Footprints
Starting with An Extra Touch 0.0.13, footprints, armor movement sounds, and rain footstep audio have moved to Past Footsteps. Install Past Footsteps on the client for these features and material footsteps. AET and Past Footsteps work independently; Past Footsteps is not required for AET's remaining features.
Configuration guide · All categories
| Feature | Where to configure it now |
|---|---|
| Footprints, surface filters, size, lifetime, and opacity | Past Footsteps: Footprints menu and footprint profiles. |
| Footwear and armor movement sounds | Past Footsteps: Footwear and armor movement menu and equipment profiles. |
| Wet footstep and landing accents in rain | Past Footsteps: Rain footsteps menu. |
| Armor equip and unequip sounds | AET: the retained armor settings in Sounds. |
AET continues to provide held-item selection, swing and shield sounds, bow drawstrings, thunder, water and lava effects, wetness drips, camera behavior, and gameplay features. Rain footstep audio is separate from AET's rain ripples and water-entry splashes.
Open Mods > PastFootsteps > Config for ordinary options. Past Footsteps stores these in config/pastfootsteps/pastfootsteps.cfg, with structured overrides in config/pastfootsteps/profiles/.
Settings are not imported automatically from config/anextratouch.cfg. Old footprints and rain_splash entries in AET no longer control these effects. Configure them in Past Footsteps instead. Its shared contact and gait system controls sound and footprint timing, so the old stride and stance settings are not direct replacements for its profiles. Its footprint cap also behaves differently: zero disables prints, rather than allowing unlimited prints.
AET retains armorSoundsEnabled, armorSoundVolume, armorDefaultCategory, armorCategoryOverrides, and armorSoundEntityWhitelist for equip and unequip sounds. The old armorSoundMode setting was removed; movement sound options belong to Past Footsteps.
Past Footsteps works on the client on any server. Installing Past Footsteps on the server is optional and improves remote motion information. Installing AET on the server no longer supplies armor or rain walking events.
Current AET clients retain compatibility with older AET servers, but ignore the retired walking events. This does not affect AET's remaining server features.
This page keeps the former Footprints URL so older links lead to the migration instructions.
