IT 140 Module Two Assignment Wiki

Welcome to the IT 140 Module Two Assignment wiki.

This wiki supports the GC-STEM/it140-m2-assignment repository. The assignment introduces a small software-development workflow while you create and test a Python program and reflect on features of your course IDE.

Start with the repository README. The README files contain the current step-by-step assignment instructions. Use this wiki when you want an explanation, reference, or troubleshooting help.

Start Here

Before using this wiki:

  1. Review the Module Two Assignment Guidelines and Rubric in D2L Brightspace.
  2. Follow the top-level assignment README: https://github.com/GC-STEM/it140-m2-assignment
  3. Complete Part A before Part B unless your course instructions tell you otherwise.

The assignment repository guides you through:

Part A: Analyze → Design → Construct → Test
Part B: IDE Features Reflection
Submit: D2L Brightspace

GitHub is used to develop and back up your work. Assignment submission, grading, and instructor feedback remain in D2L Brightspace.

What This Wiki Is For

Use the wiki for supplemental help:

The wiki is informational. If a wiki page and the assignment README or D2L Brightspace instructions differ, follow the current README and the Module Two Assignment Guidelines and Rubric.

Part A at a Glance

Part A uses a simplified Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC):

  1. Analyze — understand what the program must do.
  2. Design — understand the provided plan for how the program will work.
  3. Construct — complete the provided Python starter file.
  4. Test — run the program, compare results with requirements, and correct problems.

Start Part A here:

https://github.com/GC-STEM/it140-m2-assignment/blob/main/Part-A/README.md

Your Part A programming deliverable is:

Part-A/src/name_age.py

The Software Development Worksheet (SDW) is a working file that supports your analysis and design. The SRS, SDD, flowchart, pseudocode, and test files are provided reference materials.

Part B at a Glance

Part B asks you to reflect on three IDE features that you used or observed while completing Part A.

Start Part B here:

https://github.com/GC-STEM/it140-m2-assignment/blob/main/Part-B/README.md

Your Part B deliverable is:

Part-B/ide_features.md

The reflection should describe your own experience with the IDE. The repository instructions provide links to Microsoft documentation when you need to confirm the official name of a VS Code feature.

Course IDE Reminder

The Codio Virtual Desktop (CVD) is the reference environment for IT 140. If you use the CVD after completing the Module One Setup Tasks, the expected course tools should already be configured.

You may also use a supported local course IDE that you configured through Module One.

For setup information, use the Module One Setup Tasks repository and wiki:

Do not repeat the Module One setup process unless the setup instructions or course support tell you to do so.

If You Need Help

Choose the support path that matches the problem:

  • Assignment requirements, grading, deadlines, accommodations, or instructor feedback: Contact your instructor through D2L Brightspace.
  • Question about using this assignment repository: Use GitHub Discussions when appropriate.
  • Technical problem with provided repository files or course tools: Use GitHub Issues.
  • Course IDE setup or configuration problem: Return to the Module One Setup Problems and Support wiki page.

See Assignment Problems and Support for more guidance.

After the Assignment

When Part A and Part B are complete, return to the Module Two Assignment Guidelines and Rubric in D2L Brightspace.

Confirm the required files and submission requirements there before submitting. GitHub does not submit your assignment for grading.
