StreamXR 0.78.9 (Early Access)
π₯½ StreamXR 0.78.9: Early Access
YouTube, all around you. π¬β¨ This is the first public release of StreamXR, a free and open-source Chrome extension that turns YouTube into a full VR experience on your Steam Frame. 360Β° and VR180 videos wrap around you, regular videos play on a giant cinema screen, and you can browse, search, subscribe, like, save and read comments without ever taking your headset off.
π What's inside
- π₯ Every kind of video: 360Β° and VR180 (detected automatically), and a cinema screen you can curve, resize and push away, with rounded corners and an ambient glow. Ultrawide and IMAX ratios fill it just like in the theater. ποΈ
- ποΈ A controls panel made for VR: a seek bar with chapters, preview frames and YouTube's Most Replayed curve; quality up to 8K and 60 fps, speed, volume, π¬ captions, π Save, Subscribe, Like, playlists and live streams.
- ποΈ Panels around the video, never on top of it: Description, Comments and Channel on the left; Up Next, Explore and You on the right; π Search above, with a VR keyboard.
- π Start from any page: a VR button in YouTube's top bar, so you can jump in from Home and pick something to watch right inside VR.
- π¨ Make it yours: YouTube or Material 3 colors, glass panels, panel size, the Safe Zone, auto-hide timing, laser steadiness, keyboard layout.
- π English and EspaΓ±ol, with more languages welcome (no coding needed).
- π Private by design: one permission (youtube.com), no servers, no analytics, no tracking.

β© Want to skip ads from inside VR? Also load the skip-helper folder: it's a tiny optional extension (why it's separate). YouTube Premium members don't need it.
π©Ή Good to know
This is early access: it already works every day (I know because I've used it every day!), but it's still growing fast. Tested on Windows + Chrome + SteamVR + Valve Steam Frame (streamed from your PC) only; other headsets are untested, and running natively in the Frame's own browser is on the roadmap. StreamXR reads YouTube's own page, so when YouTube changes something, a feature can break for a while. See the Known issues.
