touchbridge v0.4.0 - show mode, watchdog, 6x faster
The TouchDesigner MCP you can leave connected during a show.
New in 0.4.0
- Show mode: a performance lock enforced inside TD. Reads stay open, only the parameters you allowlist can change, and everything else is refused by the
.toxitself, for every client. Leaving show mode takes the operator typingEND SHOW, or runningtouchbridge-mcp --set-mode prep.touchbridge-mcp --set-mode show --allow "/project1/master:Opacity" - Show watchdog:
touchbridge-watch --output /project1/out1 [--reopen]reports TD crashed or frozen, real FPS vs cook rate, frame time over budget, dropped frames, and output black, solid or frozen. The numbers come from TD's own Perform CHOP. Agents get the same data frombridge_health. - About 6× faster: the tick went from 0.5 s to 0.1 s. Measured on TD 2025.32820: 86 ms median round trip (was about 500 ms), 0.1 ms per idle tick, and FPS unchanged.
Install
- Drag
TouchBridge.toxinto any TD project and save (or open the exampleTouchBridge.toe). pipx install "git+https://github.com/GaNotchVFX/touchbridge@v0.4.0"- MCP config:
{"mcpServers": {"touchbridge": {"command": "touchbridge-mcp"}}}
Also included: never-overwrite saves, safe mode on by default, and compact YAML results. 70 tools, and 195 tests that don't need TD. The honest comparison with other TD MCPs is in docs/COMPARISON.md, and every change is in the CHANGELOG.
touchbridge v0.3.0 - first public release
First public release of touchbridge: an MCP server for TouchDesigner built for live shows. It keeps working while TD is busy rendering, and it can't overwrite your project file.
Install
- Drag
TouchBridge.tox(attached) into your TD project and save. Nothing else needs to be installed on the TD side. pipx install "git+https://github.com/GaNotchVFX/touchbridge@v0.3.0"(orpip installthe attached wheel).- Add
{"mcpServers": {"touchbridge": {"command": "touchbridge-mcp"}}}to your MCP client config, then ask it to runbridge_status.
Highlights
- No server inside TD. Commands are files in a queue. TD pulls them on a timer at its own pace, and a heartbeat tells "busy" from "dead".
- Safe mode is on by default. Delete, script exec and in-place save are removed from the tool list, and batch and raw calls are gated the same way. Saves always go to a new numbered
.toe, snapshots copy files and never Save As, and exports refuse to write over a.toe/.tox. - Checks by measuring: cook-time ranking, FPS/throttle, host-side GPU/VRAM, pixel statistics ("is the output black?"), a full-subtree error sweep, and a real round-trip time.
- Compact YAML results. About 30% smaller than JSON with nothing lost, or 78–86% smaller with
detail="summary". - 67 tools (64 in safe mode), 3 resources and 3 prompts; 154 tests that don't need TD.
Verified live on TouchDesigner 2025.32820 (Windows). Each call waits for TD's next tick, so back-to-back calls take about 0.5 s each. It isn't meant for 60 Hz control.
How it compares to the other TD MCP servers: docs/COMPARISON.md. Full list of changes: CHANGELOG.md.
