TimeSplitters Recomp v1.0
First public release of the TimeSplitters (PS2, 2000) static recompilation: the game translated to native code for Windows, Linux and the original Xbox. See the README for screenshots, controls and the full setup notes.
Requirements
You need your own dump of the TimeSplitters (USA) PlayStation 2 disc (SLUS-200.90): a .bin with its .cue (Redump style), a .bin on its own, or an .iso. No game data is included in any package; the program unpacks your dump on the first start.
What is in each package
TimeSplitters-Recomp-v1.0-windows.zip (Windows 10/11, 64-bit, OpenGL 3.3)
timesplitters.exewith the DLLs it needs (FFmpeg for the movies, Visual C++ runtime)timesplitters.ini(defaults: 1920x1080 window, widescreen, FXAA, 4x render scale; the game's Audio / Video Options menu changes it)Prepare Xbox Files.exeand thexboxfolder: makes the Xbox hard-disk folder from your disc dumpREADME-PC-SETUP.md,README-XBOX-SETUP.md
Unzip into a folder you can write to, put the disc dump next to timesplitters.exe, double-click it. The first start unpacks the disc into game-data (about 600 MB) and starts the game.
TimeSplitters-Recomp-v1.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz (x86-64 Linux)
timesplitters(built on Ubuntu 26.04: needs glibc 2.43, FFmpeg 8 (libavcodec.so.62etc.), OpenGL and X11 libraries; on other distributions build from source, seeREADME-LINUX.md)timesplitters.ini,README-LINUX.md,README-PC-SETUP.md
Unpack, put the disc dump in the folder, run ./timesplitters from it (GALLIUM_DRIVER=d3d12 ./timesplitters under WSL2).
TimeSplitters-Recomp-v1.0-xbox.zip (original Xbox, modded, with a hard disk)
default.xbe,TitleMeta.xbx,TitleImage.xbx,SaveImage.xbx: the Xbox program and its dashboard entryREADME-XBOX-SETUP.md
The Xbox program alone is not enough: the game files (about 1.1 GB) are made from your disc dump with Prepare Xbox Files.exe from the Windows package, which produces a TSRecomp folder holding this same program plus the disc image, game files and texture pack. Copy the whole folder to the Xbox (for example E:\TSRecomp) and start default.xbe. Saves go to E:\UDATA\54530001.
Known issues
- Xbox: about 28-30 frames per second in one-player story levels, about 11 in four-player fights. No fog, no GPU points or lines, textures stored compressed.
- Linux: tested on Ubuntu 26.04 under WSL2 (keyboard, saves, four-player match). Controllers on Linux are untested. The prebuilt binary is tied to that distribution's FFmpeg 8 and glibc.
- Sound: reverb, noise and pitch modulation are not modelled; held tones may click.
