Intro

Showbiz, like all of Minecraft, requires Blockbench for modeling, as Minecraft can only accept models that are made out of cubes.

This isn't a Blockbench tutorial, so if you're stuck on using Blockbench there are several resources on YouTube!

Setup

Make sure to install the GeckoLib plugin and create your model using the GeckoLib Animated Model format.

Requirements

  • Make or pose your model to be naturally sitting in the default pose of the animatronic (when all bits are turned off)
Showbiz can't use an animation as the default pose of your model due to constraints with Blockbench.
  • Make a bone hierarchy that makes sense, and try to keep bones to a minimum.
Don't use bones as folders, bones are joints, so only make a new bone if you need geometry to be under a joint that needs to move.
  • Don't make animations here unless you absolutely have to, as bots are mainly animated by the mod's physics engine using the bits file format.
  • Your model must have an ID, which is used in the later steps of addon development. For instance, Rolfe DeWolfe's ID is rolfe_dewolfe.
That is the full name of the animatronic, lowercase, using snake_case formatting. This will be used later.

I'm done modeling!

Now that your model is done, you need to make an addon to add it in!
