or everything at once with View → Highlight Names & Places.
• Settings, tidied. Settings is now a wider window with General, Writing, Highlights, and Review tabs.
• Export at the bottom of the writing desk, always within reach.
• New Sable logo.
• Download as a disk image. Releases now include a .dmg that opens with the app next to an Applications shortcut, so installing is a single drag. Automatic updates still work as before.

Sable Markdown Writer 0.6.1 refines the writing desk and toolbar and fixes file switching.

• The Writing Desk now browses nested folders. Clicking a Markdown file switches the active document in the same window, with macOS save, discard, and cancel choices when needed.

• Automatic writing tabs are disabled. Control-click a file to open it beside your draft instead. The parallel pane begins in a clean formatted view and can be edited and saved in place.

• New writers begin with a blank document and choose a writing folder, with an optional editable Markdown guide and cloud-folder recommendations.

• Five themes, fiction-oriented font presets, custom fonts, zoom, optional pinch-to-zoom, paragraph focus, and a top-edge toolbar make the page easier to shape around your work.

• The writing desk can be shown with a two-finger horizontal trackpad gesture. The sentence-structure color picker no longer changes or crashes the Markdown editor.

• Fixes: switching files no longer closes and reopens the window or leaves full screen. The top toolbar and the writing desk now slide in and out smoothly.

• Settings can regenerate the Sable guide. The app no longer opens a file picker at launch; it reopens your last document.

• New Chalk theme (graphite slate with a soft edge gradient), and a darker bottom bar in Graphite, Midnight, and Chalk.

• Paragraph focus now fades text gradually with distance from what you're writing. The classic even dimming is still available in Writing Style.

• The top toolbar is compact again, and every tool names itself and its shortcut when you rest the pointer on it.

• Fiction Projects (first steps): create a project with a ready-made folder structure, see only the project once you're inside it, add chapters, characters, locations, and world notes from templates, and convert a project back to a regular folder at any time. Characters, locations, and world notes can float over the page as cards that snap to a corner, pin open or shrink to a tab, and carry a picture. Everything stays ordinary Markdown.

• A document open beside your draft now scrolls and zooms on its own; scaling one no longer resizes the other.

• Fiction Projects: the Manuscript folder is always pinned and red by default, a visible Leave button exits a project, projects are listed apart from ordinary folders, and character cards can be resized freely and have their portraits cropped.

• Every new Fiction Project starts with a Start Here guide covering how projects work and how to customize them.

• Categories (School, Work, Hobbies…) let you group folders in the writing folder by dragging them onto a heading, with collapse, color, and reordering.

• A Manuscript tab in Fiction Projects shows your total word count, an optional goal with progress, and every chapter with its length. Drag chapters to rearrange them; the order is saved in the project without renaming or changing any file.

• You can select several files and folders at once (⌘-click, ⇧-click, ⇧-arrows, ⌘A) and move them to the Trash together, with one Undo. Move to Trash now works on the file you have open, too.

• Chapters can be dragged into a new order in the Files tab's Manuscript folder as well as in the Manuscript tab.

• Scene tags: tag the location and characters in a chapter and see them as a quiet strip of chips while you write. Click a chip to open its card without leaving the page. Choose from your cards, or create one for a name that doesn't have one yet. The strip fades while you type and can sit at the bottom, in a corner, or be turned off.

• A + on the Manuscript, Characters, Locations, and World folders adds a chapter, character, location, or world note.

• Scroll past the end (Writing Style → Scrolling): room to scroll so the line you're writing can rest in the middle of the window, or an option that keeps it centered as you type.

• Scene-tag chips take the color of their card, and in paragraph focus the strip and collapsed card tabs dim until you point at them.

• Creating a character or location no longer opens its card automatically.

New Quill 0.5 adds in-app update checks through Sparkle, with signed downloads and a choice of when to install. Your Markdown files remain separate from application updates.
