Warning

Captail 0.2.3 is an early public preview. Bugs and hardware-specific issues are expected.

Added

  • Continuous recording: Switch between Instant Replay and Recording from the main dashboard. Recording mode writes a normal continuous file, keeps automatic game detection, and hides replay-only buffer controls.
  • Replay library controls: Filter clips by game or capture mode, select several clips, and move a selection to the Recycle Bin after one confirmation.
  • Accent themes: Choose mint, blue, violet, rose, or amber and use the selected accent consistently across Captail and its recording indicator.
  • Extended hotkeys: Bind F13-F24 keys from keyboards and macro layers, including while a fullscreen application owns input.

Improved

  • Replay player: Resize the window, browse every saved clip in the sidebar, move between clips, delete clips, control volume with the wheel, slider, or keyboard, and use a true fullscreen view with auto-hiding controls.
  • Playback compatibility: High-frame-rate HEVC and AV1 previews prefer D3D11 hardware decoding, drop late frames under load, fall back to a compatible preview proxy when needed, and mix every selected audio track for playback.
  • Capture fidelity: Non-native game resolutions stretch to the configured canvas, and HDR Game Capture initializes explicit tone-mapping levels instead of producing black frames.
  • Capture recovery: Captail can replace a hung capture process after graphics-device loss and rebuild the recording pipeline automatically.
  • Game-aware audio and folders: Detected-game audio follows the active game across output devices, and a bundled game catalog gives per-game folders friendlier names.
  • Fullscreen feedback: Save, recording, and recovery notifications follow the active monitor and keep their topmost position over fullscreen applications.
  • Safer settings changes: Changing the replay folder or per-game organization no longer restarts active capture.
  • Borderless desktop capture: Desktop capture uses the automatic OBS path, while the Microsoft Store package requests Windows borderless-capture capability.

Fixed

  • Fixed About-menu GitHub, bug-report, and feature-request links doing nothing in packaged and Portable builds.
  • Fixed clip switching leaving the embedded player black or unresponsive.
  • Fixed microphone and other selected tracks being silent during multi-track preview.
  • Removed the light native line around the borderless player and reduced flicker while resizing it.
  • Fixed Recording mode status text, game detection, notifications, tray actions, and output naming using Instant Replay wording or behavior.
  • Fixed stretched 4:3 games being recorded as a small image in one corner of the output.

Downloads

  • Installer (recommended): Captail-0.2.3-Setup-win-x64.exe includes Captail, .NET, libobs, FFmpeg, and an uninstaller.
  • Portable: extract the entire Captail-0.2.3-Portable-win-x64.zip before launching Captail.exe.

Compatibility and feedback

Captail is tested on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 and RTX 50 series. Older NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel hardware needs broader public testing. Report problems through GitHub Issues.

Release binaries are not Authenticode-signed yet. Windows may show an unknown-publisher or SmartScreen warning. Use SHA256SUMS.txt and GitHub build provenance to verify the download.
