GT Chat is a long-running workspace—streaming answers, tool activity, dataset retrieval, and message actions all compete for attention. Chat Window Preferences let each user tune transcript density, response pacing, and layout width without changing agent behavior or deployment policy. Operators set organization-wide defaults; users override what they need and keep those overrides across sessions.
Chat Window Preferences lives in the GT Chat header action row, beside New Chat. The panel opens as a movable dialog anchored near the trigger. You can drag the header to reposition it and close it with Close or Cancel without saving.
Changes apply to the live chat workspace as you edit (preview while the panel is open). Click Save preferences to persist them to your user profile. Unsaved changes are discarded when you close without saving.
Control which optional transcript details appear on each message.
| Control | Effect |
|---|---|
| Show request process | Shows the agent request/process timeline (tool rounds, retrieval steps, and related activity). Hidden automatically when Agent Activity is set to Hide activity details. |
| Show supporting details | Shows supporting metadata blocks attached to assistant messages (for example retrieval context summaries). |
| Show message details row | Shows the per-message details row (model, timing, and related metadata when available). |
| Message action buttons | Icons with full labels (default) or Icons only (show label on hover) for Copy, Read aloud, Download, and related actions. |
Use Reset chat features to default to restore only this section from the current platform defaults.
| Control | Options | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Streaming | On / off | When on, assistant replies render incrementally as tokens arrive. When off, the full reply appears after completion. |
| Agent Activity | Full timeline and live activity / Live activity only / Hide activity details | Controls how much in-flight tool and activity detail is shown during and after a turn. |
| Easy prompt button behavior | Add to user prompt box / Send instantly | Easy prompt chips on the empty chat state either fill the composer or send immediately. |
Use Reset response behavior to default to restore this section from platform defaults.
Pick a starting layout before fine-tuning advanced controls.
| Preset | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Comfortable | Recommended default—balanced reading width on most screens (dynamic width, ~86% of panel). |
| Focused | Narrower fixed column (~760px) for long-form reading. |
| Wide | More room for tables, code blocks, and artifacts (~94% dynamic width). |
| Full width | Uses the full available chat panel width. |
Presets set sizing mode and baseline width values. The chat column always clamps to the browser window so layouts stay usable on smaller tabs.
Beyond presets, you can adjust:
- Sizing mode — Dynamic (percentage of panel) or Fixed (pixel width, 640–1600px).
- Dynamic width — Slider from 60% to 100% when dynamic mode is active.
- Fixed width in pixels — Numeric width when fixed mode is active.
Prompt input bar has its own width mode (fixed or dynamic), width sliders/fields, and User Input Alignment (left, center, right).
Message alignment controls Conversation Alignment, User Prompt Alignment, and Agent Response Alignment independently.
Each subsection has its own reset button (Reset width to recommended, Reset prompt input to default, Reset alignment to default).
| Layer | Where it is set | Who it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Platform defaults | Control Panel → Settings → Default chat window preferences | New users and anyone who resets to defaults |
| Per-user overrides | GT Chat → Chat Window Preferences → Save preferences | Only your signed-in account |
When you click Restore all chat defaults, the form reloads values from the deployment's platform defaults (fetched from Control Panel configuration), not hard-coded factory values. Section-level reset buttons restore only that section from the same platform baseline.
Operators save platform defaults with Save default chat preferences on the Control Panel Settings page. Tenant users do not need Control Panel access to customize their own chat window.
