Logos — Release Notes

The biggest Logos update yet

This release is a major evolution of Logos from a semester tracker into a full academic workspace. Nearly every major area of the app has been redesigned or expanded: the Dashboard, Academics, Degree Plan, Grades, Assignments, Calendar, Settings, onboarding, data safety, cloud sync, themes, search, accessibility, performance, and release reliability.

A completely redesigned Logos experience

Reworked the overall desktop interface into a cleaner, more consistent student workspace.
Simplified the login experience and removed unnecessary authentication screens and dead-end flows.
Modernized cards, forms, dialogs, navigation, lists, buttons, empty states, and controls throughout the app.
Reorganized related academic tools so users no longer have to think in terms of separate database-management pages.
Added a smoother animated background and later optimized it to avoid unnecessary rendering work.
Improved layout behavior, readability, spacing, borders, tab states, arrows, selected states, and high-DPI behavior across the application.
Added a unified styling system so dynamically-created widgets follow the same visual language as the rest of Logos.

Dashboard — now a real student command center

The Dashboard has been substantially rebuilt around what a student actually needs to know today.

Daily workflow

Added a Today view for assignments due today and overdue work.
Added clear All Clear / To Handle status messaging.
Added a This Week section for upcoming deadlines over the next seven days.
Added Current Courses with direct actions for adding course work.
Added a Month at a Glance calendar.
Added Quick Add for assignments, courses, and semesters.
Added a more useful Daily Briefing and academic pulse rather than only showing static statistics.

Academic intelligence

Added Academic Outlook with:
- Degree completion progress.
- Current course and credit load.
- Next planned semester and planned credits.
- Planner health and planning issue status.
- Remaining unplanned credits.
- Graduation outlook when enough planned credits exist to estimate it.
Improved dashboard summaries and readability so important academic information is visible without opening several different pages.

Search moved where it belongs

Added beginner-friendly search for courses, assignments, and semesters.
Search was initially introduced as its own page, then redesigned into a compact Find something section directly on the Dashboard.
Search uses visible Search, Clear, and Open actions — no hidden command palette or required keyboard shortcuts.
Results can open the relevant academic area directly.
Fixed a runtime crash in the search workflow and hardened user loading/error handling.

Academics — rebuilt around student work

The Academics area has been reworked several times and now prioritizes daily student use instead of presenting Semesters, Courses, and Assignments as equally important management screens.

Navigation now prioritizes:
1. My Courses
2. Assignments
3. Semesters
Opening Academics now goes directly to My Courses when a current semester exists.
If no current semester is configured, Logos intelligently opens Semesters first so setup can be corrected.
Added a live academic context summary with:
- Current semester.
- Active course count.
- Active credit load.
- Open assignment count.
Course rows now show Assignments (N) and can jump directly to that course's work without making the student reselect the semester and course.
Rewrote Academics guidance and empty states in plain student-facing language.

Semesters

Redesigned semester management and history.
Added semester search and sorting.
Added clearer Current / Planned / Completed state handling.
Added semester overview counts and better empty/search/filter states.
Prevented completed semesters from being used accidentally as destinations for new planned courses.
Cleaned up accidental borders and inconsistent row/title styling.

Courses

Improved course search, filters, status handling, and sorting.
Better differentiation between planned, in-progress, completed, and withdrawn courses.
Improved repeat-attempt information and grade/projection access.
Added safer status handling and clearer course actions.

Assignments — planning, priority, and focus tools

Assignments are no longer just a name, weight, and due date.

Added assignment/work type support, including exams.
Added priority levels.
Added assignment progress percentage.
Added estimated work time.
Added workload metrics such as:
- Estimated work remaining.
- High-priority work.
- Next deadline.
Added smarter filters including:
- Open work.
- Due within seven days.
- Overdue work.
- Completed work.
Added visible progress controls directly from assignment rows.
Added a Focus Session workflow with a distraction-free 25-minute study timer.
Focus sessions can show remaining estimated work and prompt the student to update progress afterward.
Assignment metadata now persists through the database and cloud/export workflows.

Calendar — faster deadline entry and richer academic context

Improved calendar styling and academic integration.
Added the ability to create a deadline directly from a selected calendar date.
Calendar entries can show assignment progress and estimated workload information.
Improved deadline navigation and assignment opening.
Added clearer empty states when there are no upcoming deadlines.
Calendar remains tied to real course/assignment data rather than duplicating academic records.

Grades — forecasting instead of just recording results

The Grades area has been redesigned into a much more useful academic-performance workspace.

Redesigned GPA/CGPA presentation and semester performance views.
Improved GPA trajectory graph and chronological semester ordering.
Added clearer course performance and projection controls.
Added quick final-grade projection without requiring the student to build a complete assignment list first.
Kept detailed assignment-based grade projection for students who do track individual coursework.
Added target-grade support and clearer indicators when a target is at risk or already secured.
Improved projection coverage and explanation of how much of a course grade is currently represented.

Semester Scenario

Added a Semester Scenario tool.
Students can enter hypothetical final course results and preview:
- Scenario term GPA.
- Scenario CGPA.
- Expected CGPA change.
Scenario calculations do not modify saved grades.

CGPA Goal Planner

Added a CGPA Goal Planner.
Enter a target CGPA and degree credit target.
Logos estimates the average performance required over the remaining credits.
Provides reachability guidance rather than simply showing the current CGPA.

Degree Plan — major academic planning expansion

Degree Plan has evolved from a simple academic map into a curriculum-aware planning system.

Three focused views

Degree Plan now separates planning into:

Degree Map — overall degree progress and requirement tracking.
Semester Planner — future semester planning and course placement.
Curriculum — official curriculum browsing and course selection.

The selected-tab behavior and visual states were also polished so active modes no longer visually squash when clicked.

Academic Map and degree intelligence

Added a clearer academic map of degree progress.
Shows program information, credits, GPA information, requirement groups, and tracked academic progress.
Retained CAPP Degree Evaluation imports and saved Degree Plan uploads.

Curriculum browser

Added catalog-year and major-aware curriculum browsing.
Added curriculum course search and explicit course selection.
Distinguishes required courses from curriculum choices/electives.
Shows credits and prerequisite information.
Does not silently auto-select elective choices for the student.

Semester Planner

Added creation of future planned semesters.
Courses can be added and removed from planned semesters.
Added planning checks for prerequisites, corequisites, restrictions, and approval conditions.
Added projected credits and degree-target progress.
Improved differentiation between completed, current, planned, withdrawn, and otherwise tracked courses.
Added semester-level planner health summaries.
Added advisory heavy-load warnings; the default planning warning threshold is 18 credits.
Withdrawn courses no longer incorrectly satisfy prerequisites or corequisites.

Live LAU curriculum intelligence

One of the largest changes in this release is the move from static/manual curriculum data toward live Lebanese American University catalog support.

Logos can read the public LAU Academic Catalog.
Catalog year drives the available program/major list.
Logos can build the selected major's curriculum from the catalog rather than relying only on a hardcoded package.
Course catalog information is used to derive prerequisite rules.
Added support for prerequisite alternatives and corequisites.
Added cached curriculum fallback so previously-loaded curriculum data can still be used if the LAU catalog is temporarily unavailable.
Improved parser status/guidance when live curriculum information cannot be loaded.
Fixed duplicate major entries in catalog parsing.

LAU academic profile

First-time academic setup now understands more of the student's actual LAU path:

Catalog / academic year.
Major.
Current program year.
Current term: Fall, Spring, or Summer.
LAU entry level:
- Sophomore admission.
- Freshman Science.
- Freshman Arts.
Entry level is used to account for freshman foundation/prerequisite paths.

Recommended curriculum chronology

Recommended plans preserve academic chronology in the order Fall → Spring → Summer.
Curriculum is grouped by recommended year and term.
Elective/choice placeholders are displayed in the recommended semester instead of being collected into a generic bucket.
Supports normalized choice slots such as technical electives, SOE signature courses, and LAS electives.
Valid elective choices appear under their intended slot without being preselected.
Duplicate appearances of the same course remain synchronized so selecting one instance does not create duplicate credit/course counts.
Foundation courses, other required courses, and additional curriculum choices are surfaced more clearly.

Build Remaining Plan — planning logic made understandable

The original Build recommended plan workflow was reworked after real use exposed confusing behavior.

It is now Build remaining plan and works from the student's actual tracked state first.

Removed the old current-curriculum-year hard cutoff that could incorrectly hide required courses from earlier years.
Logos now compares the curriculum against courses that are actually:
- Completed.
- Current.
- Already planned.
Missing required courses remain eligible even when their recommended curriculum year is behind the student's current year.
Before changing the plan, Logos shows what it found and what will be handled.
The student only chooses the semester/year after which future planning should begin.
Remaining required curriculum semester groups are placed into future semesters in curriculum order.
Recommended Fall/Spring/Summer term names are preserved when possible.
Completed destination semesters are never overwritten.
If a destination is unavailable, planning moves forward to the next appropriate matching term.
Electives remain deliberately manual so Logos does not make academic choices on behalf of the student.
Withdrawn required courses and curriculum requirements without a reliable recommended term are surfaced explicitly instead of silently disappearing.

First-run onboarding and academic setup

New users now get a guided setup instead of being dropped into an empty application.

Added a three-stage onboarding flow:
1. Welcome.
2. Academic Profile.
3. Starting Point.
Students can choose their catalog, major, LAU entry level, program year, current term, and calendar year.
Setup can create the current semester, import existing data, or continue directly into guided Degree Plan setup.
Onboarding follows the selected Logos theme.
Fixed first-setup user-ID handoff so setup data is attached to the correct user.

Existing and transfer coursework

Students can mark prior or transfer courses as already satisfied.
These courses count toward completed credits and prerequisite satisfaction.
Logos does not invent fake grades for transfer/satisfied coursework, so CGPA remains academically meaningful.

Setup & Import Center

A dedicated import workflow was added for students who already have academic history.

Added a Setup & Import Center.
Supports CAPP Degree Evaluation import from common exported formats/text.
Added preview-before-import behavior.
Added course/transcript CSV import with common header detection.
Supports common delimiter formats such as CSV, TSV, and semicolon-separated files.
Added duplicate protection.
Added semester-aware syncing from imported academic history.
Imports can create missing semesters and populate completed/current coursework where appropriate.
Every significant import creates a safety backup first.
Failed imports roll back instead of leaving partially-imported academic data.
Added Undo Last Import using the pre-import snapshot.
Import results explain what was created, updated, or skipped.

Cloud accounts and automatic sync

Cloud support is now a first-class part of Logos rather than a manual backup-only workflow.

Added Supabase-backed online account integration.
Existing local users can migrate into an online Logos account.
Added email confirmation handling and resend flows.
Added password recovery/reset with Logos deep-link handling.
Cloud session/refresh credentials are stored using Windows Credential Manager instead of leaving sensitive session data in ordinary settings storage.
Legacy stored sessions can migrate into the safer credential store.

Cloud saves

Added cloud academic-data backups.
On first cloud connection, users can choose whether to keep/upload local data or import the cloud save.
Added automatic cloud sync.
Added manual Sync now controls.
Added local-vs-cloud conflict detection.
If both the device and cloud changed, Logos does not silently overwrite either version.
Users can explicitly choose which copy should win when resolving a conflict.
Successful cloud uploads are retained as cloud versions rather than immediately discarding the previous state.
Added cloud version history and restore support.
Restoring a cloud version creates a local safety snapshot first.

Visible sync state

Cloud state is now visible in the main interface, with beginner-readable statuses such as:

Synced.
Saved locally.
Waiting.
Auto sync off.
Sign in needed.
Needs attention.

Clicking the cloud status takes the user directly to Data & Sync settings.

Backup, restore, undo, and data safety

Logos now has several layers of protection against both user mistakes and technical failures.

Automatic recovery snapshots

Added automatic SQLite safety snapshots before protected/destructive academic actions, including deleting semesters, courses, assignments, Degree Plan uploads, major planning operations, and imports.
If Logos cannot create the required safety snapshot, the protected destructive action is stopped rather than pretending it can be undone.
Added Undo Last Change in Settings.
Added View Safety Backups.
Automatic recovery history is bounded so it does not grow forever.

Manual backup/restore improvements

Full SQLite backups remain supported.
New backups are integrity-checked immediately.
Invalid/corrupt backup output is rejected rather than reported as successful.
Restore sources are validated before use.
Logos creates a safety backup before replacing the current database during restore.
The last-used backup folder is remembered.
Missing .db extensions are handled automatically.
Portable JSON export/import remains available for moving academic data between installations.

Five complete color themes

Logos is no longer locked to one dark-blue appearance.

Added five full themes:

Midnight Blue
Nebula Violet
Emerald Circuit
Graphite
Frost Light

Theme work includes:

Runtime retheming of existing and newly-created widgets.
Theme-aware cards, dialogs, inputs, navigation, buttons, Dashboard gauges, GPA charts, and animated backgrounds.
Theme preference stored between sessions.
Color-theme selector and preview chips in Settings.
Dedicated light-theme contrast handling.
Additional Frost Light readability improvements.
Fixed theme-related Danger Zone/Delete Account contrast problems.
Qt 6.11 compatibility fixes for the theme/color implementation.

Settings — rebuilt as a control center

Settings has been reorganized into a much more complete control center.

Cleaner profile/account management.
Password/security controls.
Academic degree credit target.
Theme selection.
Deadline-reminder preferences.
Update preferences and release channel.
Data backup/restore.
Portable import/export.
Setup & Import Center access.
Undo and safety backup access.
Automatic cloud sync controls and state.
Cloud version history and sync resolution tools.
Removed internal account information that did not need to be exposed to normal users.
Reworked checkbox rendering and other small control inconsistencies for a cleaner native-looking settings UI.

Deadline and academic notifications

Added configurable deadline reminders.
Reminder windows include common options such as 1, 2, 3, or 7 days.
Users can choose whether overdue work should be included.
Added warnings for grade targets that need attention.
Added system-tray deadline notifications.
Exams and high-priority work can receive stronger urgency weighting.
Background reminder checks were later tuned to reduce unnecessary resource use.

Accessibility and display scaling

Added visible keyboard-focus states across the application.
Added accessible names/descriptions for important and icon-only controls.
Added Reduce visual motion.
- Stops the animated background.
- Skips nonessential fade effects.
Improved Frost Light text contrast.
Improved fractional Windows scaling behavior at common settings such as 125%, 150%, and 175%.
Made login/account forms safer on short displays and high scaling by allowing vertical scrolling instead of clipping fields.
Hardened dynamic card/row styling so child labels do not accidentally inherit input-like borders.
Cleaned up accidental borders and focus-state inconsistencies across Semesters, Settings, and Degree Plan.

Performance and reliability — Batch 7 hardening

A major hardening pass was completed after the feature work to keep Logos smooth as academic data grows.

Database reliability

Enabled SQLite WAL mode for better responsiveness and safer concurrent read/write behavior.
Tuned SQLite synchronization and automatic WAL checkpoint behavior.
Added pre-migration safety snapshots before schema changes.
Migration backups are validated and retained when something fails.
Strengthened database restore/integrity handling.
Improved legacy database-path migration behavior.

UI performance

Removed unnecessary continuously-running Dashboard animations.
Academic gauges update directly instead of constantly animating toward their value.
Batched UI refreshes to reduce repeated repaint/layout work.
Optimized the animated background and removed expensive trail/repaint behavior.
Increased icon/pixmap caching.
Reduced repeated AppStyle/graphics-effect setup when widgets are shown again.
Improved scrolling and navigation smoothness in denser academic pages.

Background work

Reduced automatic cloud-sync polling frequency and made timers less intrusive.
Prevented re-entrant automatic sync attempts.
Tuned reminder/background maintenance intervals.
Delayed noncritical maintenance after startup so launching Logos feels faster.
Improved timer cleanup and shutdown behavior.

Better empty, error, and offline states

Many previously blank or generic states now explain what happened and what the student can do next.

Dashboard explains what to set up when academic data is missing.
Degree Plan distinguishes guided curriculum setup from CAPP import.
Calendar explains how to add due dates when no deadlines exist.
Semester views distinguish between no data and no search/filter matches.
Search distinguishes ready, empty query, signed-out, load-error, no-result, and successful-result states.
Backup/recovery failures explicitly explain that current data was preserved.
Cloud/offline states allow local academic work to continue without pretending sync succeeded.

About Logos, diagnostics, QA, and release tooling

This update also includes work intended to make Logos safer to distribute and support.
