Releases: Gadge64/WWFNoMercyRecomp

0.2.1: Steam Deck / Linux with mods (unofficial)

Choose a tag to compare

@Gadge64 Gadge64 released this 11 Oct 14:46

Unofficial fork of jessetbh's WWF No Mercy: Recompiled. All credit for the recompilation itself goes to jessetbh and the N64Recomp / N64ModernRuntime / RT64 authors.

The ROM is not included. You need your own WWF No Mercy (USA) ROM (the only supported version is USA Rev 1, SHA1 91CEE3D096F4A76644D8B35B9AEAD6448909ABD1).

New in 0.2.1

  • Steam Deck / Linux build with every 0.2.0 feature: 60/90/120 fps, the Resolution option, and mods and texture packs.
  • On Linux, the Framerate option now lists only the rates your display supports.
  • The Linux launcher is now called WWFNoMercy, so that's the name Steam shows.
  • Windows: same as 0.2.0 apart from the version number. No need to update if 0.2.0 works for you.

See 0.2.0 for the full feature list and the mods guide.

Steam Deck / Linux

  1. In Desktop Mode, extract NoMercyRecompiled-0.2.1-SteamDeck.zip somewhere permanent, e.g. ~/Games/.
  2. Copy your ROM next to WWFNoMercy and rename it nomercy.z64.
  3. Steam → Games → Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library → Browse, set the filter to All Files, pick WWFNoMercy.
  4. Switch to Gaming Mode and launch it from your Library. Always launch it from Steam, never from Desktop Mode. If the buttons are wrong: Controller Settings → Gamepad layout.

Mods go in the modpacks folder inside the game folder (see modpacks/HOW-TO-ADD-MODS.txt). Saves and settings are now kept in the game folder too. Coming from the 60Hz Edition 1 Deck build? Your save is in ~/.config/NoMercyRecompiled/; copy that folder's contents into the new game folder to keep it.

Windows

  1. Extract NoMercyRecompiled-0.2.1-Windows.zip.
  2. Run NoMercyRecompiled.exe and pick your ROM when asked.

Portable: portable.txt keeps settings and saves inside the folder (delete it to use AppData instead).

0.2.0: 90/120 fps, Resolution, Mods (unofficial)

@Gadge64 Gadge64 released this 08 Oct 22:33

New in 0.2.0

  • Framerate: 30 / 60 / 90 / 120 fps. Settings > Graphics > Framerate. 30 fps is the original game; 60, 90 and 120 use frame interpolation. 90 and 120 are listed when your display supports them; Fullscreen is recommended.
  • Resolution option. Settings > Graphics > Resolution sets the screen resolution used in fullscreen.
  • Mods and texture packs. Put each mod in its own folder under modpacks and pick it with the launcher's Mod option. Each mod has its own texture pack and its own save; the Base Game save is never touched.

Mods and texture packs

modpacks\<Mod Name>\textures\ PNG texture replacements (subfolders fine)
modpacks\<Mod Name>\save\ optional starting save: Project64 .fla, or a .bin from this game

To add a texture: dump it with Project64 (GLideN64 or Rice Video texture dumping), edit it at any size keeping the file name, put it in the mod's textures folder and restart the game. Jabo Direct3D8 packs work too.

Save gotcha: a mod's save is created from its save folder the first time you start that mod. If you start a mod before its save is in place, it gets a blank save and keeps it, so its custom wrestlers and their textures won't show. Fix: close the game, delete saves\<Mod Name>\, and start the mod again.

Full guide: modpacks\HOW-TO-ADD-MODS.txt in the zip, or the README.

Windows

  1. Extract NoMercyRecompiled-0.2.0-Windows.zip.
  2. Run NoMercyRecompiled.exe and pick your ROM when asked.

Portable: portable.txt keeps settings and saves inside the folder (delete it to use AppData instead).

This release is Windows only; the Steam Deck build is in 60Hz Edition 1.

60Hz Edition 1 (unofficial)

@Gadge64 Gadge64 released this 02 Oct 12:50

Unofficial fork of jessetbh's WWF No Mercy: Recompiled, adding 60Hz frame interpolation in matches and a Steam Deck / Linux build.

Windows

  1. Extract NoMercyRecompiled-60Hz-Windows.zip.
  2. Run NoMercyRecompiled.exe and pick your ROM when asked.

Portable: portable.txt keeps settings and saves inside the folder (delete it to use AppData instead).

Steam Deck

Setup, in Desktop Mode

  1. Extract NoMercyRecompiled-60Hz-SteamDeck.zip somewhere permanent, e.g. ~/Games/NoMercyRecompiled-linux.
  2. Copy your ROM into that folder, next to play.sh, and rename it to nomercy.z64.
  3. Open Steam → Games → Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library… → Browse. Set the file type filter to All Files, select play.sh, and click Add Selected Programs.
  4. Don't start the game from Desktop Mode: there Steam turns the Deck's controls into a keyboard and mouse, which clashes with the game.

Play, in Gaming Mode
5. Switch to Gaming Mode and launch play.sh from your Library (under Non-Steam). You can rename it and add artwork in its properties.
6. If buttons don't respond correctly: Steam button → Controller Settings → choose the Gamepad layout.

Controls use the Xbox layout (A = A, X = B, B = C-Down, Y = C-Up, L1/R1 = C-Left/C-Right, L2/R2 = L/R, L3 = Z, Menu = Start). Tip: bind a back grip to "Left Stick Click" for an easier Z.
