v12.0 Beta — UASM CLI, Debian support, launcher fixes, and unified Linux runtime
v12.0 Beta
This is a big jump from the older v9.4 GitHub release and brings the project up to the current v12.0 Beta line. This release reflects the newer unified Linux-focused architecture, first-class CLI work, Debian support, and a lot of cleanup across the runtime, dashboard tooling, and install/update flow.
Highlights
Unified Linux runtime
The project now keeps a single runtime model:
- the Python monitor is the main runtime on both Fedora and Debian
- the systemd service runs that same Python runtime in the background
- the GUI tools remain optional and are launched manually when wanted, instead of being tied to the core runtime path.
New UASM CLI
This release formalizes UASM as the main CLI identity and adds a real command structure around the monitor backend. Available commands now include:
fetchstatusupdatedoctorconfig
Legacy one-shot flags are still supported, and RayFetch remains available as an optional fetch-style personality on the same backend.
Debian support
The install/docs flow now properly covers Debian alongside Fedora, with Linux Mint aligned to the Debian path. The project now documents and supports Debian package/install basics, headless usage, and CLI-first workflows much more cleanly than before.
Direct launcher support
This release also documents and installs launcher commands into ~/.local/bin, including:
uasmuasm-fetchuasmfetchrayfetchuasm-update
That means the CLI can be used directly without always typing python3 ... or running from the repo folder.
What changed since the older public release line
Since the older v9.4 release, the project has gained a lot, including:
- simultaneous USB + Wi-Fi monitor output and improved Wi-Fi pairing/discovery workflows
- layered config handling and better local/shared config separation
- a much more advanced Java Control Center / dashboard flow
- board/profile/page controls and better flashing/config persistence
- RayFetch one-shot CLI modes and later a full UASM CLI structure
- storage target selection and storage I/O activity support
- dashboard efficiency/performance work to reduce unnecessary redraw cost
- Debian install guidance and launcher/install/update improvements
- shared versioning across Python, Java, Arduino headers, and docs.
Notable recent milestones included in this release line
v11.8 Beta
- added first-class CLI subcommands to
UniversalArduinoMonitor.py - added compatibility launchers for CLI usage
- expanded
uasm doctor - reduced runtime overhead with caching for storage target discovery, storage I/O recomputation, IP lookups, and GPU line parsing
- improved Debian guidance and package coverage.
v12.0 Beta
- bumped project version references to
v12.0 Beta - updated install guidance so Fedora and Debian are presented side-by-side
- documented and automated launcher setup so
uasmcommands can be used directly after install/update - updated install/update scripts to refresh CLI launchers in
~/.local/bin.
Notes
- This is still a Beta release.
- Fedora remains an important desktop target, but Debian is now a real supported path for the same runtime.
- GUI remains optional; headless/server installs can use the Python runtime and UASM CLI directly.
Thanks for testing
This release includes a lot of real-world cleanup driven by testing across Fedora desktop and Debian server environments, especially around CLI behavior, launcher installation, and keeping the runtime lightweight.
