Tasker 2.0 beta 2 is here!
A message to HackClub reviewers
Last time this project was rejected for the following reason: hi! while i was testing your app. the core plugins didn't seem to actually do anything. while we acknowledge that it's a wip project, we expect core plugins to work as it's shipped for over 100 hours. This issue has been addressed by creating an external plugin you can actually use in your daily life, so you can imagine how Tasker will work when more plugins are available. The plugin in question is the Focus plugin. You can either click the hyperlink and follow the installation instruction on that page, or read below to install it:
Installing the Focus plugin
The version of Tasker you downloaded, has the Focus plugin integrated as a core plugin so you don't have to download anything and setup is minimal. (That being said you are free to download it the normal way with the manual install instructions below). To enabled the integrated version of the plugin:
- Open Tasker in go to plugins (
⌘Por click the puzzle icon on the bottom-left) - Find the plugin called "FocusCore" and enable it using the toggle on it's right
- Going back to the main view (
escor the X button on the top-right) you should see a new tab called "FocusCore" the plugin is now installed!
Manual install
If you want to follow the actual install process follow the steps below:
- Download the plugin file by clicking here
- Open Tasker and go to the plugins view by (
⌘Por by clicking the puzzle icon on the bottom-left) - Open the plugin folder (
⌘⇧Oor by clicking the folder icon on the bottom-right) - Unzip the file you downloaded and place its contents (
Focus) inside the file you opened on step 3 - Inside the
pluginsfolder you should now have a folder namedFocus - Go back to Tasker and refresh with
⌘⇧Ror by clicking the circling arrows icon on the bottom-right - The Focus plugin should appear under "Disabled", enable it by clicking on its toggle
What to try out
Now that you have the focus plugin installed, when going back to the the main view you should see the new "Focus" tab. From it you can start a new session (⌘⏎) and track your time in that session (feel free to pause & resume with ⌘⇧P). If you are time tracking more than one thing, you can create projects (⌘⇧N) to keep time of how much time you spend where. Give your project a unique name and color to differentiate between them. And then attach your sessions to these project either by editing a previous session and changing the project property or by starting a new session with the project you want selected next to the "Focus" button.
More options
If you want to dig deeper into Tasker you can try out different plugins in the plugin view so you can take a peek into the Console or play with Tasker's API using the API Test plugin.
Sorry for the long message, but I wanted to make sure you had a complete understanding of Tasker's features. Hope you find some part of Tasker useful in your life. FYI the Focus plugin was tracked under the same Hackatime project as Tasker, no attempt to double dip or something here!
What's new
Can't seem to remember what the keyboard shortcut for an action is? Now you just need to hold your ⌘command key for a second and the Hotkey Popup will appear. Find out which hotkeys you can currently use and use search to filter them. The biggest update though isn't in the app's code; Tasker's first external plugin is here! Download the Focus plugin and start tracking your time right inside Tasker.
