FrightWorks v1.1.1

@Loneranger419 Loneranger419 released this 04 Nov 00:19

What's new since 1.1.0

Picture

  • Choose your monitor: a new Fullscreen monitor setting, in the launcher (Settings > Display) and in game (F10 > Video), picks where Borderless and Exclusive Fullscreen open. Automatic works as before (#33, #95).
  • Widescreen title and Map: the title screen and the Map now fill wide screens with forest at the sides, without stretching the picture (#85).
  • Sharper at high resolutions: setting Resolution higher than your screen (such as 8x) no longer looks jagged or stripy (#88, #90).
  • Characters and objects at the edges of a widescreen picture no longer vanish while still visible (#27, #77, #80).
  • Frame interpolation (120/180): the manor curtains no longer flicker or appear where there is no window (#40, #92).
  • With Skip intro movies on, the game no longer strobes white at launch (#50, #78).

Sound

  • The Music, Sound effects, Voices and Menus sliders in F10 now work (#37, #86). Voices covers level dialog and in-engine cutscene soundtracks. Some short lines, such as Scooby's barks and one-liners, count as Sound effects, and movie audio follows Master only.

Controller

  • F10 is now usable with a controller alone: press A on a tab to enter its settings and B to go back. LB/RB change page. The button you close F10 with no longer reaches the game (#93, #94).

Launcher

  • Settings now match F10: all 12 resolutions, with values set in F10 shown correctly (#89, #91).
  • Frame interpolation can be turned on in the launcher, under Experimental (#52, #91).
  • Settings pages fit their panel without cut-off text, the black rectangles around the tabs and close button are gone, and keyboard focus is visible (#83).

Developer tools (off by default; Extras > Developer tools in the launcher)

  • F8 dev menu: new Player page, warp and gallery controls, and CPU/RAM readouts (#84).

The project has moved to https://github.com/FrightWorks/FrightWorks-no100f. Old links redirect.

Known issues

  • Frame interpolation is still experimental, and performs poorly on ARM64 devices (#73).
  • Original game bug: grass and other elements appear above the poison fog (#82).
  • Shadows are drawn over other actors (#57).

Install

Installer (recommended): download FrightWorks-win-Setup.exe and run it. Open FrightWorks from the Desktop or Start menu shortcut and choose your disc image on the Play page.

Zip: unzip FrightWorks-1.1.1.zip, open FrightWorks.exe in the FrightWorks folder, and choose your disc image on the Play page.

Disc image: Night of 100 Frights, GameCube USA v1.01 (GIHE78, revision 1), as .iso, .gcm or .ciso. No game data is included.

Updating from 1.1.0: installed copies offer the update when the launcher starts. For the zip, unzip the new release over your FrightWorks folder and replace the files (your saves, settings, mods and disc stay).

Tested

Each change was tested in its own PR. This build:

  • the zip contains no game data, saves or settings;
  • the launcher runs from the unzipped folder, starts fresh (no disc, developer tools off) and reports version 1.1.1;
  • the game's build ID is 1.1.1; h001 (HD on) reaches the level and i004 boots, without crashes.

Not tested on this build: running the installer, and updating an installed copy from GitHub. 1.1.1 is the first release installed copies can update to, so that update path is new; it has only been tested with a local update source. No full playthrough.

What's new since 1.0.4

Installer and automatic updates

  • New Windows installer: FrightWorks-win-Setup.exe installs FrightWorks for your user account, with Desktop and
    Start menu shortcuts, and uninstalls from Windows Settings > Apps (#55, #68).
  • Automatic updates: the installed launcher checks for a new version when it starts and asks before updating
    (Update now / Not now / Skip this version). Updates download only what changed. Turn the check off, or check by hand,
    in Extras.
  • The zip release is still here for anyone who prefers a portable folder. From this version on, the zip's launcher
    tells you when a new release is out and links to it.

Your saves and settings

  • Installed copies keep saves in Saved Games\FrightWorks, and settings, logs and game files in
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\FrightWorks-Data, so uninstalling or updating never touches them (#54, #67).
    Screenshots and videos go to Pictures\FrightWorks and Videos\FrightWorks.
  • Choose your own save folder in Extras > Folders (installed or zip).
  • Bringing your old saves along: on first start, the installed launcher offers to copy saves, settings, mods and
    game files from an earlier FrightWorks or Refrightened folder it finds, or from one you pick. Extras has an Import
    button for later.
  • The zip works as before: everything stays inside its FrightWorks folder.

Fixes

  • The music no longer gets stuck repeating a second or two of the track (#14, #51).
  • Dragging or resizing the window, or opening its title-bar menu, no longer freezes the game and its sound (#56, #71).

Screenshots and videos

  • F2 also copies the screenshot to the clipboard (#59, #62).
  • Click the "saved" message after F2 or F3 to open the folder with the file selected.

Launcher

  • The version is back in the bottom-left corner of the launcher (#66).

Developer tools (off by default; Extras > Developer tools in the launcher)

  • F8 dev menu > Power-ups: listed in the order you find them, unused ones grouped separately, and a new Map toggle
    (#70).

Known issues

  • Frame interpolation (120/180): curtains in Clamor in the Manor! flicker (#40). Turn interpolation off if it bothers you.

Install

Installer (recommended): download FrightWorks-win-Setup.exe and run it. Open FrightWorks from the Desktop or
Start menu shortcut and choose your disc image on the Play page.

Zip: unzip FrightWorks-1.1.0.zip, open FrightWorks.exe in the FrightWorks folder, and choose your disc image
on the Play page.

Disc image: Night of 100 Frights, GameCube USA v1.01 (GIHE78, revision 1), as .iso, .gcm or .ciso. No game
data is included.

Updating from 1.0.4 (zip): either unzip the new release over your FrightWorks folder and replace the files (your
saves, settings, mods and disc stay), or switch to the installer: on first start it offers to copy everything from
your old folder.

Tested

Each change was tested in its own PR. This build:

  • the zip contains no game data, saves or settings;
  • the launcher runs from the unzipped folder, starts fresh (no disc, developer tools off) and reports version 1.1.0;
  • the game's build ID is 1.1.0; h001 (HD on) and i004 boot without crashes;
  • the installer installs, starts and uninstalls cleanly.

Updating an installed copy from GitHub is new with this release: it was tested with a local update source, and 1.1.0
is the first version installed copies can update from. No full playthrough.

Note

Known audio bugs. We know about some audio problems and are working on them: the music can get stuck repeating a
second or two of the track (#14), and the sound sliders in the F10 menu don't change anything yet (#37). Enough
features and fixes have built up since 1.0.3 that we want you to be able to play and test them now. If you run into
an audio bug, please add what you were doing to the issue (an F3 recording helps a lot).

What's new since 1.0.3

Controllers

  • Original Xbox controls as an option, alongside the GameCube layout. The launcher asks once when it sees an Xbox
    pad (#17, fixes #22).
  • Rebind your controller in the F10 menu's Controls page and in the launcher's Settings > Controls (#41). On the
    Xbox layout, you can choose which buttons act as Black and White (#38, fixes #20).
  • On-screen button prompts follow your remapped face buttons (#39, fixes #19).
  • Back / Select opens the F10 menu (unless you've bound it to something else).

Launcher and menus

  • New launcher: a haunted mansion, with no Scooby-Doo artwork (#35, fixes #32).
  • Restyled in-game menus (F10) to match the launcher (#36).
  • A hotkey guide on the main menu, and a controller card when a pad is connected (#48).
  • F1 opens the project page, F2 saves a screenshot to the Screenshots folder (#28).
  • The version moved from the launcher's footer to Extras > About.

Fixes

  • No more seam around a box in the top-left corner of the screen, in every level (#45).
  • Glows, such as the hub's lamp posts and the lighthouse beam, no longer show through roofs and trees (#46).

Developer tools (off by default; Extras > Developer tools in the launcher)

  • F8 dev menu: travel to any level, saved spots, god mode, power-ups tab, texture and effect inspectors (#36, #43).
  • F3 video recording with sound; the launcher offers to download ffmpeg for it (#47).
  • A DEV mark with the build ID in the corner.

Known issues

  • Audio: music stuck looping (#14), F10 sound sliders (#37).
  • Frame interpolation (120/180): curtains in Clamor in the Manor! flicker (#40). Turn interpolation off if it bothers you.

Install

  1. Unzip FrightWorks-1.0.4.zip. You get a FrightWorks folder.
  2. Open FrightWorks.exe.
  3. Choose your disc image on the Play page: Night of 100 Frights, GameCube USA v1.01 (GIHE78, revision 1), as
    .iso, .gcm or .ciso. No game data is included.

Updating from 1.0.3: unzip the new release over your FrightWorks folder and replace the files. Your saves,
settings, mods and disc stay as they are.

Coming from Scooby-Doo: Refrightened? Unzip FrightWorks next to your old folder; on first start the launcher offers
to copy your saves, settings, controls, mods and game files.

Tested

Each change was tested in its own PR. This build:

  • the zip contains no game data, saves or settings;
  • the launcher runs from the unzipped folder, starts fresh (no disc, developer tools off) and reports version 1.0.4;
  • the game's build ID is 1.0.4; h001 (HD on) and i004 boot without crashes.

No full playthrough.

FrightWorks v1.0.3

Choose a tag to compare

@Loneranger419 Loneranger419 released this 01 Nov 05:13
0720cc1

The first FrightWorks release. FrightWorks continues Scooby-Doo: Refrightened by JosiahG.

About the version number: FrightWorks carries on Refrightened's version numbers. Refrightened's last release,
v1.0.2, is the commit FrightWorks
split off from, so this release is 1.0.3.

What's new since Refrightened v1.0.2

Fixes

  • Clamor in the Manor!: the stretched curtains, the spider web, and map textures that went missing after camera turns
    (#2, fixes upstream issues 6 and 2)
  • Mind Your Manors!: broken ghost monsters (#2)
  • No dotted outlines around light shafts with anti-aliasing on (#3, fixes upstream issue 9)
  • No crackle in the music (#4)
  • The game's clock starts at today's date. Before, it was always New Year's, so fireworks went off on every hub visit
    (#5).
  • 60 fps:
    • the floor fog in Mind Your Manors! no longer flickers;
    • torches, candles, exhaust, firework trails and other effects run at the game's normal rate and speed (#7, #8).
  • HD textures: no dark halos around cut-out textures such as webs, grass and leaves (#9)

New

  • Holidays option on the launcher's Play page: follow today's date, pick a holiday, or turn them off (#6)
  • The Creeper window animation in Mystic Manor's courtyard is back (#15, Creeper restoration by
    BitsofBitsofBitsofBits). The built-in HD pack has HD frames for it.
  • New name: FrightWorks: Night of 100 Frights (#10), now also on the files (#26). Discord presence is off unless you set your own
    [discord] client_id.

For developers: the debug kit (dev menu patch, tools, guides) is now in the repo; see
docs/testing.md.

Install

  1. Unzip FrightWorks-1.0.3.zip.

Coming from Scooby-Doo: Refrightened?

  • Unzip FrightWorks next to your old folder.
  • On first start, the launcher offers to copy your saves, settings, controls, mods and game files, so you don't have
    to choose the disc again. The old folder is left as it is; delete it once you're happy.
  • The program files are renamed: FrightWorks.exe (launcher) and data\FrightWorks Game.exe (game).

Tested

Each change was tested in its own PR (#26 for the rename and the import). This build:

  • the zip contains no game data, saves or settings;
  • the launcher pages render, and the exe reports version 1.0.3;
  • h001 (HD on) and i004 boot without crashes;
  • end to end, unzipped next to a Refrightened-style folder: the import copied the saves and game files, and the game
    started from the new folder with the imported memory card.

No full playthrough.
