Release list
CheevoDeck 0.9.1
This one is a follow-up to the quality of life improvements in 0.9.0 and aims to iron out those pesky bugs! Both Tracked and Notes pages had some strange behavior going on, but no worries, the infrastructure has improved drastically. I also added some very minor quality of life improvements as well, such as changing the formatting of Tracked and Game Notes categories. Now, by default, it no longer is in all caps and now matches whatever case you type. If you liked the old style, you are able to change it back in options. See below for more!
Tracked Page
- Fixed the cursor vanishing after editing a note.
- Changing an item's tag now leaves the cursor in the category you were already in, instead of following the item over to its new one. If you're tagging a lot of items in one go, this saves you walking back to your place every time.
- Fixed the page shifting under you while you scroll up through categories.
- Notes are no longer cut off at 300 characters. The editor always let you type 500, so now it reflects that.
- The Completed tag no longer shows up in your tag suggestions.
Game Notes Page
- The same cursor and page-shifting fixes as Tracked above.
- Changing a note's tag also leaves the cursor where you were instead of following the note.
Options
- Added Formatting settings for header case. Tracked Header Style and Notes Header Style control your tag categories on those two pages, where Typed shows the tag exactly as you typed it. Capitalized shows the Steam default capitalized headers. Also, General Header Style covers every other header. View them in Quick Menu > Options > Display & Notifications tab under Formatting.
Miscellaneous Fixes
- Fixed categories coming back collapsed when they should have been open. It only sorted itself out if you closed and reopened the panel, and it could happen on Tracked, Other Games, Game Notes and Dolphin Mapper.
Alright, I hope this helps improve your achievement hunting journey even more! I'm working on a very special new feature that will most likely be included in the next update. See you around!
CheevoDeck 0.9.0
This is the biggest one yet! And it's all quality of life improvements across the board. Phew, where do I even begin? The most notable improvements are traversal. Now when you edit something, such as tracked notes, when you come back from the edit, you now land right back on the thing you edited; no more starting at the top of the page regardless.
Tracked Page
- Custom tagged categories now sort alphabetically.
- Added the ability to expand and collapse tagged categories.
- Editing notes now lands you right back on the note you were editing in the list instead of moving you to the top of the page.
- Fixed an issue where reordering caused strange behaviors with the cursor.
Game Notes Page
- Custom tagged categories now sort alphabetically.
- Added the ability to expand and collapse tagged categories.
- Category headers now show how many notes there are.
- Editing notes now lands you right back on the note you were editing in the list instead of moving you to the top of the page.
- Adding a new note will now select it once added to the list.
- Fixed an issue where reordering caused strange behaviors with the cursor.
- Added a button shortcut in the note editor to instantly mark the note as complete.
- Added a button shortcut in the note editor to delete the note; requires double-press.
Dolphin Mapper
- Modified the expand/collapse buttons to be consistent with that of Tracked and Notes pages to declutter the UI.
- Editing mappings now puts you exactly where you left off before editing it; not at the top of the page.
- Adding a new mapping will now select the new mapping once added to the list. No more warping to the top of the page.
- Selecting the help button now lands you back on the help button when coming back from the help dialog.
- Fixed an issue where reordering caused strange behaviors with the cursor.
File Watcher, SMB Shares, and Cheevo Check
- Improvements to traversal by remembering the last button when going from the page to a modal dialog.
Guide Page
- Moved the exit button prompt and glyph to last, above the viewer. Since it wraps to the second row, this ensures people can see it.
Main Menu
- Improved the aesthetics of the tabbed pane.
- Modified the collapsible control for Players Near You to be consistent with the changes above.
Profile Page
- A green dot now shows next to your friend's status if they are online, based on if they were active within 15 minutes.
Game Info Page
- Achievement Sort and Filter toggles now persist and remember your last settings.
Miscellaneous Fixes
- Fixed lists that could stop growing while you scrolled.
- Fixed a small window where if A was pressed quickly after exiting a modal to a page, it would trigger odd behavior.
- Fixed issues where deleting a category's last mapping had undesired behavior.
- Fixed UTC dating anomalies.
- Fixed overly large button glyphs, specifically in notifications and comments.
This should really enhance your achievement hunting experience. Have at it, fellow cheevo hunters!
CheevoDeck 0.8.8
The folder chooser is the headline this time with a huge QOL update. CheevoDeck had been using Decky's chooser for Cheevo Check, File Watcher, patch downloads and update downloads for quite some time. I've written my own to replace it everywhere, which includes many user-friendly additions, such as better focus, prompt text support, and easily accessible buttons.
What's New
- A more user-friendly folder chooser has been swapped in.
- The button prompts for comments, notifications, and a few other utilities that were hardcoded are now dynamic based on which controller you are using, and now show the proper glyph based on this. This now makes it consistent with the rest of CheevoDeck.
- The update notification now includes a select prompt for download/install options.
- Further made Cheevo Check more user-friendly.
CheevoDeck 0.8.7
This update is a small one, but includes something I've been meaning to add to Steam Library Badges. In addition to showing your achievement progress, if completed or mastered, it will now show that status.
What's New
- The Steam Library Badges now show Completed and Mastered status.
- Added info text that shows in the intermediary loading window if connection to RA is weak.
CheevoDeck 0.8.6
This focuses mainly on making Cheevo Check much easier to get started with, improving the help text as well as decluttering the area around the Scan button. Also, first-timers are now able to turn on Steam library badges at the setup page.
What's New
- The Steam Library Badge can be switched on right from the setup page now.
- The Guide has moved out of the Scan section and into its own Help section, further down the Cheevo Check page. It just seemed weird that I had it up there.
What's Fixed
- The help text across Cheevo Check has been drastically improved. Less jargon, more meaningful explaining! The result explanations in particular were doing a lot of explaining about why a thing happened. What you probably want to know is whether your game is supported or not! I do have whys, but not unnecessary ones.
- The Scan and Offline Scan buttons now tell you what they actually do, including the part where EmuDeck and ES-DE libraries are already named correctly, so you are completely fine with folder naming if you use either.
- The desktop updater is called Update CheevoDeck now. The old name was too long and got cut off, and anyone who already has the old one will have it renamed automatically the next time CheevoDeck starts.
CheevoDeck 0.8.5
This one is mostly repairs and refinements for Cheevo Check and the Steam library badges feature.
What's New
- The About button in the Quick Menu now shows a small, glowing dot when an update is available.
What's Fixed
- Cheevo Check recognizes the rest of EmuDeck's ROM folder names now, including the regional ones. This allows full coverage and integration with libraries for users who use EmuDeck.
- For Cheevo Check, cue sheets are read properly now, instead of using the old educated guess algorithm. Single .bin games were sometimes ignored, but not anymore!
- The library badge waits a little longer for RetroAchievements before it gives up, so a slow connection is more likely to show your progress, instead of the fallback achievement count.
- The library badge no longer flashes the previous game's progress for a moment when you go straight from one game page to another.
CheevoDeck 0.8.4
This is a smaller update compared to the last, but it aims at better accessibility and assistance at the first screen. It also focuses a little bit on Dolphin Mapper.
What's New
- You can pick your language right on the setup screen now before you enter anything. No more having to go to options to change it after the intro.
- A Getting Started button was added to the startup page which opens a guided walkthrough.
- Dolphin Mapper supports the Xbox 360 wireless controller and its dongle. Fourteen starter mappings have been added.
- A Help button was added to the Dolphin Mapper page leading to a small tutorial.
What's Fixed
- Fixed a problem where the language picked during setup was wiped during the onboarding process. It also survives a settings reset now.
- Dolphin Mapper tags are sorted alphabetically now.
- The save button in the mapping form moved to the left for convenience.
CheevoDeck 0.8.3
This update is quite a hefty one, with one highlight being the new updater feature. You can now choose to install an updater to be placed on your Desktop upon first-time onboarding or by manually pressing the Add Updater to Desktop button in the About page. This adds another option alongside downloading the ZIP or copying the URL to install. All it takes is a simple double click of the launcher in Desktop mode, and everything is updated.
The next major change is the addition of arcade games support to Cheevo Check, as well as Steam library badges that, when enabled, show a badge on your library game pages with your achievement progress. You can interact with it to be brought straight to a detailed info page for the game. Because it relies on Cheevo Check to obtain hashes from your game library to determine if supported on RetroAchievements, you must run a Cheevo Check scan of your whole library. In EmuDeck, that would be your /home/deck/Emulation/roms folder, which the scan option opens up to by default. Once your files are hashed and verified, each of those games will display a badge. If you add any new games to your library, run the scan again; luckily it becomes faster as it caches your local hashes by default.
New
- The CheevoDeck Updater. A button in About installs it to your desktop, and there's a toggle for it during first-time setup.
- RA badges on your Steam library pages for non-Steam games, showing achievement progress. Select one to jump to Game Info.
- Arcade support in Cheevo Check, which is what makes arcade badges possible.
- Developer messages. If a SteamOS or client update breaks something, I can push a message straight to your notifications with a workaround until there's a proper fix.
- A welcome message after first-time setup, covering the basics of getting around.
- View Style joins the first-time setup dialogs, so you can pick Default or Compact alongside the social and scaling presets.
- Darken Screen on Cheevo Check and File Watcher, so an OLED panel can rest through a long scan.
- Visit RA is now available both as a mapped shortcut and as a Quick Menu button.
- A scroll indicator in the text viewer, and its default zoom is down to 130.
Fixed
- A long username with no spaces in it pushed the title strip off to the right on Friend Profile, Want to Play and All Games.
- Finishing or cancelling a Cheevo Check scan left the page with no focus at all.
- A factory reset made the What's New card announce a release you'd been running for weeks.
- An update found while you were still entering your credentials lost its notification, because there was no account for it to live in yet. It waits for one now.
- An archived What's New card showed the notes for whatever version you had installed instead of the release it was announcing.
- The About page gave the new version number twice, once in a smaller font under Check for Updates.
- The up-to-date message mentioned a force option that isn't there.
- Truncated comment cards were missing their A prompt.
- L1 and R1 made no sound when cycling a mapped shortcut, though A did.
- The save and add buttons in the credential modals moved to the left, to match everything else.
- The This Game tab is now Current Game.
CheevoDeck 0.8.2
Two fixes to the About page.
- The Download ZIP button opened the folder picker and then quietly did nothing. It saves the file now, and tells you when it has.
- Check for Updates no longer gets pushed down the page when an update is available.
CheevoDeck 0.8.1
This is the first public release of CheevoDeck.
CheevoDeck is a full RetroAchievements tracking and management system with heavy emphasis on portability within Steam's Quick Access Menu, as well as integrating rich social features. Not only does it offer classic achievement tracking, but it also has advanced tracking, with the ability to add achievements to a certain list, where you can add notes, tag & organize, view info, and more.
Other features include:
- Per-game notes, reminders and goals
- GameFAQs guides
- Social feeds
- Discussions and community events
- Subscribing to game or achievement comment sections
- And much more
For quite some time CheevoDeck has been a private and personal project that has undergone rigorous testing amongst family and friends. I've decided that it is time for others to enjoy it, and will continue to push further updates improving it in every way I can.
