Aether-GUI v1.18.0 — Aether 2.1.0 engine integration

Upgrades the bundled engine from Aether 2.0.0 to 2.1.0 and fixes connect-lifecycle bugs found in real session logs. GUI and engine have separate version numbers.

Engine (2.1.0)

  • Psiphon modes: psiphon, psiphon-reverse, psiphon-only (XOR shapes); MASQUE required for reverse.
  • Native Tor flags: bridge presets / bridge file / no-bridges / force-bridges, --tor-relays, relay ports, --tor-http.
  • --exit-loc / --exit-loc-secs, --stats / --stats-secs, noize profiles, --mark.
  • Scan mode stealth aliases verified; turbo/balanced/thorough/verified/ironclad budgets aligned with upstream prober deadlines.
  • Pinned install (engine-<ver>/) with SHA-256 verification for engine, pt/lyrebird, and pt/psiphon-tunnel-core.

Connect lifecycle (aether-3 / aether-4 field fixes)

  • Stuck “Starting Aether…”: first engine log line now marks interactive prompts done, so the UI advances Launching → Connecting when the full CLI never shows a prompt menu.
  • Stale monitor killing a live session: each spawn bumps an epoch; monitors exit if the epoch changes and only ever kill their own session. SOCKS address is re-read every tick instead of captured once.
  • Disconnect wouldn’t cancel / wouldn’t reconnect: any non-Idle/Error state is cancellable even with no session behind it (zombie Launching/Connecting), so you can turn the tunnel off without restarting the app.
  • AlreadyRunning → Error desync: the frontend no longer flips to Error when the backend still owns the attempt; the status event catches the UI up.

Proxy / ports / status

  • Private engine, engine-Tor, and engine-Psiphon ports are reserved separately so reverse/only modes no longer fight over 1821/1820.
  • Windows bind conflicts (only one usage of each socket address) classify as port-in-use.
  • Secondary Tor/Psiphon status line is sticky (no ready/unready blink) and gated on mode + session.
  • Host PROXY/HTTPS_PROXY/… env vars are stripped from the engine process; NO_PROXY pins loopback.

UI

  • Scan Mode menu scrolls on the x-axis when the window is narrow instead of overflowing the app.
  • IP Changer panel stays constrained after Start Tor (carried from v0.17.1).

Known upstream (not GUI)

  • MASQUE-in-MASQUE can fail every inner edge with QUIC 0x128 while the outer hop validates — engine-side; single-hop MASQUE connects normally on the same install.

Verification

  • cargo fmt --check, cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings, cargo test green.
  • npm run typecheck && lint && build green (one pre-existing TanStack Virtual warning).

@FreaksLxss FreaksLxss released this 17 Sep 16:56

Aether-GUI v0.17.1

A focused patch for the IP Changer panel resizing issue after starting Tor.

Fixed

  • Fixed the IP Changer panel expanding beyond the app window after Tor starts producing log output. The panel now stays constrained to the available window width when resizing smaller.
  • Long Tor log messages, including unbroken relay identifiers and paths, now wrap within the log viewer instead of forcing it wider. Message text and line breaks are preserved.
  • Applied the scroll-container sizing correction to the shared panel dialog, also used by Advanced, Presets, History, and Settings.

Unchanged

  • The bundled Aether engine remains 2.0.0.
  • This release changes UI layout only; Tor startup, IP rotation, proxy settings, and tunnel behavior are unchanged.

@FreaksLxss FreaksLxss released this 17 Sep 13:09

Aether-GUI v0.17.0 — Aether 2.0.0 integration

This release upgrades the bundled engine from Aether 1.9.0 to 2.0.0 and aligns engine installation, profiles and startup diagnostics with the new release. The GUI and engine have separate version numbers.

Engine installation and repair

  • Bundle the engine together with its required pt/lyrebird transport companion.
  • Pin development downloads, CI builds and in-app repair to the same release manifest and SHA-256 checksums. Validate archives and stage replacements before activation.
  • Prefer a compatible versioned app-data installation over stale bundled or legacy copies. Reject unsupported engines before attempting a connection, fixing the old engine's rejection of --mim.
  • Show the detected engine version in About and provide an install/repair action for missing or incompatible engines.
  • Restrict packaged resources so identity TOMLs, logs and download helpers are not included in installers.

Profiles and native Tor

  • Correct Tor mode serialization, accepting legacy saved spellings while using canonical tor-reverse and tor-only values.
  • Correct bridge arguments: automatic fallback, forced automatic bridges, repeated manual bridge lines and disabled bridges. Preserve multiline input while editing.
  • Flag legacy bridge-file settings for migration instead of passing an unsupported argument. If your profile contains a bridge-file path, replace it with bridge lines before connecting.
  • Validate active profiles before launch, including protocol conflicts, listener collisions, numeric settings and MiM endpoint constraints. Apply presets as complete validated profiles and normalize older imports with defaults.
  • Clarify MiM's default HTTP/3 transport, show Tor-Reverse's effective HTTP/2 transport and disable irrelevant QUIC controls without discarding saved choices.
  • Report native chain Tor's secondary SOCKS listener readiness separately from the primary listener, with a copyable proxy URL and mode-aware startup timeouts.

Diagnostics and maintenance

  • Preserve trailing engine output at EOF, including errors without a final newline.
  • Stop retrying recognized permanent startup/configuration failures and show actionable fixed messages rather than misleading scan-mode advice.
  • Resolve frontend lint and Rust Clippy issues and update the English and Persian setup documentation.

Important distinctions

Native engine Tor remains separate from IP Changer, which retains its own Tor process, control socket and rotation controls. Local SOCKS listener readiness is not proof of end-to-end connectivity, leak protection or a guaranteed new exit IP.

Build and verification

  • Desktop workflow targets: Windows x64, Linux x64, macOS Apple Silicon and macOS Intel. No Android build is included.
  • Local checks before release preparation: 85 Rust tests passed, strict Clippy passed, frontend production build passed, and ESLint reported no errors with one existing TanStack Virtual warning. Engine packaging tests: 10 passed.
  • Windows installer packaging was verified locally before the version bump. The v0.17.0 CI builds must succeed before publishing this draft. Only use the assets attached by that workflow for this release.
  • Real WARP/Tor connectivity and system-proxy changes were not exercised as part of this verification.

v0.16.1

@FreaksLxss FreaksLxss released this 16 Sep 19:12

v0.16.1 — IP Changer Layout Fix

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed IP Changer panel layout shift: Resolved the issue where clicking "Start Tor" caused all components in the panel to shift/go off-screen to the right. Root cause was motion/react AnimatePresence components with mode="popLayout" causing width expansion during layout changes. Replaced all animated components with plain HTML elements.
  • Removed motion.div wrappers from IpDisplay, StatusIndicator, and RotationControls that contributed to horizontal overflow during Tor state transitions.
  • Added min-w-0 w-full constraints to Section component container to prevent flex overflow.

Changed

  • IpDisplay.tsx: Removed all AnimatePresence/motion components — IP text and progress bar now render as plain div/span elements
  • StatusIndicator.tsx: Removed motion.div wrapper, plain div only
  • RotationControls.tsx: Removed AnimatePresence/motion.div for error message and button spacer
  • panel-section.tsx: Added min-w-0 w-full to prevent flex overflow

Build

  • Installer rebuilt for all platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux)
  • Triggered via GitHub Actions tag push (v0.16.1)

v0.16.0

Choose a tag to compare

@FreaksLxss FreaksLxss released this 13 Sep 15:13

Aether-GUI v0.16.0

Squircle design system, live traffic & engine panels, and Aether 2.0 profile coverage — with a reusable /squircle skill.

Design — Squircle everywhere

  • Global corner-shape: squircle in src/index.css (@layer base *) — every rounded-* now renders as an iOS/macOS superellipse (continuous curvature, not a plain circular arc). Gracefully falls back on unsupported browsers.
  • Scale overhaul: --radius 0.625rem → 1.375rem (22px base, drives sm→4xl), --window-radius 22px → 50px (all four corners symmetric now; shell uses per-corner vars). Panels/cards at 35px, floating menus/popovers at 22px — big surfaces biggest, inputs/buttons stay proportional.
  • .corner-round override (corner-shape: round) for true circles — power button disc + all inner layers in ConnectButton.tsx, so rounded-full is no longer squished into a superellipse.
  • Title bar — control bar h-8 → h-9, rounded-[14px] → rounded-[50px]; min/max/close size-7 → size-8 with size-4 icons for a rounder feel (still rounded-full).
  • Popover & Select — PopoverContent, SelectTrigger, SelectContent rounded-lg → rounded-[22px].
  • Toggles — AlwaysOnTopToggle, AutoStartToggle, CloseToTrayToggle, MinimizeOnStartupToggle, SystemProxyToggle containers rounded-lg → rounded-[35px]; ToggleGroupItem (IpVersionToggle, MasqueTransportToggle, etc.) likewise.
  • New skill: /squircle — /.agents/skills/squircle/SKILL.md (+ .claude alias) encodes this whole pattern (global squircle, circle override, radius tiers, rounded- audit checklist, plush/balanced/subtle presets). Call /squircle anytime to re-apply or tune intensity.

New — Traffic, connections, engine controls

  • Live traffic stats — new src-tauri/src/traffic.rs (Windows: GetIfTable2 / GetExtendedTcpTable via windows-sys + IpHelper/Ndis features, rust-version = 1.98) + frontend src/components/TrafficStats.tsx — upload/download rates and totals on the Network card, polled via aether://traffic.
  • Active connections panel — src/components/ActiveConnections.tsx — per-app TCP/UDP table (PID → exe, local/remote, state).
  • Engine panels — src/components/EngineTorPanel.tsx, src/components/MarkField.tsx, src/components/MimPeersField.tsx for Aether 2.0 flags.
  • Helpers — src/lib/format.ts (formatBytes/formatRate), expanded src/lib/validators.ts + InlineErrorBanner wiring.

Aether core profile — 2.0 parity

src-tauri/src/aether/profiles.rs now covers the full Aether >=2.0 surface (all omissible/validated, existing profile.json stays compatible):

  • mim / mim_peers (--mim, --mim-peers auto|host:port,...) — gated to Auto/Masque.
  • quic_v2 (--no-quic-v2 when false, suppressed under masque_http2).
  • fw_mark (--mark, Linux/Android SO_MARK, decimal or 0x hex).
  • Engine Tor (EngineTorMode: Disabled/Tor/TorReverse/TorOnly plus engine_tor_bind/dir/bridges/bridges_file/no_bridges/pt/pt_dir/country/direct_secs/stall_secs -> --tor* flags; tor-reverse validated MASQUE-only).
  • Env-only tuning: max_clients, half_close_secs, tcp_keepalive_secs, tcp_connect_secs.
  • rust-version = 1.98 + windows-sys features Win32_NetworkManagement_IpHelper / Ndis for the traffic counters.

Improvements

  • AdvancedPanel, App.tsx, ConnectionInfo, GlassAccordion, QuickConnect/QuickProtocol, LeakBanner, NotificationBanner, ProfilePresets, ConnectionHistoryContent — floating PanelDialog, AppMenu/CommandPalette polish, validators, and squircle-aware layouts (bulk pass in 0f3851d).
  • src-tauri/src/httpproxy.rs — loopback HTTP->SOCKS5 bridge hardening; src-tauri/src/tun/forwarder.rs, src/state.rs, src/ip_changer.rs, src/events.rs / src/commands.rs / src/lib.rs wired for traffic + activeConns + engine events.
  • src/hooks/useWindowPersist.ts, src/state/windowFocus.ts, src/state/connectionStore.ts (traffic/activeConns state), src/types/connection.ts, src/stores/ipChangerStore.ts — window persistence + focus-aware store updates.
  • package.json / src-tauri/Cargo.toml / src-tauri/tauri.conf.json bumped to 0.16.0.

Assets

Built on every push of v* by .github/workflows/build.yml (matrix: linux-x86_64, macos-arm64, macos-x86_64, windows-x86_64). Each runner fetches the pinned Aether core (fetch-aether.sh), prunes the other-platform Tor bundles, runs npm ci + tauri-action, uploads bundles as artifacts and attaches them to this draft release. Windows binaries are Authenticode-signed when WINDOWS_CERT_BASE64 is configured.

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Sep 19:14

Aether-GUI v0.15.0

New

  • Aether core bumped to v1.9.0 (from v1.7.0). New WARP-in-WARP endpoints setting for the gool protocol: pin manual WIW hop endpoints (--wiw-peers) instead of scanning both hops. Comma-separated host:port list — give one hop and the scan finds the other; port required, empty = scan both (Aether default). Shown in Advanced only when gool is selected, and every entry must parse as a full host:port or the flag is dropped whole.
  • Bundled Aether core version now shown in the About dialog is v1.9.0.

v0.14.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Aug 19:48

Bundles the Aether v1.7.0 core.

Fixed

Endless reconnect loop

A GUI bug made every healthy tunnel process look like it had exited (with code 0) moments after launch, so the app tore it down and reconnected in an endless loop the connection never stuck. This is the main fix of this release; if you saw "Reconnecting" cycling or repeated fresh Aether starts in the log, this was it.

Real errors are no longer silent

When the core does exit unexpectedly, the advanced log now shows the actual reason and exit code ([gui] Aether exited before connecting ()) instead of failing invisibly between retries.

No more console window flashes

The IP Changer's Tor process plus TUN's netsh/route/ipconfig helpers launched with a visible terminal window on Windows. All child processes now run fully hidden.

Changed

  • First-launch default scan mode is now Fast instead of Balanced (any mode can still be picked in Advanced ? Scan mode).

v0.13.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Aug 14:02

Aether GUI v0.13.1

What's New

  • Smoother main screen: The connect button, status area and panels now fade and spring in with staggered motion, so the app feels less static when it opens and when state changes.
  • Leak detection banner: When a connection is detected as leaking, a red banner appears right under the status line warning you about it, with a quick action to jump to Stealth Scan Mode so the tunnel is rebuilt with stricter settings.
  • Cleaner toggle controls: Scan mode, IP version, DNS mode, MASQUE transport, obfuscation profile and traffic capture now use a uniform segmented control style, making the current selection easier to read at a glance.
  • Stability polish across panels: Small visual and layout fixes in the Advanced panel, connection history, settings and the IP Changer screens.

@github-actions github-actions released this 11 Aug 22:26

Aether GUI v0.13.0

What's New

  • Aether core updated to v1.6.0: The bundled tunnel engine is bumped to the latest release, bringing its new features and resilience fixes with it.
  • HTTP CONNECT Proxy: Aether can now expose an HTTP proxy next to the SOCKS5 one for clients that can't speak SOCKS. Enable it from Advanced -> Proxy -> HTTP Proxy (e.g. 127.0.0.1:1818). Leave it empty to keep it off.
  • "Light" Obfuscation Profile (MASQUE): A gentler --noize light profile for networks that only need a nudge — selectable in the Obfuscation toggle alongside Firewall and GFW.
  • Zero Trust one-time-code sign-in now works in the GUI: Aether v1.6.0 accepts the emailed sign-in code on its standard input. Set your email under Advanced -> Zero Trust, connect, and paste the emailed code into the new Sign-in code field and press Enter. No more terminal needed to finish enrolment.

Under the Hood (from Aether v1.6.0)

  • SOCKS5 listener no longer dies after a single transient accept error.
  • WireGuard scan retransmits lost handshake packets and covers all priority ports per endpoint.
  • Failed endpoints go on a cooldown before being re-picked.
  • --startup-secs bounds how long a MASQUE tunnel may take to come up.

Aether GUI v0.12.1

What's New

  • Tor Engine Switch (IP Changer): You can now toggle between the bundled Tor package and your OS-provided system Tor.
    • Smart Detection: The switch option automatically appears only if a system-wide Tor installation is detected.
    • Persistent: Your choice is saved across app restarts and takes effect the next time Tor starts.
    • Linux Workaround: This is especially useful for Linux users when the bundled Tor fails to launch (e.g., due to AppImage mounts dropping the exec bit).

Bug Fixes

  • Version Tagging: Fixed an issue to ensure the release build is now properly tied to the release page.
