FOU V2.0.0

FOU V2 is a major upgrade from the original local cryptocurrency watchlist.

V2 introduces live cryptocurrency market data, symbol validation, a hosted backend, improved reliability, and cross-platform builds for Windows, Linux, and macOS.

What's New

  • Live cryptocurrency prices
  • Cryptocurrency symbol validation
  • Add multiple coins in one session
  • Duplicate protection
  • Portfolio sorting by market-cap rank
  • Improved formatting for very small cryptocurrency prices
  • Hosted FOU backend for CoinGecko requests
  • CoinGecko API credentials kept out of the distributed application
  • Backend caching and rate limiting
  • Improved network and backend error handling
  • Save-file structure validation
  • Safe recovery from missing, malformed, or corrupted save files
  • Windows, Linux, and macOS builds
  • Automated cross-platform builds with GitHub Actions

Downloads

Windows

Download FOU.exe, place it inside a folder where you want FOU to store its save data, and run it.

Linux

Download FOU-Linux.tar.gz, extract it, then run:

./FOU

macOS

Download FOU-macOS.tar.gz, extract it, then run:

./FOU

Save Data

FOU stores portfolio data locally inside:

save_portfolio.json

The save file is created beside the FOU executable.

Internet Requirement

FOU V2 requires an internet connection to retrieve cryptocurrency information through the hosted FOU backend.

The backend currently uses a free hosting service, so the first startup after a period of inactivity may take longer while the backend wakes up.

Testing

  • Windows build: manually tested
  • Linux x86-64 build: manually tested
  • macOS build: successfully built through GitHub Actions, but not yet manually runtime-tested on a physical Mac

Notes

FOU is a cryptocurrency watchlist. It does not execute trades or manage real cryptocurrency assets.

FOU V2 will continue to receive fixes and improvements based on testing and user feedback.
