Troubleshootr 0.6.0 preview: network
Preview build. Unzip and run Troubleshootr.exe (no install).
New in 0.6.0: network diagnosis
- Step-by-step connection test that says where it breaks: adapter, IP address, router, internet, DNS or a sign-in page
- Packet loss and slow replies to the router and the internet
- Weak Wi-Fi signal, band, channel, standard and link speed
- Gigabit cable stuck at 100 Mb/s, no address from the router (169.254.x.x)
- Proxy, hosts-file and hand-set DNS redirection; third-party Winsock hooks
- Wrong clock or time sync switched off
- Network tab with adapters, proxy, hosts file, Winsock, and a download speed test button
87 checks in total.
Troubleshootr 0.5.0 (preview)
Preview build: phase 6, slow PCs, startup and software.
- New tabs: Performance (what the PC was doing during the scan, power plan, page file, visual settings, space that could be freed), a live Processes view (CPU, memory and disk per process, sortable, open file location), Startup (everything that starts with Windows, on or off) and Software (installed programs, default browser, extension counts).
- 10 new checks (78 in total): CPU maxed out, a program hogging CPU/memory/disk, a disk at 100%, a processor throttled under load, too many startup apps, a power plan holding the processor back, no page file (or one on a removable drive), "optimizer"/adware programs, browsers loaded with extensions, and gigabytes that cleanup would free.
- A Quick scan now includes a 3-second performance sample (about 4 s in total).
- Ending processes and switching startup apps on/off come later, with confirmation and logging.
Unzip and run Troubleshootr.exe. Needs .NET Framework 4.7.2 (built into Windows 10 1803+ and 11).
Troubleshootr 0.4.0 (preview)
Preview build: phase 5, drivers, devices and Windows Update.
- New Devices, Drivers and Updates tabs, and a display list on the Graphics tab.
- 18 new checks (68 in total):
- devices that aren't working, with Device Manager's problem code in plain English;
- devices with no driver, named by maker from their hardware id;
- very old network/storage/graphics drivers, drivers with known security holes (WinRing0, old RTCore64 and others), test-signing mode, leftover drivers from an old graphics card, drivers that keep failing to load;
- no graphics driver, old graphics driver, monitor plugged into the motherboard instead of the card, screens running below their best refresh rate, apps forced onto the power-saving GPU;
- last Windows update, updates that keep failing (error codes explained), paused or blocked updates, safeguard holds;
- Windows activation, Windows 11 readiness on Windows 10 PCs, Windows 11 on an unsupported processor.
- Faster event-log reading (about 1.2 s).
Unzip and run Troubleshootr.exe. Needs .NET Framework 4.7.2 (built into Windows 10 1803+ and 11).
Troubleshootr 0.3.0 (preview)
Preview build: phase 4, crashes and event logs.
- New Events & Crashes tab: blue screens (with the code in plain English), unexpected shutdowns, apps that keep crashing, hardware and driver errors, service failures, crash settings, and a filterable error timeline for the last 7 days.
- 26 new checks: blue screens and what they have in common, crashes that point to RAM or the graphics driver, drivers named in crash dumps, disk errors in the event log, WHEA hardware errors, failed memory tests, graphics driver resets, CPU speed limits, Intel 13th/14th-gen microcode, unexpected shutdowns, slow boot (admin), failing and disabled services, damaged system files, temporary profiles, low memory, Group Policy errors, Explorer crash loops, and the Reliability Monitor score.
- Run as admin to read the crash dump files (the driver at fault) and boot timing.
- New command:
troubleshootr-cli dump --file <file.dmp>.
Unzip and run Troubleshootr.exe. Needs .NET Framework 4.7.2 (built into Windows 10 1803+ and 11).
Troubleshootr 0.2.1 (preview): drive health over USB
Reads SMART health from SATA drives inside USB enclosures (like CrystalDiskInfo), when run as admin (Restart as admin). Also reads Samsung drive temperature correctly. Unzip and run Troubleshootr.exe; if SmartScreen warns, click More info, then Run anyway.
Troubleshootr 0.2.0 (preview): drive health
Adds drive health, CrystalDiskInfo style: a Good / Caution / Bad verdict per drive, temperature, life used, power-on hours, data written, and the SMART attribute table for SATA drives. 13 new storage checks (failing drives, bad sectors, NVMe warnings, SSD wear, heat, old hard drives, Windows on a hard drive, TRIM off, degraded Storage Spaces, misaligned partitions, file system errors, USB adapters hiding health). NVMe health works without admin; SATA SMART needs Restart as admin. Unzip and run Troubleshootr.exe; if SmartScreen warns, click More info, then Run anyway.
Troubleshootr 0.1.0 (preview)
First preview. Unzip anywhere (a USB stick works) and run Troubleshootr.exe. Windows SmartScreen may warn because the app isn't signed: click More info, then Run anyway. 11 checks so far (disk space, RAM, Windows support and restarts, WMI, BIOS age) plus System, CPU, Memory, Motherboard, Storage and Graphics info. Drive health, crashes, drivers and more come next.
