ExitEcho v0.4.0

ExitEcho v0.4.0 updates the Windows utility without changing how leftover processes are detected or ended.

Changes since v0.3.0

  • Migrated the app, Core, and CLI to .NET 10 and aligned their version numbers.
  • Added OLED Black, Graphite, and Midnight, bringing the theme selector to six choices including System default.
  • Smoothed Pause/Resume and other UI transitions, including rapid repeated actions and Reduced Motion behavior.
  • Added a compact recent-activity view and event status steps in History and Details.
  • Fixed MainWindow layout when Ignored apps expands, and refreshed the four README screenshots.
  • Expanded CI checks for ignore rules, legacy JSON, portable publish, and assembly versions.

Download and verification

The portable x64 archive is ExitEcho-v0.4.0-win-x64.zip. Extract it and run ExitEcho.exe; no installer is required.

SHA-256: 97B830323DA72CB406F4FC97251A8AF9AAA01FB7B3E4807B4B36EB8103F0B254

The EXE is unsigned. The SignPath Foundation application was not approved. This build was tested on Windows 11 x64; ExitEcho has not been tested on Windows 10. Microsoft's .NET 10 support for Windows 10 is limited to supported LTSC/Enterprise editions and does not by itself verify ExitEcho compatibility.

ExitEcho cannot determine whether background activity is intentional. It never ends processes automatically; End leftovers requires confirmation.

ExitEcho v0.3.0

This release improves how ExitEcho presents leftover process events. Detection and manual process controls remain unchanged.

Changes

  • Deduplicates notifications for the same app and refreshes the open card with the latest process list, count, and RAM.
  • Shows at most three notifications at once. Additional notifications wait in a queue; visible cards move smoothly when one closes.
  • Respects the Windows Reduced Motion setting and refines the native UI transitions.
  • Fixes opening History and cleans up the Main, Notification, Details, and Settings UI.

ExitEcho v0.2.0

ExitEcho is a local Windows 10/11 x64 utility that reports related processes still running after an app's visible windows close.

What's new

  • Ignore app suppresses future leftover notifications for the whole app.
  • Ignore process in Details excludes only the selected process for that app. Other related processes remain visible, and End leftovers applies only to those shown after confirmation.
  • Both rule types can be reviewed and removed under Ignored apps. Existing ignored.json app rules continue to load.
  • If the app's EXE path is unavailable, a process rule can be based on its app name; ExitEcho labels this less precise scope before saving it.

Download

Download ExitEcho-v0.2.0-win-x64.zip, extract the folder, and run ExitEcho.exe. No installer or administrator rights are required.

SHA-256 (ExitEcho-v0.2.0-win-x64.zip): c4f96b204b98aee5e2d55b3e0e200b63b94a23840146ad27f1686d64d976e0e5

Limitations

ExitEcho observes apps with visible top-level windows. Inaccessible, short-lived, or detached processes may be missed. It does not automatically determine whether a background process is intentional, and it never ends processes automatically.
