WinGet Studio now looks after winget itself, uninstalls the per-user programs it used to refuse, and every message follows the theme.
Coming from v1.11.1: open Settings and press Check for updates. In v1.11.1 the automatic check at startup never ran (see Fixes), so this version will not show up on its own. Installed with winget, use
winget upgrade FedeB2160.WinGetStudio.
winget, installed and kept up to date
If winget is missing, WinGet Studio no longer says so and closes: it offers to install it. It first registers the App Installer that comes with Windows, which takes seconds and covers a new profile or another administrator account. If there is none, as in Windows Sandbox, LTSC or Server, it downloads App Installer and its dependencies from github.com/microsoft/winget-cli, checks them against the published SHA-256 and installs them.
Settings now has an App Installer (winget) entry with its version. Where the Microsoft Store keeps App Installer up to date, the entry says so and links to the Store. Elsewhere an Update to vX.Y.Z button appears when GitHub has a newer winget release.
Per-user programs uninstall again
winget refuses to uninstall per-user programs (installer types exe, inno, nullsoft, burn and portable) from an elevated app, with 0x8A15007D, and WinGet Studio always runs elevated. Now it repeats the uninstall without elevation, through a one-off scheduled task, and a console window shows while it runs. If the app was elevated with another administrator account, those programs belong to that account: it does not retry, and the log says why (issue #12).
Messages in the app's style
Every confirmation and message is now a dialog in the app's own style, with its title bar dark in the dark theme, centred on the window, which dims behind it. Enter still picks No on every confirmation, and Esc or the close button answer No as well. In Settings, Check for updates and Check at startup sit above both entries, and the update buttons have room around their text.
The README has screenshots in both themes, and the antivirus troubleshooting moved to its own page, docs/TROUBLESHOOTING.md, updated for the installer.
Fixes
- The automatic update check at startup runs again. Since v1.9.0 it stopped silently, because the startup scan had already made the app busy, so a new version showed up only after pressing Check for updates.
- The update buttons in Settings now have room around their text: the button template ignored their padding.
