Release list
v1.0.7
Prism 1.0.7 — One beam. Many rays.
A fast, open-source download manager for Windows, Linux and macOS, with browser integration
and video downloads.
What's new in 1.0.7
- LinkedIn: the Download video button finds the post in LinkedIn's new design (feed, search
and company pages), where nothing around the video names its post
(#1). Prism reads the post
from its text and offers that post's video, never a neighbour's. For a post without text,
Prism says to open the post. - Updates are found sooner: Prism looks for a new version every hour, and again when you
come back to it after half an hour (it was every 6 hours). - AppImage: the browser keeps the extension after Prism restarts. The folder Prism showed
for the extension disappeared with every restart of the AppImage. Prism now keeps it in
~/.local/share/prism/extension— open Settings › Browser integration and load the extension
from the folder shown there once. - The reminder about an older browser extension also suggests restarting the browser.
- After updating, click ↻ next to Prism on
chrome://extensions(or restart the browser)
so it loads the new extension (1.0.7). If you installed it from a downloaded
prism-chromium.zip, use the 1.0.7 zip.
Also new since 1.0.5 (Prism 1.0.6)
- Video menus open faster: Prism runs yt-dlp's unpacked build (about a third of the start-up
time), reads the video while the pointer rests on it, answers at once for a page it read in
the last 10 minutes and offers Best quality right away. - Prism tells you when the browser still runs an older extension; Settings › Browser
integration shows the extension's version. - LinkedIn and Instagram feed, company, profile and Explore pages get a clear message at once;
errors from pages Prism can't read say what to do. The macOS DMG guide points to the
extension folder Prism keeps up to date.

What's inside
- Multi-connection engine written in Rust: up to 32 connections per file, dynamic
segmentation (a freed connection splits the largest remaining range), automatic
detection of server connection limits, writes straight into the final file. - Resume that survives crashes: pause, quit, lose power — Prism continues where it
stopped and validates the file against the server. - Browser integration: click a download link and Prism takes over. A Download video
button over video players, a popup listing every stream on the page, right-click menus. - Video and audio: YouTube and every site yt-dlp supports. Choose MP4 + quality (up
to 8K/HDR) or MP3 only. Subtitles, chapters, thumbnails, SponsorBlock. - More protocols: FTP/FTPS, HLS and DASH streams, BitTorrent and magnet links.
- Organisation: categories, queues with schedules and speed limits, actions when a
queue finishes (sleep, shut down…), site grabber, batch downloads, clipboard monitor. - Liquid-glass UI with dark and light themes, six accent colours and a mini window.
Known limitations
- The installers are not code-signed (signing certificates are paid):
- Windows SmartScreen: click More info → Run anyway.
- macOS: run
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Prism.apponce (or System
Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway). In-app updates don't need this again.
- The extension is installed manually (Developer mode → Load unpacked); store listings
are not available yet. Firefox keeps unsigned add-ons only until restart, except in
Developer Edition / Nightly / ESR. - macOS builds are produced by CI and tested there; feedback from real Macs is very welcome.
- Flatpak browsers on Linux can't talk to native apps (a browser sandbox limitation) — use
the deb/rpm version of your browser.

v1.0.6
Prism 1.0.6 — One beam. Many rays.
A fast, open-source download manager for Windows, Linux and macOS, with browser integration
and video downloads.
What's new in 1.0.6
- Video menus open faster. Prism now runs yt-dlp's unpacked build, which starts in about
a third of the time (on Windows 0.35 s instead of 1–1.4 s per run; it is downloaded once,
on the first start after the update). The Download video button starts reading the
video while the pointer rests on it, a page Prism has read answers at once for 10 minutes
(on a LinkedIn post: 2 s the first time, 0.2 s after that), and Best quality is
offered right away, before the list of qualities arrives. - Prism tells you when the browser still runs an old extension. Browsers don't reload an
unpacked extension after an update, so a new version's fixes didn't reach them until the
extension was reloaded. Prism now shows a reminder with the one click it takes, and
Settings › Browser integration shows the extension's version. - LinkedIn and Instagram: feed, company, profile and Explore pages get a clear message at
once instead of a slow error; the button recognises more kinds of LinkedIn feed posts.
Errors from pages Prism can't read say what to do, also with an older extension. - macOS: the guide in the DMG now points to the extension folder Prism keeps up to date
(~/Library/Application Support/Prism/extension), not to a copy that never updates. - After updating, click ↻ next to Prism on
chrome://extensions(or restart the browser)
so it loads the new extension (1.0.6). If you installed it from a downloaded
prism-chromium.zip, use the 1.0.6 zip.

v1.0.5
Prism 1.0.5 — One beam. Many rays.
A fast, open-source download manager for Windows, Linux and macOS, with browser integration
and video downloads.
What's new in 1.0.5
- LinkedIn: the Download button over a video finds it, also in the feed. 1.0.4 only found
videos whose player shows its files (public post pages); in the signed-in feed it said
"No downloadable stream found"
(#1). Prism now reads the
post you point at — as it does for YouTube — and offers its video. - Feeds and timelines (X, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, TikTok…): the button reads the post
under the pointer, not the page. On Instagram Explore, for example, it showed an error.
When a page can't be read, the message says what to do instead of showing yt-dlp's output. - Right-click › Download with Prism on a streaming video opens Prism's menu for it (it did
nothing). - Cookies from browser: when Prism can't read the browser's cookies (Chrome and Edge on
Windows lock them while open), videos that don't need them still download, and the error
for those that do explains the fix. - Windows: a video downloaded by yt-dlp whose title has
?,|or:showed up as a
missing file. - Embedded YouTube players in privacy mode (youtube-nocookie.com), VK and OK.ru get the quality
menu; dropdown menus close on Tab and when the page under them scrolls. - After updating, restart your browser (or click Reload for Prism on
chrome://extensions) so it loads the new extension (1.0.5). If you installed it from a
downloadedprism-chromium.zip, use the 1.0.5 zip.

v1.0.4
Prism 1.0.4 — One beam. Many rays.
A fast, open-source download manager for Windows, Linux and macOS, with browser integration
and video downloads.
What's new in 1.0.4
- Dropdowns in Settings work — Cookies from browser, Preferred quality,
HTTP version and the others (also Category in a download's properties). Their menu
opened behind the Settings window, so a click seemed to do nothing
(#2). Tooltips inside
dialogs show up too, and menus work from the keyboard: arrows and Enter pick, Esc closes
only the menu. - Browser extension: the Download button over a video offers that video. On LinkedIn
and other feeds it listed every stream the page had loaded, largest first — often an ad
playing elsewhere on the page
(#1). Now This video
comes first, with all its qualities (720p / 640p / 360p on LinkedIn, best first); other
streams on the page are listed below it. Streams without a file extension are labelled
with their quality and format (640p · MP4 · 5.1 MB).- After updating, restart the browser (or click Reload for Prism on
chrome://extensions) so it loads the new extension. On macOS Prism now refreshes its
copy of the extension in Application Support when it starts (until now that copy stayed
at the old version). If you installed it from a downloadedprism-chromium.zip, use the
1.0.4 zip.
- After updating, restart the browser (or click Reload for Prism on

v1.0.3
Prism 1.0.3 — One beam. Many rays.
A fast, open-source download manager for Windows, Linux and macOS, with browser integration
and video downloads.
What's new in 1.0.3
- Updates from inside the app. Prism checks for new versions by itself and shows
"Prism 1.x is ready — Restart & update". It downloads the signed update, restarts into the
new version and continues the downloads that were running. (Settings → General to turn the
check off; About → Check for updates.) Installer, macOS app and AppImage update themselves;
MSI, portable and deb/rpm installs get a link to the new version. - macOS fixes from real-world testing:
- Clicking Prism in the Dock brings back the window after it was closed; "Show Prism" (⌘0)
is in the app menu too. - Dialogs (Download File, Download Complete, …) appear immediately and are freed when closed.
- Clearer first-start instructions for Gatekeeper (
xattror Open Anyway). In-app updates
don't need it again.
- Clicking Prism in the Dock brings back the window after it was closed; "Show Prism" (⌘0)
- Trash: a download moved to the trash while running can be restored and continues where
it stopped (it used to start over). Emptying the trash no longer leaves.prismpartfiles. - Video: streams (HLS/DASH) always get their audio joined in — it could be saved as a
separate.audio.m4aafter changing a setting. File names follow your name template
(Title [id].mp4). - Selecting downloads with the checkboxes works (a click selected and unselected at once).
- Privacy: the clipboard is read only when it changes and password-manager entries are
skipped; browser cookies and passwords are removed from the database once a download is
finished; Prism's data folder is private to your user on macOS and Linux. - The browser helper restarts itself after an update, and Prism no longer says "Browser not
connected" for a minute after every start.

v1.0.2
Prism 1.0.2 — One beam. Many rays.
A fast, open-source download manager for Windows, Linux and macOS, with browser integration
and video downloads.
What's new in 1.0.2
- macOS: downloads from the browser work. The "Download File" window could stay
invisible on macOS, so links handed over by the extension seemed to disappear. Dialogs now
always appear and come to the front. - macOS: the browser extension is right in the DMG — a "Browser Extension" folder next to
Prism, with a short how-to. Prism also keeps a copy outside the app bundle, so the guide in
Settings → Browser integration points to a folder the browser's file picker can open. - Windows: updating works while the browser is open. The installer stops the browser
helper (prism-native-host.exe) before replacing it instead of failing with
"Error opening file for writing". - Rounded window corners on Windows 11, macOS and Linux (square when maximized).
- If a download dialog ever fails to open, the download starts anyway (with a notification)
instead of being lost, and the log says why.

Prism 1.0.1 — One beam. Many rays.
A fast, open-source download manager for Windows, Linux and macOS, with browser integration
and video downloads.
What's new in 1.0.1
- Connecting your browser is now guided. On first start (and in Settings → Browser
integration) Prism shows three simple steps for your browser: it copies the extensions-page
address and opens the browser, shows where the Developer-mode switch is, gives you the folder
to pick with one-click copy — and turns green the moment the extension connects. - A slim reminder in the main window until the extension is connected (dismissable).
- Speed limits are more precise: no duplicate "tail racing" while a limit is active.

Known limitations
- The installers are not code-signed (signing certificates are paid):
- Windows SmartScreen: click More info → Run anyway.
- macOS: right-click Prism → Open the first time (or
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Prism.app).
