This will not change the texture for compression tools that have already been created! Only new compression tools will have the new texture. |
-
Update the plugin config (
plugins/block-compression/config.yml) by setting thezip-tool.textureproperty to the new texture ID. -
Reload the plugin via the
/bcreloadcommand or by restarting the server.
zip-tool:
texture: Change this to the new texture ID!The compression tool item is a player head with a custom skin attached. To make a new texture, you must create a player skin with the head decorated as the compression tool.
The following steps are generally applicable to the creation of any custom block by way of player heads, and is the approach used for the compression tool.

This process involves temporarily changing a Minecraft account’s skin. Make sure to back up the original skin beforehand if needed. |
There are online tools available for this purpose such as The Skindex Minecraft Skin Editor or you can go the old-fashioned route and use an image editor such as GIMP to create a texture.
The original compression tool texture is available here for reference.
To get the texture reference for use as an item texture, the account ID for the Minecraft user who will temporarily have the target texture is required.
To get the account ID from the Mojang API, copy the following URL into your
browser and replace the text YOUR_NAME_HERE with your actual account username.
https://api.mojang.com/users/profiles/minecraft/YOUR_NAME_HERE
The result should be JSON that resembles the following:
{
"id": "e6b4783efecd4741b5c090a57d8ba0ee",
"name": "SomeMinecraftUsername"
}The value you are after is under the key id, so for the above example
output, it would be e6b4783efecd4741b5c090a57d8ba0ee.
Using the standard Minecraft profile editor (at minecraft.net) upload your custom texture as your character skin. THIS IS TEMPORARY and your character skin may be changed back after this process is completed.
Once the texture is uploaded, you will once again be using the Mojang API to get the raw texture data.
Copy the URL below into your browser, replacing the text YOUR_ID_HERE with the
id value you got in step 2.
https://sessionserver.mojang.com/session/minecraft/profile/YOUR_ID_HERE
The example output should be JSON that resembles the following:
{
"id": "e6b4783efecd4741b5c090a57d8ba0ee",
"name": "SomeMinecraftUsername",
"properties": [{
"name": "textures",
"value": "ewogICJ0aW1lc3RhbXAiIDogMTczMzE5ODk0MzQzNCwKICAicHJvZmlsZUlkIiA6ICJlNmI0NzgzZWZlY2Q0NzQxYjVjMDkwYTU3ZDhiYTBlZSIsCiAgInByb2ZpbGVOYW1lIiA6ICJTb21lTWluZWNyYWZ0VXNlcm5hbWUiLAogICJ0ZXh0dXJlcyIgOiB7CiAgICAiU0tJTiIgOiB7CiAgICAgICJ1cmwiIDogImh0dHA6Ly90ZXh0dXJlcy5taW5lY3JhZnQubmV0L3RleHR1cmUvYV9yZWFsbHlfbG9uZ19idW5jaF9vZl9sZXR0ZXJzX2FuZF9udW1iZXJzIgogICAgfQogIH0KfQ=="
}],
"profileActions": []
}The raw texture data you want is the long text value under the key value. This
text is a base64 encoded JSON object containing the actual texture URL, which
itself contains the texture ID we’re after.
In the example above, the value we want starts with:
ewogICJ0aW1lc3RhbXAiIDogMTczMzE5ODk0MzQzNCw
Using any base64 decoding tool (such as https://www.base64decode.org/) decode the long text from step 4 (not including the quotes).
The decoded output should be JSON that resembles the following:
{
"timestamp" : 1733198943434,
"profileId" : "e6b4783efecd4741b5c090a57d8ba0ee",
"profileName" : "SomeMinecraftUsername",
"textures" : {
"SKIN" : {
"url" : "http://textures.minecraft.net/texture/66d9a73fe3bb4a289ce1385e5e5a971f3920d1596fda487293a374879390d326"
}
}
}From that JSON the texture ID value is the end segment of the SKIN url
value. In the above example, the ID is
66d9a73fe3bb4a289ce1385e5e5a971f3920d1596fda487293a374879390d326.
That is the value that’s needed in the plugin config.
