v1.3.2 - Let's Get Physical
No One Lives Forever VR v1.3.2 - Let's Get Physical
Fixes from player reports. Bring your own copy of the game; no game data is
included.
Install
Run No One Lives Forever VR Installer.exe below and press INSTALL (or
UPDATE). Your saves and settings are kept. By hand: download
No-One-Lives-Forever-VR-1.3.2-PCVR.zip, unzip it and run Setup.bat in
the No One Lives Forever VR folder.
Fixed
- A gadget's second mode (the lock pick's blade, needed in the gadget lab) had
no button on Quest controllers. Push the right stick up. It is "Next ammo
type" in VR Options > Controls. - Recentering moved your hands away from your body. They stay with you now.
- The use and gadget icons in the middle of the view are bigger and easier to
see.
v1.3.1 - Let's Get Physical
No One Lives Forever VR v1.3.1 - Let's Get Physical
Fixes from the first days of 1.3. Bring your own copy of the game; no game data
is included.
Install
- Download No One Lives Forever VR Installer.exe below and run it.
Windows may say it protected your PC: choose More info, then Run anyway. - Press INSTALL (or UPDATE). Your saves, settings and Game Manual
notes are kept.
Installing by hand: download No-One-Lives-Forever-VR-1.3.1-PCVR.zip,
unzip it anywhere, open the No One Lives Forever VR folder and double-click
Setup.bat.
New
- Mission objectives in VR. Hold the left stick click to see them, as the
Mission key does in the original. VR Options > Controls can move it.
Fixed
- Crouching for real put your view inside Cate's body. She crouches with you
now. - Pointing Setup or the installer at a 1.2 folder made a second copy of the
game on another drive. That folder is now updated where it is, and its old
launchers are replaced. - With two installs on one PC, Uninstall.bat in one of them removed both. It
now removes its own.
Known issues
As in 1.3: Quest 3 standalone is not available (play over Virtual Desktop or
Meta Quest Link), HD texture packs are not supported yet, and multiplayer is
untested.
v1.3 - Let's Get Physical
No One Lives Forever VR v1.3 - Let's Get Physical
Room-scale for No One Lives Forever in PC VR: walk around your room, crouch
for real, rack the slide with your other hand and read your ammo off Cate's
glove. Plus a one-click install, a menu pointer, the original manual as a book
in your hand, and fixes.
Bring your own copy of the game; no game data is included.
Install
- Download No One Lives Forever VR Installer.exe below and run it.
Windows may say it protected your PC: choose More info, then Run anyway. - Press INSTALL. It finds your NOLF, makes a
VRfolder inside the game's
own folder, adds a desktop shortcut and offers to add the game to your
Steam library. Your original game is never changed. - Connect your headset: start streaming in Virtual Desktop, or start SteamVR
or Meta Quest Link. With a SteamVR headset such as the Steam Frame, start
SteamVR first. - Start No One Lives Forever VR from the desktop shortcut or from Steam,
and put the headset on.
Installing by hand: download No-One-Lives-Forever-VR-1.3-PCVR.zip,
unzip it anywhere, open the No One Lives Forever VR folder and double-click
Setup.bat. If it cannot find your game, drag your game folder (or both GOTY
disc images) onto Setup.bat.
Updating from 1.2 or earlier: run the 1.3 installer. It finds your old
folder on your desktop, in Documents or Downloads, or in a games folder, and
brings your saves, settings and Game Manual notes over. If yours is somewhere
else, drag its game folder onto the 1.3 Setup.bat instead.
You need: No One Lives Forever, Game of the Year edition, patched to
1.004; a PC VR headset with an OpenXR runtime (developed on a Quest 3 over
Virtual Desktop, and played on a Steam Frame over SteamVR); Windows 10 or 11,
64-bit.
New in 1.3
- Room-scale. Walk around your room and Cate walks with you. Lean into a
wall and the view fades to black. - Crouch for real. Duck in real life to get under fences and through tight
spots. - Rack the slide with your other hand. It locks back when you run dry, and
you see the magazine in your hand when you reload. - Ammo on your gun hand's cuff, health and armor on the other, on round
displays where the glove ends. The ammo turns red when the clip is empty. - Cate's body follows you better: no more drifting sideways, it turns to
face where you face, and your chest is where it should be when you look
down. - The original game manual as a book you hold in your hand, with the box
art on its cover: Menu > Game Manual. - Point at the menus. Hold the grip on your gun hand and a dot shows where
you point; pull the trigger to pick. The sticks and buttons still work. - First start asks Physical or Buttons, so you get the play style you want
straight away. - One-click install. Setup now puts the VR game in a
VRfolder inside
your game's own folder, with a desktop shortcut, an optional Steam library
entry (it shows in SteamVR too), Uninstall.bat (your saves stay) and
Collect logs.bat for bug reports. The Game Or Die Installer installs it
in one click. - No headset? It plays on your monitor. If no headset connects within a
minute, the game starts on the monitor as the original instead of closing.
To play flat on purpose, useNo One Lives Forever (flat).cmdin theVR
folder. - Alt+Enter turns the desktop view into a window you can move and resize,
and back. The game remembers which you chose.
Fixed
- The headset view ended after an hour of play while the game carried on on
the monitor. Sessions now last as long as you play. - Every gun floated a few centimeters ahead of Cate's hand. It now sits in her
hand, right or left handed. - Collect logs now keeps your last 4 play sessions for a bug report.
Known issues
- Quest 3 standalone is not available: this port runs on the original Windows
engine. Quest 3 players play it over Virtual Desktop or Meta Quest Link. - HD texture packs are not supported yet: with the ESRGAN x4 pack in
game\custom, a level can take several minutes to load and the game can
close. Keep that folder empty for now. - In Mastermind's fifth scene, two mirrors facing each other show each other
as plain glass. - Multiplayer is untested and not a goal.
Built on
Monolith Productions' No One Lives Forever and its v1.003 source release;
haekb/nolf1-modernizer, the
modernized client this is a fork of; and the double-render technique proved by
DR-89/fear-vr. The client stays bound by
the NOLF source EULA: this is a free, non-commercial fan project with no
affiliation to the game's rights holders.
Antivirus: the files are not code-signed (a certificate costs money this
free project does not take), so a scanner may be wary of them simply because
they are new. Every program in the zip carries version information. The source
is public: the renderer, the OpenXR host and the tools are in this repository,
and the game client is the nolfvr branch of the nolf1-modernizer fork on this
same account.
v1.2 - Hands On
No One Lives Forever VR v1.2 - Hands On
The big one for No One Lives Forever in PC VR: Cate's own hands on your
controllers, and the game played with your body: holsters, reloading by hand,
punches that land, a wrist display and sunglasses you raise to your eyes. Plus
controls you can change, a Steam Frame layout of its own, omnidirectional
treadmill support, VR Options rebuilt, and fixes.
Bring your own copy of the game; no game data is included.
Install
- Download No-One-Lives-Forever-VR-1.2-PCVR.zip below and unzip it into a
folder of its own (anywhere exceptProgram Files). - Double-click Setup.bat. It finds your NOLF install and copies it into
the new folder, and your original is never changed. If it cannot find it,
it asks: drag your game folder (or both GOTY disc images) onto its window. - Connect your headset: start streaming in Virtual Desktop, or start SteamVR
or Meta Quest Link. With a SteamVR headset such as the Steam Frame, start
SteamVR first and then the game. - Double-click Play No One Lives Forever VR.bat and put the headset on.
Updating from 1.0 or 1.1: unzip 1.2 into its own folder and drag your old
folder's game folder onto the new Setup.bat. Your saves and settings come
with it.
You need: No One Lives Forever, Game of the Year edition, patched to
1.004; a PC VR headset with an OpenXR runtime (developed on a Quest 3 over
Virtual Desktop, and played on a Steam Frame over SteamVR); Windows 10 or 11,
64-bit.
New in 1.2
- Cate's hands. Her gloved hands sit on your controllers, the gun hand
curls round the gun, and the gloves match the outfit she is wearing.
On from the start; VR Options > Hands and Weapons > Cate's hands
turns them off. - Physical play. VR Options > Physical Play, one row turns it all on:
pistols from your hip, the long gun from over your shoulder, gadgets from
your chest and the coin and lipsticks from your belt; a reload by hand (the
button drops the clip, your other hand brings the next one from the pouch);
punches that land when you swing; two hands on rifles and shotguns; the coin
and lipsticks thrown by hand;
health, armor and ammo on your wrist; and the sunglasses go on when you
raise them to your eyes. Every button way
still works. - Change any button. VR Options > Controls puts each action (use,
reload, jump, duck, flashlight, weapon wheel, holster, quick save, previous
and next weapon, next ammo type) on the button you choose. The Quest and the
Steam Frame keep a map each, and a button only ever does one job. Pushing
the right stick up or down counts as a button, so jump and duck can go
there, as in many VR games. - The Steam Frame has its own layout. A, B, X and Y work like a gamepad
(jump, duck, reload, use), the D-pad changes weapons, holsters and quick
saves, and the right shoulder switches ammo type. - Omnidirectional treadmills. VR Options > Turning and Moving > Walk
direction: Head makes forward follow the way you face, and Analog
walking turns how far the stick is pushed into your speed. On a treadmill
your pace sets your speed, and turning your body turns you in the game. Your
body turns with you when you look down. - Options, rebuilt. In the headset Options is short: VR Options first,
then Game, Performance and Sound, with the flat screen, keyboard and
joystick pages behind Show advanced options. VR Options is split into
short pages: Turning and Moving, Your Body, Hands and Weapons, Physical
Play, Screen and Aim, and Controls. - Looking down shows Cate's dress, legs and boots, not the inside of her
collar. - Controller rumble can be turned off (Hands and Weapons).
Fixed
- The HQ waterfall stuttered and crawled on a PC that had been switched on
for a few days. It now flows smoothly however long the PC has been on. - Double vision with Virtual Desktop's field of view widened.
- Pushing the stick sideways in a menu could move the selection up or down.
- The small reticle in the middle of your view now follows where you look.
It used to test a line straight ahead at eye height, so things low on a
table never lit it up. With no gun out, Use takes whatever the reticle is
on, instead of an invisible line from your hand; with a gun out, the aim
dot still decides. - X did not close a picked-up document (only Y did). X, A and the trigger
close it now. - In VR, Options > Display could change the game's screen size and leave the
headset picture tiny with no way back; those rows are gone in VR.
Known issues
- With Virtual Desktop's field of view widened, the picture renders narrower
than the headset asks for, so it is softer at the sides. - HD texture packs are not supported yet: with the ESRGAN x4 pack in
game\custom, a level can take several minutes to load and the game can
close. Keep that folder empty for now. - Treadmill support has been tested by walking and turning on the spot, not
yet on a treadmill. Feedback from treadmill owners is very welcome. - In Mastermind's fifth scene, two mirrors facing each other show each other
as plain glass. - Multiplayer is untested and not a goal.

v1.1 - Bits & Bobs
No One Lives Forever VR v1.1 - Bits & Bobs
An update to No One Lives Forever in PC VR: your own body, mirrors that reflect, two hands on
a pistol, lamp-lit characters, a sharper picture and a steady desktop view.
Bring your own copy of the game; no game data is included.
Install
- Download No-One-Lives-Forever-VR-1.1-PCVR.zip below and unzip it into a
folder of its own (anywhere exceptProgram Files). - Double-click Setup.bat. It finds your NOLF install and copies it into
the new folder, and your original is never changed. If it cannot find it,
drag your game folder (or both GOTY disc images) onto Setup.bat. - Connect your headset: start streaming in Virtual Desktop, or start SteamVR
or Meta Quest Link. With a SteamVR headset such as the Steam Frame, start
SteamVR first and then the game. - Double-click Play No One Lives Forever VR.bat and put the headset on.
Updating from 1.0: unzip 1.1 into its own folder and drag your 1.0
folder's game folder onto the new Setup.bat. Your saves and settings come
with it. The launcher is now called Play No One Lives Forever VR.bat.
You need: No One Lives Forever, Game of the Year edition, patched to
1.004; a PC VR headset with an OpenXR runtime (developed on a Quest 3 over
Virtual Desktop, and played on a Steam Frame over SteamVR); Windows 10 or 11,
64-bit.
New in 1.1
- Your own body. Look down and Cate is there, and her legs walk as you move.
- Mirrors work. The levels' mirrors reflect the room around you, the way
the original game drew them: bathrooms, bars, a puddle on the floor. You see
Cate in them, holding the gun you are holding, her arms following your hands.
Options > VR > Show body and See yourself in mirrors turn either off. - A sharper picture. The world renders at your headset's own resolution.
Options > VR > Resolution % trades sharpness for speed on an older
graphics card. - Two hands on a pistol. With a pistol out, bring your other hand to it and
hold the grip: a second hand closes on the pistol. - Lamp-lit characters. People and objects are lit from the side the lamps
around them are on. - A metal sheen on the guns, from the level's own reflection map, as the
original renderer drew it. - A steady desktop view for streaming and recording: smoothed head motion
and a level horizon (Options > VR > Steady desktop view). - Easier to use things: when the green reticle shows, X uses what it marks,
even with your hand a little off it. - Scopes: the shot leaves from the scope, so anything you can see in it you
can hit, and the red dot sits in the middle of the lens. - Hit rumble on the side the shot came from.
- SteamVR headsets such as the Steam Frame: with SteamVR running, the game
uses it by itself.
Known issues
- In cutscenes, characters sometimes slide into place just after a camera cut:
the original scenes position them just outside the flat camera's narrower
view. - Two mirrors facing each other show each other as plain glass.
- The game has not yet been played end to end in VR; individual missions have.
- The controls are mapped for Meta Quest (Touch) controllers. SteamVR maps them
onto the Steam Frame's controllers by itself; other controllers under SteamVR
may need mapping in SteamVR's Controller Bindings. - Multiplayer is untested and not a goal.

controls through OpenXR. Bring your own copy of the game; no game data is
included.
Install
- Download No-One-Lives-Forever-VR-1.0.zip below and unzip it into a folder of its own
(anywhere exceptProgram Files). - Double-click Setup.bat. It finds your NOLF install and copies it into
the new folder - your original is never changed. If it cannot find it, drag
your game folder (or both GOTY disc images) onto Setup.bat. - Connect your headset: start streaming in Virtual Desktop, or start SteamVR
or Meta Quest Link. - Double-click Play NOLF VR.bat and put the headset on.
You need: No One Lives Forever, Game of the Year edition, patched to
1.004; a PC VR headset with an OpenXR runtime (developed on a Quest 3 over
Virtual Desktop); Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
Updating later: unzip the new version into its own folder and drag your old
version's game folder onto the new Setup.bat. Your saves and settings come
with it.
What you get
- The whole game in stereo at 90 fps, with head tracking.
- Motion controls: aim and fire with your hand, scopes you look through, a
weapon wheel, controller rumble, and handlebar or stick steering on the
motorcycle and the snowmobile. - The HUD in both eyes; menus, loading screens and the pause menu as panels in
front of you. - The Leftorium: left-handed play from Options > VR - the gun in your left
hand (drawn left-handed), the flashlight in your right. - Photo mode: pause, click the left stick, and the menu gets out of the way
so you can take your own screenshots of the frozen world. - A desktop view of the game for streaming or recording, pause menu included.
- Alt-tab freely: the game keeps running in the headset.
- If something goes wrong, Collect report.bat zips the logs onto your
Desktop for a bug report.
The controls are in the README inside the zip. Options > VR has turning,
steering, gun size and aim-dot settings.
Known issues
- In cutscenes, characters sometimes slide into place just after a camera cut:
the original scenes position them just outside the flat camera's narrower
view. - The game has not yet been played end to end in VR; individual missions have.
- Only Virtual Desktop has been tested. SteamVR and Meta Quest Link should
work. The controls are mapped for Meta Quest (Touch) controllers; other
controllers under SteamVR need mapping in SteamVR's Controller Bindings. - Multiplayer is untested and not a goal.
