What mongoterm can do today. For what's planned or still missing compared to MongoDB Compass, see Roadmap.
- Manage multiple saved MongoDB connections
- Import / export connections — supports both MongoDB Compass's own
connection JSON shape and a plain mongosh-style URI list (
x/ikeys on the tree panel; format auto-detected by file extension)
- Browse, create, and drop databases
- Browse, create, and drop collections
- View documents (tree-formatted, with type-aware coloring for ObjectId, Date, Buffer, etc.)
- Insert, edit, delete, and duplicate documents
- Field-level type cycling in the record editor (String/Number/Boolean/ Date/ObjectId/Null/Array/Object)
- Query filter bar with JSON validation (red border on invalid JSON)
-
$operatorautocomplete dropdown - Query history
- Sort UI (
skey) - Pagination with configurable page size (
shift+s) - Query shell modal (
:) — a larger, focus-anywhere textbox for composing bigger filters, mirrored into the query box on submit
- Keybinding help popup (
?) — generated live from the same config that drives the bottom status bar, so it never drifts out of sync - Small floating CPU/RAM monitor HUD
- Keyboard-driven throughout — no mouse required
- Cross-platform: works the same on macOS, Linux, and Windows (config/log paths resolve to the user's home directory regardless of OS or drive)
