BF2-VR 1.1.0 — r134, physical gear and DZB2 support
BF2-VR 1.1.0 — accepted r134 gameplay
This release brings the retained improvements since public v1.0.0/r45 into one installer, including DZB2 compatibility. The maintainer tested and accepted the public-package candidate. The final package adds +restart to generated launch shortcuts to skip the intro movies; gameplay code remains the accepted r134 build.
Installer revision 2: corrected setup choices and public descriptions; the r134 gameplay DLL is unchanged. Installer source for this revision.
Download and install
-
Download BF2-VR-Setup.exe, or BF2-VR-v1.1.0.zip for the same installer plus the launcher and documentation. You do not need both.
-
Start with a legitimate BF2 1.5 installation that can load and play a map flat-screen. Close BF2 and the VR settings application before installation.
-
Run Setup and choose the game folder. Existing rendering preferences can be kept, or choose headset-requested resolution or game resolution.
-
Launch the generated Battlefield 2 VR shortcut. Its normal arguments end in
+restart. -
DZB2: install the original mod separately and use the included Launch DZB2 VR.cmd. Use Medium Lighting for the tested DZB2 VR configuration.
-
The BF2 1.50 Alt-Tab hotfix is optional and only needed for an older unsupported renderer, including the DVD installation encountered during testing. Compatible installations do not need it. Hotfix download.
Major additions
-
Head-directed movement and sprint, roomscale movement, snap turning, and improved smooth turning.
-
Physical body inventory, visible holstered gear, saved slot adjustments, hold/toggle/glued carry modes, and a third gadget slot behind the head when the kit provides it.
-
Expanded manual reload support: 189 stock/DZB2 profiles, including SMGs, assault rifles, LMGs, snipers, shotguns, pistols and XM25. Magazine eject, magwell guidance and weapon-specific interactions are included.
-
Physical active throws for supported grenades and deployables, optional grenade cooking, physical knife attacks, two-paddle defibs and assisted reviving.
-
Shoulder radio with menu pointer; optional on-foot and vehicle helmet death views; arms-out airborne wingsuit option.
-
Expanded DZB2 optics, red dots, launcher targeting/guidance, laptop gadgets, vehicle controls, and the hold-Y seat-selection wheel.
-
Automatic OpenXR-recommended per-eye rendering, game-resolution alternative, retained rendering optimizations, and improved installer/update handling.
Fixes since the first release
This update includes fixes as well as new features: recoil-driven HUD drift, faint vehicle HUDs, smooth-turn stepping and duplicated crosshairs, missing sight dots and launcher reticles, virtual-stock-off behavior, partial reloads and same-mag reinsertion, gadget wrist poses, inactive physical throws, laptop arms after deployment, death/respawn handling, passenger weapon handling, and menu pointer clicks leaving the game window.
The detailed fix list is here: Fixes since v1.0.0.

Verification and known limits
The final installer passed isolated installation, update/rollback, shortcut, local audio reconstruction and loader checks. Game audio is reconstructed from the user's own installed files; the download does not include game executables or game audio.
Performance depends on the machine, runtime resolution, AA, map and mod. Maximum settings and a fixed frame rate are not guaranteed. DZB2 High Lighting and AC-130/remote-camera freezes remain reported limitations. Steam gameplay and additional GPUs/headsets still need public testing. Vehicle passenger poses can be imperfect, and wreck models disappear according to the game's normal lifetime.
SHA-256 checksums are attached as SHA256SUMS.txt. The previous release and the separate resolution-reference area remain available. This release excludes reverted performance experiments.
BF2-VR 1.0.0 — r45 OpenXR public release
The first public package of the creator-confirmed r45 OpenXR gameplay baseline.
Start here
Patch Battlefield 2 to 1.5 and successfully play a flat-screen match first. Then download BF2-VR-Setup.exe, run it, select your game folder and numbered BF2 profile, and install. Connect the headset and start the Battlefield 2 VR shortcut.
Complete installation instructions · All controller buttons · Supported manual reloads
The ZIP contains the same installer plus offline guides and notices. You only need one download. GitHub's automatic source-code archives are for development.

Tap both stick clicks to recenter; hold both to open VR settings. Left menu button tap opens the kit screen; hold opens pause.
SteamVR is not required with a compatible 32-bit OpenXR runtime such as VDXR. No game executable or game media is distributed: Setup builds a separate VR launcher from your own executable and creates reload sound cues from your installed game files. The original BF2.exe is retained.
Verification and current limits
Isolated install, rollback, profile/shortcut and uninstall checks passed. All 116 reconstructed reload cues match the r45 baseline exactly, and a native x86 probe loaded RFX at process startup and installed all three expected hooks. Gameplay code matches r45. See verification details.
A full BF2 match under the new launcher filename has not yet been verified. The established headset setup is Quest 3 / Touch-style controllers / VDXR. Other installations need compatibility feedback. AK support-arm poses still need refinement. Frame rate depends on the system, scene, graphics settings and runtime; no fixed FPS is promised.
Planned next work
LMG manual reloads; physical weapon/gadget slots; physical crouch/prone; infantry launcher scopes; physical gadget actions; throwing medkits, ammo boxes and grenades; physical defibrillator interactions.
Credits and third-party licensing are included in the repository and offline guide.
